Force of Friction .

Article posted May 16, 2012 at 03:33 PM GMT • comment • Reads 700

What I know about Friction & Force ; When we were using the block and the Spring scale the Wide side had the most Friction , So I believe that wide sides have most Friction, The Shortest side was after the Wide side and then the the Long side.
6.1 - I learned Different Surface types have different amounts of Friction . And I learned more mass something has the more Friction it has.
2- We used Spring scales to weigh a Wood block .
3- I learned there are 3 different Variables and I learned to make sure you know which one is which , Because they get confusing.

Week 8 Challenge .

Article posted May 7, 2012 at 03:30 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1033

I believe that we should be able to text in class , Because my mom's cellphone number is long distance so I can't use the school phone to call her and it might be the same for other people. Also , We should be able to text if were done working . But if people are using their phones when their not supposed to be teachers could take them away or give them a warning ! So , I would enjoy being able to text or take pictures in class , That would be fun !

Energy .

1 - In the 1930's they didn't have everything we have now , They had electric cars and now we have cars that run on gas . They hardly used any energy at all .
2 - Well insulation can be heaters , air conditioning and all kinds of things but some heaters & Air conditioning have to be plugged in . But I'm pretty sure things that are plugged in take more energy .
3 - I learned to not put your fingers in sockets because I've done it and it hurts . Also , Some things will shock you if you don't plug them in or take them out right .
4 - Trees & Oil .

Charging a battery .

Article posted March 23, 2012 at 03:09 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1143

We had a experiment on charging a battery . First we tried a light bulb , We charged the battery for 3 minutes and the light bulb lit for about .. 10 minutes ? Then the next day we charged the dead battery for 3 minutes and attached it to a motor and the motor ran for 7 minutes . Since the motor didn't run as long as the bulb that means the motor uses more energy . Motors use mechanical energy & light bulbs use light and heat energy !

Article posted March 5, 2012 at 04:35 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1260

D.O is oxygen that dissolves into water . This years average is 8.3 which is good ! You measure D.O with a probe , you put the sensor in the water & it gives the the amount of D.O .

Turbidity
Turbidity is Based on how clean or dirty the water is , high turbidity can kill fish and fish start to abandon habitat and plants will die . Chimacum creeks average of turbidity is in the 30's .

Ammonia
Ammonia can be found in many cleaning products .Ammonia is a colorless gas & strong smelling . The formula of Ammonia is NH3, means it consists of one atom of nitrogen and three atoms of hydrogen .

Nitrates
Nitrogen is In the air ,and is a gas . It can cause a sickness called Methemogoblin . Plants can not use nitrates it's not good for them . N2 is 78% of air .

Flow rate
Flow rate is based on how fast or slow the water is going .Flow rate is measured by a probe with a propeler . Air flow rate is one other type of flow rate . Flow rates average is 1.3 cubic meters per second which is good .

Temperature
temperature is very important to water , if its to cold or to warm fish can die. It takes longer for deeper water to heat up because there is more water . In the summer if the temperature doesnt get over 50 degrees ferenheit then the fish will be fine .

Ph
Ph is Positive Hydrogen , Which is H2O . Ph ranges from 0-14 , 0-6 is Acidic , 7 is Basic (well, 7 is pure H2O, or water, and above 7 all the way to 14 is basic and alkaline because they mean the same thing. - From Mr. G) , And 8-14 is Alkaline ,Human blood is basic so about a 7.3 or 7.5 .
