Some tools writers may use are things like similes and metaphors to compare one thing to another that may have a better or more common emotional connection. Also using imagery can help people to illustrate the scene in their mind without using a picture. They can also put the poem into the shape of something like if it is a love poem into a heart or a depressing poem into the shape of a tear drop.
