This, to me, was an absolutely fantastic class. Jody, your curriculum and teaching style is top-notch. What I loved about the course was the topics we had to write about. I felt there was a lot about soul searching, which is something that I find a lot of us need to do. I love that somebody is actually teaching this.

At first, the only thing I hated was getting into groups, BUT, now I wish we were forced more into different groups so we could have learned more opinions. We tended to form the same groups over and over.

This course met my expectations and then some. I felt I learned a lot about myself. I also really dug a lot of the stories we read. Thanks for the great experience. I think I'm going to miss this class and everyone in it.

I kind of knew to examine different research on the internet due to falling for an ad for yahoo answers. Most of the answers, it seems, are from morons. It's easy to find if the answers you're looking for is genuine, it just takes some...research.
I found the information the african guy on the wikipedia video said about using the discussion part of wikipedia very interesting. I like the facts to be facts, of course, but I do like to hear everyones opinion of these facts, too.

Effective planning is important for essay writing to me because it helps me stay more organized. I will tend to go off in various directions and ramble on without it. I do get easily swayed by reading the research also. It changes what I want to write about most of the time and I feel like starting over again.

Following is a quote by Operation Ivy singer, Jesse Michaels, from the liner notes of Energy (1991):

"Music is an indirect force for change, because it provides an anchor against human tragedy. In this sense, it works towards a reconciled world..."

In at least one paragraph, discuss music as a form of communication and a ‘force for change’.

Man, I just don't get this guy's quote. I can't grasp it. Does he mean that music can uplift someone if there's a tradedy like a death in the family or something? I would agree with that, but I don't think music could change much, other than enhancing emotions.

I'm a big fan of music and I love how it can bring people together. I've met a lot of great people through music (I've played drums in bands for 20 years) but other than being a musician, the only ways I can think of music as a form of communication is when natives used drums to "call" others from far away...or was that smoke signals? And another way was the bugles
calling the troops for war. Am I being too literal?

For this blog I've decided to start an advice column. If anyone has questions about sex, or could use some advice on their relationships or about themselves, feel free to ask! I will give you answers to the best of my knowledge. I am not a doctor.

I don't know if you would call these lyrics unusual but they're definitely interesting. I'm not sure I fully understand them, but I think they are absolutely fantastic and creative. The song is "I am the Highway by Audioslave. If anyone has their own interpretation of these lyrics I would love to hear them.

I am not your rolling wheels
I am the highway
I am not your carpet ride
I am the sky

I am not your blowing wind
I am the lightning
I am not your autumn moon
I am the night
The night

Blog 5 - Major Assignment Thingy

Article posted April 3, 2012 at 12:37 AM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 244

To prepare for the major assignment, I'm going to go over the previous stories and review some of the minor assignments to refresh my memory (and maybe steal some ideas of how to write). I will go over the instructions many times to fully understand what to do. I'll jot down ideas when they come up and edit them accordingly. Then I analyze and revise. I'm going to focus on writing from the heart, putting feeling into what I write.
Taking the time to do all of this is the hardest and most important test for my brain.

For my Representation Assignment, I first sat around for 10 minutes trying to figure out what we were doing and what I was going to do. I had to leave early that day so I felt a little rushed. I decided to draw an ad poster featuring the demon with the poison martini, (from the story Burnt Toast by Mack Reynolds) saying that you could win up to $100,000 with 13 to 1 odds.
I wasn't totally happy with my presentation; I should have done more research. For the next time, I will ask more questions about the assignment, and I would like to see more examples of what we are required to do.

It's funny that we're doing a blog on analysis, as I'm getting into analyzing my thoughts and emotions more and more as I get older. I want to understand who I am, what I want and why I want it. This leads me to analyze what everyone else is doing and life in general. I question why people do what they do and why I do what I do.

This brings me to find better solutions on how to deal with life, which brings me to this class. I think education can do nothing but good. The purpose of teaching and practicing different types of thinking will make things easier to understand, help expand the mind, and make everything go smoothly.

My final text was on the newspaper article about the Snakehead fish taking over the lake. The context was changed by making it a story from the perspective of the fish being attacked and writing a journal before they are wiped out. The purpose was changed to be more entertaining than informing. The form is more a short story format. The audience might include a younger demographic as well.
I wanted to keep the main idea of the story similar because then I think it would be too different from the original, and would end up being a different story.
The language of the text changed by being more dramatic. Suspense was an added effect, whereas in the newspaper article the facts were listed in an informative manner.
