Compared to 6th grade, 7th grade was awesome. Don't ask why, because I haven't figured that out yet. Anyway, this year definitely had its ups and downs. I must say, my favorite part was playing sharks and minnows during our pride parties. Much better than sitting in a classroom. My least favorite part was, well...Anyways, some things I learned where how to better manage my time and how to use computers more efficiently. Knowing how to effectively use computers is very important. Next year, I hope to start on my homework sooner when I get home. Normally I go on a run, or do something fun first.
For next years 7th graders, all I can say is to start on projects and big assignment before it's too late. I learned that the night before World History Fair(haha, just kidding).

World history influences our lives today in many ways. First, we can learn from the past. Mistakes and accomplishments of the past can teach us lessons today. Also, how people in history lived influences us today. For example, if we use up all the fossil fuels and really polute our earth, those after us will be affected.
For the fair, my favorite part was seeing all the different exhibits. I thought all the variety was so cool.
While at the fair, I learned a lot. I learned anything from torture mechanisms to ancient tools and weapons. My favorite thing to learn about was all the types of pasta. I love pasta.

I completely agree with Mandella. Education is a wonderful thing and it will completely change your life. Education is truly the most powerful weapon too. You may claim that a weapon is more powerful. If that's so, let me ask how we got to such advanced weapons? Through thinking and innovation. Education helps you to be more innovative and thoughtful. I wrote my post card to a teacher. I did this in the hopes to change our class style. I hope that through Mandella and others, we can create a better, more educated world.

So far, I have found our school read a pretty good book. I like the author's style of writing and the story line is well done. Compared to last years book, this is beyond awesome. I was not a huge fan at all of last years book. This book actually has a story line, gets you engaged, and is a little suspenseful. It's also interesting to get a wider view of what some kid's lives are like. As a whole, I have really enjoyed our all school read.

I really enjoyed International Towne. While preparing for it in class, I learned lots about international trade. I also learned about foreign hand signs. My favorite part would have been the food in Mexico, but sadly they were all out when I went. Instead, it was probably learning about all the different countries in the opening ceremony. If I could change anything about next time, I would want to have more time during my breaks. The only reason I was able to finish all I had to was because I finished my job early, and got to get a longer break.

Last week we dissected chicken wings. I thought it was really fun. We dissected the chicken wing to learn more about the skeletal and muscular system. I think the best way to learn about something is to get a first hand experience. I don't get grossed out by that kind of stuff because...well, yeah. Over all I really enjoyed the experience and am excited to dissect even more.

For my World History Fair, I researched the question, "Why was the Roman Military so successful?" So far, my research was gone well, as it is fairly easy to find out about the tactics and formations, but difficult to find how they compared to the rest of the world. As for my 3-D project, not so much. I'll have to think about that a little. Overall, I have enjoyed this project so far, and look forward to the actual History Fair.

After Watching the movie on Ernest Green, I was pretty mad. Why would anybody treat anyone so poorly for any reason, especially because they had different skin? Other than that matter, I really enjoyed the movie. It really opened my eyes on what our country used to be like. I am so glad we have changed! If I were Ernest Green, I don't know if I'd have the courage to do what he did. I'd definetly try, buy finishing is a whole different matter. It's brave people like Ernest Green, and others who faced such incridible odds, who make our country such a wonderful place.

After you read this, you will definetly think I am a complete nerd(not like I'm not). To put it straight forward, I love running. Running is awesome. Most people hate it, however I find it SO MUCH FUN. I will sometimes experience something called "runners high." This happens when you're running, and you just don't want to stop. You want to go, go, and keep going. This strange "case" ends for me when I try to go super fast and really exhaust myself, or when I run out of places to go(quite a shame). Not only do I run at home, but I also run with the Pikes Peak Road Runners, and cross country for school. Running for school is especially fun because you can see how fast you are compared to other runners, and you get to run it new places. Also, if you're good enough, you get ribbons. I personally would suggest that everybody try running more often, wheather it be long distance(more than two miles) or even short distance...you won't regret it!

This Quote is very small

it has a lot of math

this quote is very inspiring
it is also desiring
it says how to be smart
if you ate it, it would be tart
it was written by the guy who made the light

I'm not exactly one who you would call a poet, but I guess I'll give it a try...
Life is full of all types of things
Food, fun, people, and sometimes, chicken wings,
But we all know very well
That we are made up of something called, a cell
Cells are all very tiny little things
Everything living is made of cells even kings
Cells make up all living stuff, from a tiny mouse
To the one alive wood in a very large house
Several things build cells of a great dane
For example the cell membrane
The cell membrane controls what goes in and out
just like a guard who likes to pout

As a whole, the wiki poem project was a very unique experience. Some things worked better than I expected, and other things were a lot harder than I expected. One hard thing was finding pictures for my video. I spent a LOT of time on that. One easier thing was doing the video itself. The recording and posting went smoother than I expected. The group that I worked with was very good. Everybody contributed and did some work. The only problems were that as of Wednesday afternoon, my Louisianna partner still hasn't done her video part. Also, communicating through the wiki was tough as we couldn't delete messages do there was a large abundance of messages.
Next year, I think it would be nice if the teachers could give more examples from years past. That would have really helped. Over all, I think the project went very smoothly.

