I am very surprised with what I was capable to do and thanks to your help, I was constantly surprising myself. English has never been my strength since I'm very blunt and to the point so elaborating on things is never easy for me since I feel at a loss for words and plus being on the shy side doesn't help. I didn't have any complications in the course that weren't hard to overcome and for a little while I did feel a little overwhelmed trying to balance school and work but the assignments came at a good pace and were easy to understand. The assignment I liked the most was our first major project which was surprising since I hate essays but I love reading and I wish there was more of it but I know with such a condensed course, it would if been impossible to squeeze a novel study in. I went into this course being very nervous because of how previous English courses had been but I enjoyed your class very much! It had an awesome atmosphere and the assignments were put together very well as well.

The way I like to plan for research is to jot notes of direct, short pieces of information. I'm very blunt and to the point so I make my notes as such to work with me. Then after I gather up the notes that seem the most important and elaborate on them and eventually piece everything together to start my essay.

I think the Internet is a great place to do research. There are so many different sites to go infirm different purposes. But at the same time you never know how factual and true those sites are. You really have to look into what you're researching and compare results.

My goal in this class is to pass with my highest mark possible. At mid-term, I was at 71% and i'm hoping to maintain that mark or better it. I don't think i will continue schooling after this, I have my apprenticeship to finish first. But now having my final credit gives me that option and opens many doors to me, school and job wise.

I don't mind in class discussions, just as long as I kind of know the people i'm in a group with or else I just stay quiet. I like them because if I'm having difficulty with an assignment, listening to other peoples ideas and brainstorming helps me get my assignment in motion again. I think its great that students can feed off one another and hear great ideas and come up with their own off of others ideas.

Music has the capability to evoke emotion. It can heal people in times of sadness and grief, it can get them pumped for an upcoming event or mellow you out after a long day. Some people connects with songs because of the message, others connect with it because of the beat and rhythem but any which way, music has an influence over people, whether minor or major.

From what I gather of the lyric, it sounds to me like he's talking about trying his hardest to give a girl/guy everything they want, everything they used to have but to no avail. The picture I get is literally a guy sifting through shards of glass, getting knicked and cut while doing so to try and find a filament that once held light to the girl's/guy's happiness, something that would bring back light of a better time. The saying 'Real eyes realize real lies' is a saying that strikes with me just because of the repition of the sound. And not only that, but also the meaning of it. I feel the meaning to it is people that aren't naive and don't sugar coat every thing are capable of seeing things for what they really are.

For the major assignment, I used all the hand outs we were given and grouped up all the stories were given to choose from and clipped them all together to try and keep it all together and organized. I then chose one of the quotes we were given on one of the handouts and went through the stories, trying to find ones that I could relate to my quote and the subject of 'Power and Choices'. I did a bit of analysis in my essay, broke down the stories a little bit to help better explain how I felt they were connected to the topic. I didn't really write down any meaningful connections and I didn't write to the full length Jody wanted because I kind of came to a loss with what to write and how to write it but once it was all said and done for, I was happy with handed in and have high hopes for a decent mark.

I think I would be lost without the internet. I rely on it for so many things like if I quickly want to find lyrics to a song, find a quick answer to a question, it's all right there. And not only that but I use it to keep in touch with people that I went to school with, I use it for my banking and so many other things. I rely on the internet a lot just because it makes life simpler because everything is right at your fingertips. But I find people today do rely on it a lot when we really we shouldn't. Our parents and grandparents made it through life without it so i'm sure we can but i'm sure most people can agree its almost become a neccessity today in our everyday life.

For my representation assignment, I did a poster for Mother to Son. I drew a staircase, just as she decribed it with splinters and nails sticking up, uneven and with carpet missing in spots. At the bottom of the staircase, I put a dark cloud with lightning and rain, a broken a heart, a no money symbol and a crooked picture with an angry face on it representing all the hard and negative times life can give you. On the staircase I had a man climbing up it and at the top I drew a sun, a heart, a money symbol and a picture hanging up with a smiley face on to represent all the happy and positive things in life. I was trying to show that keep if you don't try, you're only going to stay at the bottom with the bad times where as if you keeping trying and keep climbing, the good things in life will eventually come. I'm no artist but I feel I did a good job of showing what my idea was.

A life experience that happened to me recently was that me and my boyfriend went to his friends place to watch the NHL playoffs and he had a couple of drinks so when the game ended around 11:30, I had to drive us home. Already half asleep, I had no choice whether or not I wanted to so I didn't re-adjust his mirrors or anything, I just wanted to get home and I relied on backing up with the back-up camera on his truck. When we got home, someone was parked in his usual spot so I went to back up and park his truck behind my car. Well, I didn't notice or see in the back-up camera that there was a car behind mine so I ended up grazing against a car and scratching both vehicles. There's a ton of things now that I wish we could of done like stay home like I wanted to, taken my time to readjust his mirrors or even just paying better attention to my surroundings better when backing up. But it's too late now and i'm out $200 and 2 merits off my license. Oh well, you live and you learn! At least no one was super upset with me and everything was able to get resolved.

I chose the Northern Snakehead article. I picked that article it was the only article i was really interested in. I switched it from a news article to a rant. I chose to do my writing variable in that form because i'm good at ranting, my friends and boyfriend would know that best. My final product was a little rant on how pet stores should be educating buyers on what they're selling, it'd be a simple solution to the Northern Snakehead problem. The language changed because of the form I chose. I didn't really need to be formal with the way I wrote, like you would have to be writing a serious article for a paper.

Well week 1 is done and so far, it's been good. There's a wide range of different people of different ages. I love how condensed the course and how the course has been going so far. ELA assignents usually aren't a strength of mine but I haven't been doing too bad, the assignments have managable so far. The one thing I wasn't too sure about in the curriculum was the blog assignments but so far writing them hasn't been bad. Just not too sure how I'll do when it comes to having to comment on other people's blogs.
This semester I hope to be to every class, hand my assignments in on time and try my best at everything that comes my way. I'm hoping it won't be too difficult balancing my job and schooling but I'll see how it goes as time goes on.

I'd have to say my favourite movie is Insidious. I love all types of scary movies and this time last yr I went to go see it when it first came out and it is the only movie that has ever made me jump and scream like it did.
