Global warming is pretty simple to me; WE CAUSE IT. With temperatures rising and water levels also, what other excuse do we have? Here are 4 main causes of global warming. The first is carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel burning power plants. With 40% of US CO2 emissions coming from electricity production, this is a main reason. The next reason comes from carbon dioxide emissions from burning gasoline for transportation. Though many cars don't produce this anymore, there are still some clunkers that still produce this harmful gas. The next reason/example is increase in usage of chemical fertilizers on croplands. Instead of the historical use of animal manure, we have started to use chemical fertilizers. These fertilizers contain nitrogen oxides, which has 300 more times the heat-trapping capacity per unit than carbon dioxide. The next example is deforestation, especially tropical forests for wood, pulp, and farmland. Trees take in carbon dioxide, and with less of them, carbon dioxide levels go up, which is another factor to global warming. I will also list some effects of global warming. The first is rise in sea levels world-wide. This can cause major flooding in coastal regions of many countries. The next effect is more major sever storms. They have increased since 1981 and can also devastate coastal regions. The next major reason is massive crop failures. This can effect farmers worldwide. The last effect is the widespread extinction of species. Global warming can extinct any kind of species, especially polar bears.

The celestial object that I am chosing to do is called Kepler-21b. Kepler-21b is a planet that is interesting because it is near or almost the same size as the Earth. Kepler-21b has a sun that is just a bit bigger than ours and is only 6 million kilometers(3.7 million miles) away from it. With them being that close to each other, Kepler-21b is a scorching 2960 degrees fahrenheit. While its mass is about 10 times the size of our planet, its radius is only 1.6 times the size of Earth's. It was discovered today (Wednesday 12-1-11) by the National Optical Observatory. Kelper-21b is also only about 352 light years away from Earth. I found this was very interesting because we usually find planets that are much bigger, but now there's a planet that is almost the same size as us. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/11/30/kepler-21b-new-planet-discovered_n_1121938.html#undefined
