Microsoft Research demos an interactive transparent 3D desktop:

Microsoft is experimenting to see if a new Samsung OLED screen, which is transparent, can be used for a 3D computer! The desktop is just an experiment for now, but it could change the way we interact with our computers in general.

I chose this current event because it is amazing how we can have 3D transparent computers and how fast technology is evolving. Also, we are in Computer Applications class, and what better current event to have than about a computer!
