< Well, for me most of this was a repeat from last year’s course. I will admit that when you look over something more than once it sticks in your head better. I would say that looking at all this again has helped me hone my skills, seeing what is legit and what is fake when it comes to online sources. The one thing I don’t really like about the owl website is that I found it hard to find what I was looking for. There was almost too much extra info and nonsense I like to read things and get right to the point. I was still able to find what I needed it just took longer than I thought.

I feel evaluating sources is very important. it is something that we should all do everytime we read a text regardless if its for a research essay or assignment. In today's world of internet blogs and postings that can be made it seems like in mintunes as opposed to the past where something that was published would go through numerous people and editors before it was read or even thought about being printed on paper. Its important to judge your source and really dig into it. We can't just belive a source is true because someone wrote it. we must break it down and really think. what is this author getting across. does the author use bias? is his view not broad but narrowly focused. In todays world it seems if its posted on the internet we all belive its a legitmete resource. when it truth its nothing but a authors opinpon and lets be honest some views are horribly one sided. Lets say i used a example. If i read a world war two book. and i read it from a American perpestive would it be different if i read it the book from a german view. its very interesting to consider that. to view something from someones elses view.

On monday's class I learned new ways to do research and how long it takes to find information that is truthfull, especially finding information on the internet. You can gather info very quickly on the internet but everyone has their own opinion and you have to do alot of cross checking your info. Doing a research project is very repetative but thats one of the best ways of learning. The best way to get the right info for projects is to search more than one reputable internet sight to make sure your getting the right info

I really didn't think it was of great importance to look in depth to see if all the sources on the internet were totally legit or not. I guess it makes sense if you are doing research since you would not just grab any book off the shelf in the library and extract whatever info without looking at the credentials of the author. I like to know that a book i use for research is not just a bunch of mindless dribble. I would have to say that I look for more than one site to see if there are simular pieces of information on different websites. Not that I do much research to be honest but when I do I would like to hope I am getting proper info when I retreive it online.

I am embarrassed to admit this but I was not really aware of the differences regarding the accuracy of the information I was getting from the internet. I did realize that some sites are more legit than others of course, but I had no idea that Wikipedia was a web site that anyone could adjust! I found this to be very interesting. Basically everything that was discussed in the evaluating sources class was a very informative class for me that will help me beyond the research project I am working on.

In Mondays class I heard a variety of new and interesting idea’s. First off, I know when I am looking for something specific on the internet weather it is for research or just for my own personal use I normally don’t check for accuracy, list of references or other citations. When I am browsing through sites for certain information I usually cross-check the information. I look at a number of sites to see if they have the same answers. I also generally look for websites that have a generous amount of text then decide if what I am looking for is incorporated in the page. One other thing that I think will be useful for when I am seeking information in the future is to look for keywords regarding the topic of interest.

Today I have learned to double check the sources I am reading on the net. I learned to check the date of the website because information changes over the years. Also I have learned to read everything through on the website to make sure it is truthful. Now i know to make sure when reasearching.

i thought of a good way to research. that was if you are looking up on how fish breath for example. one site says they breath with their gills and your not sure. back it up by looking at what other sites say.

I don’t really use the internet allot besides music but when I heard that you have to make sure the site you are checking out is legit it made me happy that I don’t really use it. I never knew that Wikipedia was a site that any person could post something on it really makes me want to never go to that site again. I think I will continue to try and not use the internet for my main source of knowledge but if I do then all make sure to check a couple off different sites before I decide what I am going to learn from it.

Doing a research project is really straight forward; you brainstorm ideas and questions around your topic and begin your research from there. Gather relevant info. and start organizing your research in an order that makes sense to you. From there you start writing your essay blah, blah, and blah. Everything about a research project is tedious, repetitive and very time consuming. At least that is the impression I got from all these notes, and web pages that we have read and looked at, they all just seem to tell you the same thing, just worded differently in each one. I was always taught that as long as you did not plagiarize you info. and can understand what you have re-written and explain, than you’ve done a good job. I can still appreciate needing to this do develop the necessary skills that are required in a lot of fields of employment. So yes I’m learning new things, but they are also confusing some of which I thought I already knew.

I was not surprised to hear that a lot of the information found on the internet may not be as accurate as you would think. I myself rarely search the internet when doing any kind of research, especially for academic purposes. It was actually news to me that there is no real “process” of evaluation before posting information online, for some reason I thought there was some sort of publishing process for that. I am a bit old fashioned when it comes to research, I like to dig out my library card, head down and look up every book or video they have available on the subject. I can trust that any source of information found at a public library has undergone the proper publishing process and the facts and information are valid and trustworthy. I am big on doing research on my own time, I get very interested in random topics and spend hours at the library reading everything I can until I feel I know enough to have a detailed conversation or debate about it with someone. I am such a geek!
I have already been to the library for information on my research topic. I did check some stuff out online first and got very disorganized, confused, and unsure. I quickly gave up on the net and found everything I needed in a matter of minutes at the library and got so much done in ample time. Also, the library itself is an ideal place for sitting at a table and getting tons of studying done. If your home is anything like mine, there are about 8563453 million things keeping me from concentrating.

I know that it is always important to check your sources when doing research. usually books are okay because not just anyone can edit them, and to be published, the author usually knows what they are talking about. I know with the internet though, anyone can make a website about anything, and sometimes you could find something that is total bullshit. Or you could be reading a site that looks legit, but anyone can edit it, so it may have started with correct information, but now has random people's thoughts or ideas passed on as facts.

In today's class, I realized that there is alot more to researching than I thought. I knew that you always have to check if your soucres are reliable or not but now I have a better understanding of how to do that, and which factors are more important to use while I'm researching. I like the idea of asking my self what exactly am i researching for, writing it down and answering those questions. I do find that most sites are accurate but there are ones that are editable and those you really need to watch for cause there is a chance it is not the right information you may be looking for. I didnt gedt a chance to watch the video in class but if i have time i will definitley take a look at it to receive more information. :)

I kind of knew to examine different research on the internet due to falling for an ad for yahoo answers. Most of the answers, it seems, are from morons. It's easy to find if the answers you're looking for is genuine, it just takes some...research.
I found the information the african guy on the wikipedia video said about using the discussion part of wikipedia very interesting. I like the facts to be facts, of course, but I do like to hear everyones opinion of these facts, too.

The internet is a world wide center for information. There is all sorts of information being provided by many different sources. When researching any subject you must be careful to look over or double check your information and who has provided it. When I watched this video on 'The Truth According To Wikipedia' I was shocked to realize that Wikipedia excepts information from any source. And it is True when they Say You Can't Always Believe What You Read, The internet is open to any ones information whether its giving information on some thing or some one or its receiving information about some thing or some one what you see on the internet you can't always believe. Make sure to check your sources!!

i learn't that looking up the references of the website is very important. Researching the author and finding out where he is from, where he went to school, and his backround. And knowing that anyone can just throw up anything on a website made me realize that there is a lot of crap on the internet, and you could look up a hundred websites or a couple with the right facts. Also popularity does matter, if a website is popular chances are it is for a reason, because it is knowing to be filled with factual information that has been edited and published properly.

In today's class, I just realized that there is alot more to researching accurately than I thought. I knew that you always have to check if your soucres are reliable or not but now I kind of have a better understanding of how to do that, and which factors are more important to use and develope while I'm researching.
I also think that the internet can be a good source you just have to make sure that, that source is accurate and reliable to what you're researching because if it isn't than it's just going to waste your time on your researching and not give you the proper resources you need.
We didn't get to watch the video in class but i think I'll check it out at home to see if I can get some more information on researching and evaluating sources.
