Mandella Quote

At International Towne, the leader talked about Nelson Mandella and gave us a postcard with one of his quotes. " Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." I think that he was trying to say that the only way you can change the world is by learning how to then actually doing it. Even if you have a lot of money that can change the world you need to know how to, that is you need an education. I sent this postcard to our principle, Mr. Sterk, asking him to change the time we get to school because we need more sleep and getting up at 6:30 isn't necessarily a lot of sleep if kids do activities till 9:00 at night. I hope the principal considers this and I am happy I was given the opportunity to change part of our society.

For our all school reads book this year we are reading a very interesting book, in my opinion. This book is a lot more interesting than last years book. I like the style of writing better than last years book's style of writing. I can't really compare myself with any of the characters in either book though. I do not have an abusive mom, or a dad that left me, but I am very engaged in the story because at some points it is very suspenseful. I like that the character is facing different challenges than I am, but he is the same age as me. I am really enjoying this book and I can't wait to read what happens next.

On April 16th I went to International Towne for a school field trip. It was a very fun experience and I would like to do it again. I liked being the president because you got to be part of the tribunal for a little while. I just wish that I had more time to spend my money on merchandise instead of all of these activities. I had a lot of money left over so next time I wouldn't be as cautious with my money as I was last time. The field trip was very fun and I even learned some things. I learned a lot about Japan that I never even knew before, for example, Japan's population is around 127.3 million. I had a blast at International Towne and I would love to go on this trip again.

Last week all of 7th grade dissected a chicken leg. We did this to learn more about living parts like tissues and ligaments. I had fun dissecting the chicken leg. I found out that when you push the ligaments of the chicken it moves other parts of the leg. I think dissecting a frog would be more fun because you see chicken legs everywhere but not dead frogs. I can't wait to dissect frogs, I think I will have more fun and we will see more parts in the frog than the chicken leg.

I am really excited to got to I-Town. My little brother went to Ameri-Town and said he had a lot of fun. For this field trip, I applied to be a television reporter in Japan. I applied for this job because I love speaking to crowds and I would love to be on "tv". I think I would be a great tv reporter because I have experience with talking to an audience and speaking my mind. Some other jobs I applied for includes: the president of Japan or Brazil and a food preparer in Ukraine. I am really looking forward to this field trip because I think it will be a great experience.

After I watched the movie Ernest Green, I was infuriated with how the high schoolers were treating the black kids. Who would treat a person so cruelly just because they are a different race? Aside from that, I thought the movie was interesting, I realized how much our country had changed over the past decades. If I were Ernest green, I don’t think I could do what anyone of them did. I would try, but I don’t think I would make it through the whole senior year, like Ernest Green did. Ernest Green faced so many difficult challenges, but made a difference in our whole country, not all people have the strength to face those challenges like Ernest Green did.

Have you ever wondered what you were doing 7 years ago? Today my family and I watched home videos and on this exact day 7 years ago I was doing skits with my big and little brother. I was 6, my older brother Josh was 11 years old, and my little brother Jacob was 4.The skits were really funny because we were so young and we never rehearsed. I also found out why our homemade cookies are so delicious. My little brother would lick the frosting on his finger then dip it back in the frosting mix and lick his same finger again. We have the proof on DVD now. Those two videos made us crack up. I love watching videos of when I was a little kid it’s like I was watching a movie all about me. I give those videos 5 stars! What are some memories that you got on video tape or DVD. I have so many; it’s hard to remember them all.

“It is better to be hated for what you are than loved for what you are not.” – Andre Gide
Would you rather live your life as an imposter or yourself?
Would you rather be a fake but liked
Or an original but disliked.
When you’re real you have the chance to change
If you’re a fake you stay the same
You can do the impossible and you have no limit
But being someone your not can’t become the ultimate
Take a moment to realize you’re better off being yourself
If anybody disagrees they are only neglecting themselves.

My friend came up to me on Staurday and asked if I wanted to run 3.1 miles while I'll get color bombs of blue, green, pink, purple, and yellow thrown at me while I'm running. I thought it sounded really cool so she told me all of the information and what to do to get in the run. My mom signed me up to do it! The run is in the summer, so it will feel nice to get cold wet things thrown at me. I can't wait. I''l start out fresh and clean then once the run is over I'll look like a tie-dyed hippie. I'll probably be in shape so it will not take a long time to run, but it wil be long enough so that I get tired. This is my first time doing anything like this and I can't wait till then. Hopefully the weather is nice and the color bombs are ready!

In life there is this thing called a cell
Animal, plant and bacteria as well
They have different parts,
And they do different things
In the cell here are the beings
There is mitochondrion
This makes energy,
The cell wall is its buddy too
It protects me and you
The nucleus is a fine operation
It’s the brain that acts like the control station
These are some parts
That makes up a cell
They create you and me
Even my aunt Michelle

Wiki Reflection

Overall, the wiki page project was a great experience because we got to use develop new skills on the computer. I expected this project to take a lot longer than it did, but the only reason I thought it would take longer was because I spent most of my time looking for pictures. They were really hard to find because of the copyrighting. Other than that this project was very easy especially creating the video because we got step by step instructions on how to create it. The group I worked with was great because I didn’t have to worry when the Louisiana students got on, I didn’t have one. My other really hard problem was using the wiki to communicate because they wouldn’t respond until the next day. Next year I would recommend no changes because it worked out pretty well. I had fun with this project and I hope next year people in your class will to.

