Signature Hunt!
One day, my dad told us we were going to Paris. I was not excited because I didn’t know anything about Paris. I was thinking it might be boring. Then I overheard my mom and dad talking and saying that we were going to Euro Disney. I rushed and packed my bag.
We were finally at Euro Disney! We had to go straight onto the rides because the room wasn’t ready. We had fun. The next day, we went on a signature hunt. I wanted to find as many Disney characters as possible to get their signatures. It was a rainy day with a bit of sunshine. Just then there was a parade, which meant I couldn’t get any signature so I felt a bit sad. That day I only got 5 or 6 signatures.
The next day at breakfast, I had my signature book with me. I didn’t know that some of the characters would be there, but they were. They were the ones that I liked the most and I got their signatures. I was very happy. It was a good start to the day. The rest of the day as I walked around I saw many characters and got lots of signatures. After lunch, there was a big queue in the lobby to take pictures with Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Pluto, and others.
I collected about 35 signatures. I was so thankful that my family had taken me to Euro Disney and I’d had such a good time, even with my sister.

Disneyland
One early morning, my family and I went to Disneyland in Paris. I was kind of excited because my aunty was also coming. We got into a taxi and went to meet her.
When we got there, we went on a lot of rides like Nemo, Aladdin, and Pirates of the Caribbean. My favorite ride was the one called, “It’s a Small World After All” because when I was a baby I went on that ride. It brought back lots of good memories. It made me feel like I was a baby again. I was very happy and smiling the whole time.
We stayed at Disneyland for eight days and every day I rode on that special ride.

The Laughing Dizzy Day
One day I was going to Dreamland. That place was so nice because they have a lot of fun rides. I was very happy because my family was going with me and we were was going there at 2:30 and leaving at 4 o’clock.
After a freezing ride in the car because dad put the a/c on too high, finally we got there. I was so excited! I couldn’t wait to get inside. All the rides looked so good that it was hard to decide which one to go on first. I chose an amazing ride that was very fast. I went with my sister, Celine. When it was speeding up I kept getting pushed against my sister, then back to my side, then back against Celine. We started laughing so much. When we were up the top of the ride, we looked down and saw my brother. He was making funny faces at us and we laughed again.
When we finished we were so dizzy. The ride had been going in circles very fast. It was kind of hard to walk. My brother took my sister’s hand and mine and guided us where we needed to go. It was a really fun day.

Dog Fight
One day we went to the beach with our dogs Toby and Shadow. We saw another dog there. It was a huge German shepherd and I was scared that it would bite Shadow. We called Shadow to hold her while we asked the man if his dog would bite. He said, “No, she’s a girl and it will be OK.” We let her go. She ran to the dog and played with it.
Then the man asked us if the two dogs could play fetch together. We said, “Yes.” He picked up a stick and threw it in the water. The dogs ran so fast that you couldn’t see them. Shadow got the stick before the other dog. The other dog’s face turned mean. She started making low growling noises. Shadow gave the stick back to the man. He threw it again. They ran even faster. At first it looked like Shadow was going to get it, but they both got it right at the same time. Shadow caught it from one side and the other dog from the other side. Shadow pulled really hard, but it didn’t work, she didn’t get the stick. She began shaking her head and growling, I knew she was getting really angry. I wanted to go and grab Shadow away, but my mom said I couldn’t. It’s very dangerous to go between two dogs that are fighting. I felt so scared because I thought that Shadow was going to get hurt. Just then, as the other dog was chewing on the stick, she pulled and it didn’t come out.
Suddenly, Shadow let go of the stick, stepped back, and barked really loudly, “WOOF!” It was so loud that the dog got scared and let go of the stick. Shadow won!

Buzz Lightyear Rocks!
When I was 4 years old I had a trip to Paris. One afternoon I went to Disneyland. When I was there, in front of me there were lots and lots of rides. I was too short to go on some of them, also too scared, I mean, I was only four years old! Of course, I would be scared of something. I went on some rides and saw some shows but the ride I really wanted to go on was the Buzz Lightyear ride.
I loved Buzz Lightyear at the time. There were lots of rides but the Buzz Lightyear ride was sticking out in the middle above all of them. When it opened I begged my mom to go on the ride. Of course she said, “Yes.” When I entered I was so happy. They gave us fake laser guns. The ride was indoors. It was kind of dark and you could see all the red laser lights glowing. The cart we were riding on went slowly so that we could shoot the cardboard aliens. I was so glad every time I hit an alien. I said, “Mommy, Mommy! I hit one, I hit an alien!” When I hit the boss robot I shouted, “MOMMY, LOOK! I HIT THE BOSS!”
At the end of the ride a camera took a picture of us. We stayed till Disneyland closed. That was one of the best times I ever had in my life. It will always be a special memory.

