Madness in Eagle Theater

One day, on January 4, 1850, a horrible flood occurred in Sacramento, California. While the actors and actresses of the Eagle Theater were performing, the water slowly came into the theater from outside. All of the women were generally at the higher part of the theater, so they didn’t mind. The men, though, were all at the lower part of the place, oh no!!! People were crawling up to the next row each time that the water rose. The water eventually flooded the stage and the actors got mad. They stopped the play by the simple words of, ”No, we can’t go on!” So everyone exited to find that there indeed was a flood outside. The actors left Sacramento forever and performed in San Francisco. The Eagle Theater still sits in Old Sacramento, abandoned.

This blog has a couple of my favorite poems that I wrote. The poems are about my trip to Westminster Woods in Occidental. The things I saw were creepy, crawly, and crazy!
Fire Bellied Newt
Like a small stripe of color on the mossy tree
Like a funny, little, harmless monster
Like a peewee fire on the forest floor
Like a tiny, curious, exotic, creature
Like a silly blob on the dirt
Like a clump of sparks on the neon grass
Like a minniature flame on the ground
Cabin 6
Loud, scented, fun
Cabin 6
Strawberry Anemone
Rosy red, yellow dotted
Sucking, eating, searching
Tide pool, rocks, cinnamon, sugar
Craving, crusting, making
Crusty, delicious
Coffee Cake

If you read about my dog, Reilly you'd know that he's pretty silly! Rufus is a peewee dog so much smaller than Reilly, yet still, he likes to push him around! He actually thinks that he is the alfa dog! When Reilly is within 5 feet of his food dish, he yips at him until he is in the other room! Rufus is a silly, funny dog and I love him! :)

The Terrible Wave

Marden Dahlstedt’s book The Terrible Wave has amazing descriptive words and phrases. There are a ton of creative ideas and ways to see things that she writes to us making something so ordinary seem extraordinary. Dahlsedt saw a broken piano as an evil smile staring right at Megan. Dahlstedt used all the senses of Megan, seeing, hearing, smelling and feeling and made each one a topic to describe.
She said that the main character, Megan, saw things quite out of the ordinary. The large bulk of horse caught her eye. It slowly drifted past her as she sat in astonishment on a sodden mattress that she landed on after being thrown out of her house. She saw a man on top of a roof with his legs on either side, and he was hugging a tall, brick chimney. She smelled the oily water of this monstrous wave, and the smell of death tickled her nose every moment she actually got the chance to smell.
There is not much she heard other than the grinding, sawing sound of the wave destroying everything in sight that it devoured. Every so often she heard the far off cries of the few people who weren’t deceased. Megan’s body was filled with emotions and thoughts. She was scared that her family was possibly lifeless yet relieved that she was on a mattress to keep her afloat. Marden Dahlstedt’s book, The Terrible Wave, is an amazing, descriptive, book and puts you in the place of the Johnstown Flood.

I am in a group of girls who always hang out together. At recess we LOVE to play soccer. We all have nick names. One of them is called "G-wall". We call her that because she blocks the ball no matter how hard it goes. Another one is "G". We call her that because her name starts with a G and she is great at soccer. The last one is "Sky-Pie". We call her that because her name starts with sky and pie sounds like her name. That is their nick names.

My dog Reilly is a crazy dog who's always up for a game of "fetch"! His theory of fetch is(coming from Reilly) "You toss the ball, I go get it, we play tug-of-war until I drop it and you toss it again." He also likes "tag." (aka: run around outside until you catch me) He is a food excited dog. He is ready all the time to catch some food that falls on the ground. NEVER leave things on the ground or he will get it and it'll take a while to get it back. As you can see, he is an awesome, fun and loving dog. I love him and he loves me.

California's History

So many very important events happened in California to make it part of the United States. Some examples are Native Americans crossing the Land Bridge 40,000 years ago or the Bear Flag Revolt in the 1840’s. Some more topics are the war between Mexico and America and missions spread around California.
I think that everything that happened was pretty important, but one thing that happened was especially important… the signing of the Treaty Guadalupe Hidalgo. The treaty was signed after the War with Mexico. The war was a hard, vile, easily spreading battle. The war started because the United States wanted Mexico to sell California, but Mexico refused. The United States was going to fight for the land!
Eventually, America won the battle and decided that they would negotiate with Mexico. Both countries agreed on signing a treaty, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. This stated that the United States would receive 525,000 square miles of land from Mexico for only $15 million. That was the most important thing of all because if that didn’t happen California and much more land would be owned by Mexico.
