Well, I’d say that seventh grade went pretty good. It wasn’t the most fantastically majestic and amazing year ever, but it wasn’t the worst either. I was successful academically; I got all A’s. My sport season was not the best, though. I learned not to tell people that you don’t remember them from sixth grade. They get really surprised. In the eighth grade, I would like to help make the yearbook. I would advise next year’s seventh graders that school will only get harder, so you have to figure it all out now.

The largest, longest, and most tedious project all Year

Article posted May 9, 2013 at 01:45 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 73

World History pretty much completely decided everything that we have today. It lets us have a constitution, and lets China have a great wall. It is all that our ancestors did and said, so it is a part of all of us. It also helps us learn from our mistakes and grow from our accomplishments. My guiding question was, ‘What technologies helped in the creation of Machu Picchu, and what was Machu Picchu used for?’ Most of the things I said were indirectly helping Machu Picchu be created. Things like the Incas’ road systems and rope bridges helped them navigate through the mountains. They had a code, called Khipus, which had several different cords attached to a main cord. The length and color of each rope, as well as the type and position of each knot on the cords mean something different. IT was a complex code that could send messages that didn’t have to be oral.
I learned lots of different things from other seventh graders. I learned about battles I had never even heard about, and a lot about gladiators and weapons and armor. There was also some cool food displays. There was a display that featured pita bread and humus, a display that featured 1500’s Italian pasta, and a display that featured pot stickers and fried rice. There were also some others about food that didn’t have any food. I also noticed a couple about music and ancient clothing. A cool display I saw was an aqueduct that had water in it that kept flowing through it. I learned about Otzi the Ice man too. He died when he was forty and had lots of tattoos. The world history fair was taxing if you wanted a good grade, but it also taught you how to manage your time.

Hey You! World Leader!

Article posted April 30, 2013 at 01:36 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 26

Well, I think Nelson Mandella must have been a really inspiring guy for all those people who didn’t have rights. If I could send this postcard, I would send it to a world leader that would do something to help the environment. I would want to get the message that we only have one earth, so we have to preserve it.

Sean and other stuff like Knickers

Personally, I think this year’s all school read is better than last year’s. I think it would hit home for more kids and I like that it uses real world problems. I like Knicker a lot. I think something will happen with him though. Right now he is just kind of a stand-by character, so I think something big will happen involving him. I also like that Sean has regular teenager problems—maybe to a more extreme extent—but it makes the story more relatable.

Costa Rica!

Article posted April 18, 2013 at 01:02 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 100

I think International Towne was a great experience. It was a little hectic, but it gave you a hint of what the real world is like. I was the Finance Minister in Costa Rica. It wasn’t as math related as they made it sound. You had to do bills and stuff, but they gave you a calculator. You really didn’t have to be all that good at math to succeed as a Finance Minister. International Towne was not only a learning experience, but fun, too.

Chicken... ..

Article posted April 9, 2013 at 02:19 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 18

The chicken wing lab was… decent. It was icky, but interesting in a messed up kind of way. The hardest part of the lab was getting the skin off of the chicken wing. Thinking back on it is worse than actually doing it. Even though it was pretty gross, I learned about how muscles are in an almost mutual relationship with one another; one pulls while the other one relaxes, and vise versa.

International Towne

Article posted April 3, 2013 at 03:33 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 37

I think that International Towne is going to be really fun. I really want to be in Ukraine. This is mainly because I am very food motivated. I will probably end up being a Finance Minister. I am alright with that, too. Another job I wouldn’t mind is the Food Preparer in Ukraine, or the carpenter in Finland. I guess being the Customs Agent wouldn’t be that bad. Actually, now that I think about it, I don’t think I would like being the Customs Agent that much. But, I’d be happy doing anything in Ukraine. I qualify for these jobs because, well, I guess I like baking, I like building stuff, and I’m good at math. I bake all the time in fact. I’ve been in the industrial manufacturing class, so I know some stuff about building wood stuff. Also, Mr. Howard says he needs like sixteen finance ministers and they have to be good at math. He will probably pick them out of his higher math classes and I am in Algebra 1B. I am excited to experience what the real world would be like to an extent.

Ernest Green

I think that the Ernest Green movie was really good. I probably would not want to be expelled, but I would fight back and then be expelled. Things have changed and they also have not. They definitely are not anywhere close to that bad, but they also aren’t perfect. We don’t have a half black half white school. For the most part, we are white. But other places in Colorado have mostly black schools. You are free to go to any school you want, but it isn’t completely integrated. I think it is good for us to learn about our history so we don’t repeat the bad parts and learn from the good parts.

School in the Woods

Article posted February 27, 2013 at 01:30 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 83

I want to tell you about the most awesome school in the universe. This school is called School in the Woods. It is a District 20 school that is located I Black Forest. It doesn’t even seem like school when your there! The sad part is that it is only for fourth grade. Anyway, you mainly just play outside all day. Well, you do the whole regular school curriculum, plus a whole bunch about the environment, so you have a lot of homework, but it is totally worth it. You learn to do archery, and at recess, you just run into the woods and build forts! You also go to the pond to learn about pond life. If you have any younger siblings, (in 3rd grade or younger) I definitely recommend tis school for fourth grade.