Strength Isn't in Your Muscles

"Compassion and tolerance are not a sign of weakness, but a sign of strength." Dalai Lama
I think what Dalai means is that so many people in our community think that once you show that you are nice and compassionate to people, that later on people will walk all over you, but that is not the case. She is saying that when a human being shows a little of compassion or tolerance people will respect you more because they know that you would go out of your comfort zone to help. That is way better than lifting weights to show your strength. Your strength isn’t always in your muscles; it can be in your heart as well. Many people at my school think that if they don’t tolerate then they will look cool, if so being cool wasn’t what I thought it was. Being cool is showing your strength even if you don’t have huge muscles. If we could all follow this simple statement our community would be much brighter.

Resolutions and Goals

Many people take advantage of the New Year by reflecting on their past year and trying to change something about them in the New Year. Personally, I haven’t made any goals or resolutions for the New Year, but this prompt will help me decide. Some of my resolutions for the upcoming year would be to save more money; I usually blow tons of money on clothes and accessories. I would accomplish this by putting a lot of my money in the bank, since I don't go there a lot I wouldn't be tempted to buy anything because I woldn't have tons of money. Another resolution is to spend a little less time on sports so I can get things done; most of my time goes towards my sports because I am very passionate about them, but I need to have a little me time too. I could check this off the list by not going to all of my practices, only going to the mandatory ones. A resolution that could help with school is my cooperation with others by including others, no matter how much I despise them, and letting others take charge; I don’t always have to be the leader. These resolutions will help make me a better person and more controlling of my time and money.

Argos Rule, Sparta Drools

Humanities has become really fun due to the Greek simulation. We have learned a lot about Ancient Greece including: their religion, how they lived, etc. There are many city-states including: Athens, Sparta, Argos, Corinth, and Megara. Each city-state lived in polises. The strongest and biggest polis was Sparta (Our arch-nemesis). My city-state is Argos, we are known as the underdogs but last I heard we were in second place with Sparta in first. Our group is also known for our building skills.
My whole team now loves to go to humanities because it has become more interactive and amazing! In class each table was assigned a polis and we would participate in the Olympic Games. Some of these games include: performing a play, tongue twisters, push-ups and wall sits (I came in first for wall sits!) at the end of the class each polis must send up a person to meet our fate. The Head Master (the teacher) will give you a choice of cards if you pick the right one you earn points if you draw a different card you will decrease points. I love this simulation, I wish we could d it all year!!

Geologic Time Scale Opinion

Scientists have many different opinions than me, but some of my opinions are alike to theirs. They usually evidence to support their opinions which is why I agree with some of their ideas. The idea that is going through my mind is whether I agree or disagree that scientists should base the geologic time scale on fossil records and the age of rocks. I think that it might not be a good idea to use fossil records to base the geological time scale on because those fossils might not be from a million years ago. People might have died immature which shows evidence of why their brains are so small or they might be short because of genetics passed down. This evidence is sometimes not based on facts but is a matter of opinion of why people have a small brain or a tiny body. I agree that scientists should base the geologic time scale using the age of rocks because obviously rocks have been around longer than humans and I think that we have more technology that we could use to test the age of rocks which can give us more of an understanding of the geologic time scale instead of just guessing the time scale with the human bodies. In my opinion Scientists should base the geologic time scale on the age of rocks and not fossil records. I believe that there is more evidence in the age of rocks and more opinions in the fossil records.

While looking on Mr. Ullrich’s blog posts I saw a type of quiz, but I kind of want to change it up and make it my own. This is going to be a blog all about you!!
1. Hot cocoa or warm fireplace?
2. Would you rather decorate the tree or decorate your house with lights?
3. Giving or getting presents?
4. What do you want for the Christmas? (If you do not celebrate it, what would you want for the holidays coming up for you?)
5. Watching Christmas movies or Caroling Christmas songs?
6. Do you make goodies for the holidays? If so what kind?
The questions above can be answered in your comment.

A Thankgiving Thanks

Over the years I have been more thankful for many things but I have three main things that I am thankful for. At the top of the list are my friends and family. They know what I am going through and can always cheer me up. Another thing I am thankful for are my sports that I play. I play soccer, basketball, and volleyball and if there were no sports I would scream! The last thing that I am thankful for is the technology, including: phones, laptops, and apple products. If there was no technology I wouldn’t be able to keep in touch with my friends and would get F’s in almost every class. These main things that I am thankful for help make me, me and without them I would hate my life! I say thanks to everyone who participated in the making of these amazing things.

