Welcome to Mr. Ullrich's Blog! This blog is for 8th Grade Earth Science and Physical Science students. We will learn topics such as Astronomy, Geology and Meteorology. This blog will give us a place to discuss, learn and develop these topics during the year. If you are not from our class please post lots of comments!

I think that we are causing global warming and it is something that is taking place. I believe this for a few reasons. First, Jeffrey D Sachs says that our technology improvement will not slow down the carbon dioxide increase in the atmosphere. Also in arguments, there is a myth that climate is always changing no matter how long it takes to change. But, science says that climate will change when it is forced to change by something. I believe we are that driving force. Also, a website says that the temperature of oceans is rising and the levels of the ocean are rising. This is a result of the ice melting because of the release of greenhouse gases.

If there is one thing that I could explore in space, it would be a Supermassive Black Hole. I chose this because these things are insane. They could rip apart a star (depending on the star size) in a matter of seconds!
Basically, they are the largest type of Black hole that is known. Almost every galaxy that is known to man is said to contain a supermassive black hole in its center. For the Milky Way, our supermassive black hole is said to have a force of gravity that is so strong that the planets or stars that orbit the black hole travel at the speed of light! I've never really heard of something like this in my life before.
This was disovered because we orbit around the sun which is the center of our solar system. Our solar system orbits the center of the galaxy which has to be something so strong and massive to have objects billions of miles away to orbit it.
To find the distance of the nearest supermassive black hole from Earth, we would have to calculate the distance of Earth from the center of the galaxy. We are about 25,000 light years away from the center which is probably trillions and even more miles.

Hello! My name is Andrew. I'm so excited for this year in our Earth Science class! In the past, I was never really a "science kid." My favorite sport is Basketball and my second favorite sport is Baseball. If you really know me, than you know that the one thing on Earth that I emphasize the most is my culture! I'm 50% German, 25% Italian and 25% Latvian but there are a few othere things in there as well. Also, my favorite band in the world is Coldplay. Whenever I have free time, the first thing I do is listen to their music. When it is necessary, I am a very studius person and try to do my best in school. Anyway, thanks for reading=http://

About the Blogger
Hey! My name is Andrew. My favorite subject is either Math or Social Studies. My favorite sport is basketball and my second favorite one is baseball. Also, I like the band Coldplay. Whenever I have free time, I sit and listen to their music. I emphasize a lot about my heritage because I am German. I play the Alto Saxophone and I am in the school band.
