This week’s blog comes from one of our own students – Brandon M. We have learned about many of New York’s official things. Like the official muffin. This week’s blog is about picking your favorite thing about our state. Take a look at http://www.enchantedlearning.com/usa/states/newyork/. There is a list of fun facts about New York. Choose one that is your favorite or most interesting to you. You also have to write why that’s your favorite thing. If you have more than one, go ahead and write it. Then write what would you change and why. If you think there are should be no changes then write why. Then as a challenge you can change the name of any of the 5 boroughs.
Make sure that you triple-check your blog and your comments for proper capitalization, grammar, punctuation and spelling!

My favorite fact is that the state flower is the rose! I wouldn’t change it because history is awesome and if someone changed it, it wouldn’t be history. The five boroughs are Staten Island, Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn and Bronx!

I think that it is interesting that the state fruit is an apple. Every year we go upstate to pick apples. There are so many different types and it is fun to taste them right from the tree. My favorite apple is the empire- just like new York's nickname- The Empire State. If I could change one borough's name it would be to change Manhattan to Subway Town.

The most interesting thing to me is the Origin of the name of New York.It is interesting to me because I want to learn how did the English took over New Netherland and renamed it New York.I think there should be no changes because I don't think it is important to change it.

I think having the apple as the ste frut is cool because I love apples ! I like too have things that I like repersenting our state! ! Also I like the state bug because I love lady bugs=http://=http://=http://=http://=http://=http://!!

A state thing i love is the state flower,I think its wonderful how it is.That's like my favorite state thing and it is obveious to my parents cause I love flowers.If I were to change the 5 boroughs names i'd change "Brooklyn" as it is,"Manhatten" Most Visited,"Queens" as it is,"Bronx" as it is too, and "Staten island" to My Island.
And something not about the blog i"m writing about Braandon's name is spelled wrong it says Brqndon.

Iwoulld choose the state's nickname because we're the empire state, so we are the empire just like the kingdom! (star Wars!!!) Then I would change the state nickname into "the empire of the new Englands!!" Yes, we live in the New Englands. For my final challenge I will name my bouroughs: Queens(Ms. Thomas!), Manhatten, Brooklyn(Robert Kimmel Snith, baby!!!), Staten Island, and the Bronx(Go Yankees!).

My favorite fact was the state gem. It is my favorite thing because it reminds me that we have freedom. I would change it to the diamond because NY is such a good state.

I think the state everything is cool!This is my favorite thing because it is fun to know that ther are state things. Because if your favorite fruit is an apple you can figure out that the state fruit is an apple too! And that is prety cool! If I were to change something it would be "The statefish". I think it should be salmon.

The state has fun thing. My favorite thing is the state animal the bever . It is my favorite thing because you won't think a bever would be the state animal. I would change the state tree. It is a sugar maple. But I like The maple tree because you get sap from it. But then we don't have mapple trees. So maby it not the best idea.

The most interesting thing to me is the state song I love New York.Its my favorite because there are music and they tell that you should love New York.I think there should be no changes.I would change Queens to Kings and I would change Brooklyn to Brichlin and I would change Manhattan to Grand Island and I would change staten Island to stat island and I would change the bronx into the kings.

My favorite part about NY is that there is so many interesting places to go like NYC, Montauk, Cooperstown, Albany, etc...
I picked that reason because NYC is so famous, the baseball hall of fame is in Cooperstown, Montauk has a light house, and NY has an island to go with it.

New York's official flag was adopted in 1901 because it tells you when it came about. I would change the flag to have the day that it was made on the top and sides because it could show when it was made.

My favorite things about N.Y. are ... The state nickname:The Empire State,because it sounds really cool and is named after one of my favorite buildings. The state fruit:The Apple,because it happens to be my favorite fruit. The state insect: The Ladybug,because if you touch one you have good luck. The state flower:The Rose,because its really beautiful & symbolizes peace. Those are my favorite things about N.Y.

My favorite symbol in NY is the the state shell called the Bay Scallop.This intesting to me because.when I go to the beach I collect shells.I don't know the names of them but there are many different kinds.What's your favorite symbol?

My favorite thing about our state is that New York City is the biggest city in the state. I’ve been to NYC a lot of times. I’ve been to restaurants, Empire Building State and Broadway theaters. I don’t want to change anything about NYC because it is already great. No change will make it better.
If I could change the name of one of the boroughs I would change Queens to Kings. It sounds more manly.
