Finally a Teenager (revised nonfiction piece) I was born on June 18, 1998. On June 17, 2011 I had one of the coolest birthdays ever. For my birthday, my sisters had secretly been trying to get my mom to bring my friend Liam and me to Blue Bayou the coolest water park in Louisiana. My mom ok’d the party and decided that Liam could spend the night being he only lives 2 blocks over.

My mom and I left the house at around 8:00. We were covered in sunscreen and ready to ride some water slides. We picked up Liam, “Man I am some pumped for today. Can you run the plan by me again?” he said enthusiastically. “Don’t worry it is going to be awesome,” I reply. It was a long drive to the other side of town, mostly silent with miscellaneous music in the background. As we were driving up to the park, Liam and I noticed the biggest, fastest, and scariest ride in the whole park, the Hot Shot. It was an almost 200 foot tall ride that you could almost see to mid-city from the top of it. “That’s our goal for the day, ride every water ride plus the Hot Shot,” Liam exclaimed! We pulled up, hopped out, and got in line waiting to get in to the best water park in Louisiana.

We waltzed into the water park and prepared for one of the most fun days of my life. We headed to the front of the herd of people. Allowing the lifeguards to get to their post, we were at the front of the pack with almost 100 people following close behind. The lifeguard turned around and whispered something to a guy in a snazzy suit. The suit and the lifeguard blew her whistle. Liam and I speed-walked all the way to Voodoo, a bowl ride that’s similar to a disco. We climbed to the top of the steps and were first in line. Normally the wait for this line is an hour, but we got to the top in 15 seconds. We rode the ride, got out and power-walked all the way to the Azuka, a cone ride that is one of the most popular because you can see the interstate from the top. It is a cone that you go down in a raft with 4 people. We got off whooping and hollering and decided to ride it again, and again, and again. It was only 10:30 and we had been on the most popular rides over and over and over.

We rode some more, less memorable but still fun rides. At around lunch, we ran into my friend Brennan; he goes to Blue Bayou a lot so he knows all the secrets. One of Brennan’s secrets makes the Terrible Twosome a blast. If you ride the Terrible Twosome you can hang off the back of the raft by holding just the handles and letting your legs dangle. It makes a baby ride more fun! We rode the Terrible Twosome almost 10 times rotating who would try to hang off the back.

The moment of truth, The Hot Shot, Brennan agreed that he would ride it with us but only if he rode at the same time. We stood in line silently and only talking to ask each other how many people were in front of us to make sure we all could sit together. Finally at the front of the line, the guard let us in and we all got a seat together and then we soared all the way to the top of the ride. I screamed so loud I thought my voice box would pop out. The operator slowly let us back down and we got off said goodbye to Brennan and headed to the front to leave with my mom. We briefed my mom about our super, cool day and headed back to my house to spend the night. We ordered a pizza and went to bed after a long, fun, and tiring birthday.
