Bullying

Bullying is the act of putting someone down either physically or emotionally. Some kinds of bullying are constant name-calling, fighting, and cyber-bullying, (talking bad about someone on the internet.) The victim of the bullying can, (and should) contact an adult if the assault is physical or ignore the bullying if the assault is name-calling that does not personally hurt you. To stop bullying, I can support anti-bullying programs like Be A Star and hold plays like what the drama club held in our school to show the effects of extreme bullying.

My book is Stepping on the Cracks. This book is very similiar to the other books I have read, as the setting is World War II era America. The children's story in the book is also very common to that genre, being that the point of view of a child is often portrayed for horrible situations. I feel good about the book, being that there is a side story in the book that ultimately overshadows the problem of war. I would definitely reccomend this book toother people who are interested in that era's normal live's. I agree with the actions of the characters, as they react like a normal person would, (fear, sasdness, etc.). This relates to me as it shows the true side of a young pre-teenager in a stressful situation.

In Stepping on the Cracks, the plot is definitely not going like I thought. While the girls talk about World War II, they seem truly seem scared of of the crazy man in the woods instead of Hitler. My favorite character in the book has to be Margaret; she seems nice and trustworthy while being fun and brave. I predict that the crazy man will just be a throw-off, and that the war going on will become the biggest conflict, (Margaret's family versus the Axis). I can make the connection to Margaret and Elizabeth, as when I was six, I use to go to someone else's house almost every week to play with them, (that person is now a sixth grader at this school).

" Believe you can and you're halfway there"- Theodore Roosevelt.
I believe that this quote means that if you simply think and dedicate yourself to a goal, you can do that goal, (you have already acchieved the first step to meeting your goal). You can apply this quote to life in many ways, as this is a motivational quote that makes you believe that you can do something; in other words, you read this quote and you feel empowered. This quote could certainly change an attitude, as when you feel bad and don't think that you can do something, this quote reassures you that if you think you can and are willing to put in effort, you can do what you set out to acchieve. This actually did impact me, as I was having a rather tough day, and this quote helped me to see that if I think I can do something, I can. I truly think that Theodore Roosevelt was right on this quote.

Change Poem

Change by Brenda Poole:
Seasons come and go
Sceneries change over time
Nothing stays the same
Should we be revised?
Of course, it's necessary
All are due for change
Without change there's no
Future to look forward to
Change lives on a throne
Change can make us cry
Change can also make us laugh
Sometimes change is death
Sometimes change is life
Nothing ever changes change
Change is always change!
While I have never really read another poem like this, I have many connections to life and the world for this poem. This poem tells us that no matter what we do or become in life, nobody on this planet can escape changing. Without change, I would not be in the GT program, and my future would not be as bright as it could. This poem has a deep global theme, as this poem makes the effort to encourage people to accept change and change when the time is neccessary. I truly believe that this poem puts across a good image of change and makes the reader actually fell good.

I believe that there are many ways that poets can change the way a poem affects the reader. Let's say the poet wants to make the poem have a dark affect; the poet can use darker words and use characteriztion and details thta lead to fear. But if the poet wants an upbeat poem, he or she can use bright words, use whimsical metaphors and puns, and even add some rhythm.

My favorite book this year is White Fang. In that particular book, I hated Beauty Smith, a dog-fighter who turns White Fang into a cruel and unrelentless killer. Because of what Beauty does to White Fang, a hate for Beauty Smith is thrust at the reader. I would change him so that he respects and takes care of White Fang. I believe he represents all of the people who abuse and disrespect nature. This is related to the author in the way that Jack London is a nature lover and nature author.
