Similes:
Mary was as sweet as a pie.
The wind was like a piercing arrow.

When its swapped..

Metaphors:
The train screamed as it came down the tracks.
His stomach was as empty as a bottomless pit.

Similes:
Mary was a sweet pie.
The wind was a piercing arrow.
