Global Warming: The Straight Facts

There has been a debate on whether global warming in something that humans are causing and whether or not it is a matter large enough for people to care. Well, the earth has been warming up for the past few decades at a rate of 1.2-1.8 degrees ferinheight. Many scientists believe that the earth is warming because of the greenhouse effect. We humans let out harmful gases by everyday things that we do. Like driving a car, using electricity and factories all burn fossil fuels. These gases absorb more heat that is radiated from the sun than usual causing the outer layer of the earth to warm therefore giving it the name of global warming. As result of this, much of the arctic sea ice is melting. About 12% of it has melted away in the past 32 years. As proof of the earth getting warmer over the past few decades, 1998 was the warmest year in all of recorded history. Many of the more recent hurricanes that occurred carried much more water than ever before. A decline of polar animals also has taken place as result of ice melting at the poles. Average temperatures in Alaska and Western Canada have increased twice as much as average global temperatures so the places closest to the poles are being affected the most. Glaciers and mountain snows are rapidly melting, for example, Montana’s Glacier National Park only has about 27 glaciers as oppose to 150 in 1910. I do believe that humans are causing most of Global Warming and it is happening but not at a rate fast enough to scare us.