The best mystery I have read so far would probably have to be the book Chasing Vermeer. The author, Blue Balliett, has made this my so called “best book I have ever read” because he uses real life issues and it gets me really into it because of the details and descriptions the author uses.
A short story starter that could turn into a really good mystery would start out going like this: Last night was a little more odd than usual. It was quiet, too quiet. I didn’t know if it was all in my imagination or if it was real. Right then and there as I was about to shut my eyes and go to sleep, I saw it………

You will face new challenges like fighting in the wars, but they will make you stronger. God is sharpening you and helping you get ready for that big challenge that you will face in the future. You have helped others now it is time for us to help you. Thanks for putting your life on the line for us. We are glad you are alive and free from the war.

In my opinion, blogging is over all fun. It helps us improve our writing skills and we can find out what other people have to say about different subjects. I think it would be fun to do writing assignments because it could help me know when to elaborate and such. The bad part about having these assignments is that some people might not be able to use their computer at home and might not be able to do it at school. Blogging lets me learn more about others while at the same time I learn more writing skills. It would be fun to have writing assignments, but others might not be able to. What do you think about blogging?

When looking online I stumbled upon a skydiver jumping from the edge of space and I had to read on. Felix Baumgartner has attempted what no man has ever done before. The mission was to fly the man up 120,000 feet in the air in a capsule being held by a helium balloon. He was then going to jump out of the capsule and land safely on land wearing a pressurized space suit and helmet. The mission was a success! In my opinion he was a major dare devil to jump that far from the ground, I could never do that even if I was paid a million dollars. Felix Baumgartner had amazing courage especially when he knew he might not live. I just have one question; will any man be able to top that? I got my information from: http://www.headlinespot.com/for/kids/

The Right To Read!

Let’s celebrate the freedom to read! In my opinion, banned books week is a week that shows our true American imagination and should not be banned. I feel like it would be a privilege to be on that list of books. Freedom of speech falls into this because people have the freedom to write and read whatever we would like and nobody (except our parents) can tell us not to. The choice to ban books is ours to make not the overprotective people (except if we have parents like that) or anyone else. Books shouldn’t be banned, we have the right to read, plus some of the books that are banned are really good. For example, th book Hunger Games was banned because of the violence but it made almost 155 million dollars because people enjoyed it so much, Hunger Games is a great book but if books like these are banned nobody can read interesting things and no one will enjoy reading. People can ban books at their home but not for their country, we have the right to speak our minds with books and through books. I think if we were banned from reading it is like losing our right to freedom of speech. DON’T BAN BOOKS AMERICA!

I love you more than my old soccer cleats,
The ones I’ll never give up.
I love you more than the perfect field,
The one I use to warm up.
I love you more than my soccer ball,
The one that’s perfect for amazing passes.
I love you more than me running along those different types of grasses.
I love you more than the cheering crowds,
The stands made out of plaster.
I love you more than that perfect kick,
That I have yet to master. I love you more than my soccer cleats the ones that hold all reason.
I love you more than my coach, my soccer team and my season.
I love you more than winning world cup,
That we have yet to reclaim.
I just can’t love you more than the beautiful game!

It has been forever since I was on a field trip, the sun was shining and the wind was just right. My favorite part of the trip was the team building activity where we did minute to win it games. I loved moving the cookie around my face and trying to get it in my mouth! My favorite activity for the science part of the field trip was trying to camouflage ourselves so the predator couldn’t find us, the reason I liked this activity is because there was no writing involved and I was a game!! For every activity I learned something new. I learned how to find the pH, I learned I’m a take charge kind of person, and that a bouncy ball and pipes lead to a ton of people screaming. Being on this field trip I was able to connect to people and learn more about myself,I can't wait to go on another field trip like this.

Did You Ever Go To School?

First of all, did the baker ever go to a real school? Obviously he didn't, he is stating that 7*13=28. 7*13=91 not 28. When adding, the baker didn't use his ones (10s) correctly and when multiplying he didn’t carry the two, therefore misleading him into thinking that 13*7=28. A way you could find the actual answer is by making seven groups and splitting twenty eight donuts equally into those seven groups, if you did this you would end up with four donuts in each group. Using my knowledge I couldn’t come up with any other numbers work like this problem that they showed.

One day when I was five years old, my big brother Josh was teaching me how to catch a baseball out in our backyard. My brother threw the ball very far, so I went to go retrieve it. As I was going to pick up the ball I noticed a huge, gigantic, fat raccoon right next to me. I tip-toed over to where my brother was standing and told him there was a raccoon sleeping over by that big tree. Then Josh rushed over quietly to see. Josh decided that we should quietly tip-toe over to our house and tell our parents. Once my parents got out of shock, they went outside to see but they said the raccoon was dead. My dad then called animal control and they said that there was nothing that they could do about it, so my dad had to be brave. He found a huge box to put it in, then using all of his strength he put the raccoon in the box, he duct taped him shut, and threw him in the garbage. At the time I wasn’t scared, I was actually excited, but now that I think about it, I should have been scared.