Several days ago, we had a speaker come to our school and talk about bullying. He didn't pull out the classic "don't bully people, it's not nice" or the "stand up to bullys and don't be a bystander." All that is good and dandy, but it doesn't really effect you very much. The speaker we had (Mark Brown) had a very different approach. He compared the movie The Beauty and the Beast to bullying. I really like this approach. I thought that it stuck with me a lot more than other boring speeches. Not only was Mr. Brown's talk creative, but it was funny which stuck with me too. People remember things better when there's something remarkable, or unique about it...like humor. Even though I havn't seen any difference in bullying (I tend to block that out when going down the halls) I try to be more aware of how people feel and what we say to them. You never know when just an idle comment could really hurt someone.

"Believe you can and you're halfway there." Theodore Roosevelt
What Mr. Roosevelt means by this is that fighting a battle, or solving a task is a very mental process. If you think you can do something, you strive to accomplish it, believe that you can do it, and won't put yourself down. On the other hand, if you do put yourself down, and doubt that you can do it, you won't. I can apply this to my life by believing in myself more. If I do this, I will be much more successful. This could change someone's attitude for the better by helping them to overcome their challenges, and helping them to succeeed. This could also impact the world as a whole by proving to people how important it is to believe in yourself, and build others up.

This year, I would like to set, and make some new goals. One goal is to continue getting good grades. To do this, I must be organized and attentive in class. I must also study out of school more. Also, I would like to practice more for band. I will need to take my trombone home more and remember to practice. Finally, I would like to improve my mile run in P.E. more than I did last year. To do this, I must run faster.:)

Ancient Greece was a vast and complicated civilization. Greece was not one unifyed country like the U.S. is. It was instead divided into individual but large citys called city-states, or the polis. There were many different city-states including Sparta, Athens, Megara, Corinth, and several others. Sparta and Athens however, were the power-houses. Sparta had a strong and powerful army, while Athens had a powerful navy and valued education. The two city-states were rivals, and eventually went to war.
In class, we are doing a simulation of the olympics. Every four years, all of Greece would put a hold on all their disputes and have the olympics, a series of athletic games. Some games we have done in class are shot-put, push-ups, standing long jump, wall sits, and tounge twisters. These weren't all necesarilly games they had, but due to the fact we are in school, we are limited to what we can do. I definetly enjoy this Greek simulation, it is very fun.

“Scientists base the geologic time scale on fossil records and the ages of rocks. Do you agree with what scientists think? Why or why not? Which parts do you disagree/agree with?”
Through the discovery of many different fossils and rocks, scientists have built a large time line including anything and everything from dinosaurs to people. On the long run, I am undecided about whether I agree with these scientists or not. I am a Christian and I believe in the bible. Although the first book of Genesis does say how the earth began, it is not very specific. For example, it says "Now the earth was formless and empty, and darkness was over the surface of the deep..." So was the earth already there? What was the deep? Although I am not certain about that, I am positive about a few things. First off, I agree that people came after other animals. I am also certain that I don't believe in evolution. God created us in his image, not a monkey's image. True, people may have gotten taller and stronger, but they weren't originally monkeys. Though there is "evidence" to support the geologic time scale, I'm not so sure it is all completely true.

Right now, if I were given the opporunity, I would rather be camping. First off, sitting at a computer moving your fingers isn't that fun(although it is better than writing an essay). Besides, why wouldn't you want to be camping? Camping is AWESOME. Not only do you get to sleep in a tent, but you also get to hike, fish, and play with fire(I love fire).
Ok, I know that's not very good, but it's all I could think of.

What I'm Thankful For

If I were to make a list of ALL I'm thankful for, you would all learn the true meaning of infinity. Instead, I'll just list a few. First off, I'm thankful for the ability to run, jump, and move on my legs. I have a friend who can't walk. In fact, he can't even move his legs. He often asks us to move his legs and adjust them to more comftorable possitions. He relys so much on us. I just can't imagine that. I'm so fortunate to be able to move myself. I'm also thankful that I can get a good education. True, sometimes it is hard to get up in the moring and do my homework at night when I could be reading a good book. But how would I read if I was never taught? Can you imagine not being able to read! I experienced that when I went over seas and it drove me crazy! Next, I'm thankful for living in a state with mountains. I would die if I couldn't camp, hunt or hike. Last, I'm thankful for a great family. My siblings and I all have good relationships and I wouldn't have it any other way. Over all, I really don't have a whole lot to complain about, after all, what can you complain about when your about to go eat pumkin pie?(ha ha)

Right now, my favorite mystery is The Speckled Band. First off, I love Sherlock Holmes. He is a genius. Also, this mystery isn't the classic robbery or a boring murder, it's very creative and unique. One unusual feature is the investigation of the crime occured several after the crime. Also, how the crime was commited was unique to the murderer and his interests. It was not the boring stab with a knive or shot of a gun (not intent to be violent). Alright, here's my attempt to write,
A dark shadow slid across the wall. A crash sounded and then a cry of dismay. Following that, silence. As stealthily as a mouse, the offender slipped out. Four hours later, the alarm sounded. By then, however, it was too late. Police and investigators swarmed all over the museum. The only evidence they found was a finger print of the missing guard on the case of the gold crown, the missing gold crown.

The problems though are that technology can be difficult to use for school at home. Also, it can be slightly challenging to get good feedback and communicate well with the teacher.

Hubble Trouble

For 18 years, the Hubble space telescope has been sending us never before seen images of space and far away galaxies. However, late this September, the Hubble stopped sending us data. The problem is the data formatting unit. This device is used to take information from the five different instruments and send this data back to earth. Without this working, the telescope is useless. NASA does have a backup unit but scientists say that this could cause several problems.
Personally, I think that this problem could not have been avoided. NASA was prepared for this type of problem and did install a backup. They were however, unable to predict the potential problems with replacing it. If a backup unit wasn't installed, they would be facing a much bigger problem.

Right now, I am reading an autobiography by a man named Peter Jenkins call Across China. This book is about when Peter (the author) is invited to travel up to base camp of Mount Everest. With him are several men making the attempt of summiting the mountain. After Peter gets to base camp, he leaves to tour China, Mongolia, and Tibet. The book is about all his different traveling adventures. So far, I have enjoyed the book as it talks a lot about foreign cultures. It also talks a lot about the Chinese Cultural Revolution. The Negative side about it though is that there is no climax or build up so it is not super exciting or suspenseful.

Honestly, I think that the banning of books is the most ridiculous thing ever. Let's pretend that you're the president of the U.S. and you ban one book, just one. The next thing you know, hundreds of books are banned. If hundreds of books are banned, no one can read any interesting books and nobody will enjoy reading. If you don't enjoy reading, you won't get as good of an education. Without good education, a country falls apart. Without knowing it, you have just completely ruined the future of an entire country.
Also, let's address the freedom of speech. The freedom of speech says that people are free to talk(obviously). One way of speaking is by communicating through books. By banning a book, you are essentially taking away that persons right to say as they please. That's completely contradicting the freedom of speech.
Finally, banning books has a negative effect on the economy. Let's take the Hunger Games for example. The Hunger Games has been charged with violence, anti-ethics, and offensive language. Along with making about 155 million dollars (the movie written after the book), it's probaly the most popular book in the entire U.S(just an opinion.) Those two features don't seem to match up, but they do. If a popular book is challenged, nobody will listen. Obviously, if you want to ban a book, especially a popular book, you're toast. From now on READ ON!

As many of us well know, a marathon is a 26.2 mile long race. The name and distance comes from a legend that says a servant ran 26.2 miles from the field of a battle to report his countries victory. What most of us don't know about however is the wheelchair marathon. 34 years ago, the first official wheelchair marathon was held in Toledo Ohio. Bob Hall won it with a time of 2:54. Josh Cassidy however holds the world record time of 1:18:27. That's 3 minute miles, for 26.2 miles in a row, in a wheelchair. Wow.

At our field trip at Fox Run Park, my favorite activity (other than lunch) was a team building event. In this event, there was a team of about 8 kids on a wooden plank. Across from us was another identical plank which we all needed to get to. To accomplish this goal, we had several magic rocks. Unable to touch the ground, we had to set the rocks on the ground and step on them until we were all at the other board. This sounds easy, and it is, except that if at any point a rock was not being touched by a person, the rock would be taken away by the "magical rock fairy". We accomplished the task several times although it was not easy. Along with playing fun games, I learned a couple new things. First, I learned how to measure the pH of water. Also, I learned that in nature, there is a perfect balance between populations and sources (food, water, and shelter). Finally, I learned more about the mountain lion and how it adapts to its environment. Not only was my field trip to Fox Run Park fun, but I also learned many things that would not have been as exciting to learn out of a book.

28,21,7,91?

First off, 7*13 is 91. You get this answer because 7*3 is indeed 21. 7*10(not one) is 70. 70+21=91, not thirteen. Also,
13
13
13
13
13
13
+13 3+3+3+3+3+3+3=21, 1+1+1+1+1+1+1=7(10)=70
And we all know that 70+21=91. You see the cook forgot to multiply all his 1s by 10 which led to 21+7 which is 28.
If you dislike math, you could have put all the donuts into 7 even groups. If you did this, you would have 4 donuts in each group, not thirteen.

About three years ago when I was still living in Singapore, I experienced the most uncanny thing ever. My family and I were on a walk and we saw a gecko. Geckos are everywhere in Singapore. In fact, we even had some living in our shower! Anyhow, being the nature lovers, my sister and I chased after it. As I bent down to scoop it up, its tail popped off. In addition to falling off, the tail started wiggling all over! I later learned that geckos will lose their tale when in danger. They do this as a distraction so they can make their getaway.

About the Blogger
My name is David and I live in Colorado Springs CO. One thing I enjoy to do is run cross-country and play soccer. I also like to backpack, hike, camp, or anything in the mountains. By the way, bison are the bomb.