Going to the Mountains
My dad and I decided to go to the mountains, just me and him. When we arrived there, we took the climbing stuff from the car and started to climb. The higher we went up on the mountain the wind got stronger and stronger.
When we were nearly at the top, we settled down on a big rock. When we opened the backpack to get our lunch out, the cheese flew away! I ran after it and I caught it. My dad told me, “Good job.” We started to put all the food out on the big rock. We put smaller rocks on top of them so that they wouldn’t fly away. Dad took the knife and began cutting the cheese up. Dad and I were hungry because of the climbing. While we ate, dad and I chatted. There were birds all around us and we could hear them singing. I felt so happy to be there with my dad and the birds. I was enjoying being in nature with no cars and noises.
When we were done, we climbed till the top of the mountain and then went back down to the car.
I was so happy to be just me and my dad alone.

Seeing a Whale
We were on the boat in Italy and getting ready to go and swim. The boat was moving slowly and we were still standing at the top. Suddenly I heard my sister shout, “Whale, look over there!”
I was standing with my dad and we saw the whale. It was going back down into the water. I was feeling nervous and surprised because I didn’t think that there were whales in Italy. The captain saw it too and decided to follow it slowly. The whale started turning around and around. We stayed straight following it. It went a bit away from our boat and a man came along and started trying to swim with it. I wondered what he was doing. I thought it must be dangerous to swim with a whale because it is so big, even though this one was a small whale. The man grabbed onto the whale and it started to swim away from him. It was swimming really fast.
The whale went away and so did we. I will never forget this moment.

Going to Sam’s House With Ryan
One day last June, Ryan and I went to play at Sam’s house after the Celebration Day at school. When we got there, we started to play with his three bikes under his building. When we were done we went up in the elevator to his house. We played with some plastic guns and then watched Diary of a Wimpy Kid 1.
We went back down to play soccer. I wanted to play with Sam, but he wanted Ryan. I was the goalie and I was really good so they didn’t beat me. We changed teams and then me and Sam were against Ryan. I told Sam, “I’ll shoot one goal and then you shoot the next one.” We scored three goals. I was happy. Ryan didn’t care about the score. Then Sam said we should see who could reach the highest up on the wall. Ryan went first, then Sam, then it was my turn. I ran at the wall, jumped up and hit my stomach. I didn’t reach up very high because it hurt.
We went back upstairs to finish watching the movie and Sam’s grandmother cooked us some food. It was an exciting day.

I Survived the Dragon Fury!
It was finally my turn on the ride, Dragon Fury. I felt a shiver of excitement as I climbed into the cart. We zoomed along and the wind was howling against my face as we spun around the track. We sped downhill and turned constantly, nearly touching the ground.
The next turn was a very sharp one. I slid across the seat and ended up pushed against the side of the cart. My fingers were shivering as I gripped onto the black, leather rail. I was just hanging on, my bottom wasn’t even on the seat anymore! My heart was pounding against my chest. I was really scared. As my grip was loosening, it was just my luck that we turned that corner and I flew back into my seat.
We twisted and turned as we continued on the ride. Then we stopped. I’d survived the Dragon Fury. I wanted to go on it again!

The Soccer Dress!
On Saturday I was going to a soccer match which started at 9:00. It was my first practice and I was feeling nervous and excited at the same time. I was looking forward to seeing the other people on my team. When it was almost 9:00, I put on my new jersey, my shorts, my socks, and my shoes. I was happy to have a new jersey and eager to see what it looked like on. I observed my jersey and shorts in the mirror. Suddenly, I saw my jersey covering most of my shorts; it was a big problem! I looked like I was wearing a dress.
When my Dad came I told him, “Dad, my jersey is covering most of my shorts, they look like pajamas!” “It’s OK, nobody will notice” my dad replied. He thought that when I was running my shirt would be flying and it would be OK. I disagreed. We tried everything we could do to make it shorter. We folded it, we tucked it in, I raised it up a bit; but nothing worked. Luckily, my nanny found a solution. She put safety pins to raise my shirt. I checked in the mirror another time and was comforted by what I saw. All of this had taken a really long time to sort out.
When Dad and I went into the car I checked my watch. “Oh my God, we’re already late!” I exclaimed. “It’s probably because you’ve been nagging all the time.” he muttered. “Hey!” I replied. I was mad. He didn’t understand how important it was to me and how everyone would have laughed.
When we got to the field I saw my team jogging, so I joined them. I wasn’t so late in the end. I felt kind of relieved.

Going to Roadster’s
When me and my mom went to Roadster’s in Hamra we were so hungry and tired. We went in, found a table, and sat down waiting for the menu. When the menu came I ordered chicken strips and my mom ordered salad.
As I looked across at my mom I was smiling and almost giggling. My mom smiled back. This time it was only me and mom, we had left my two brothers and dad behind. It felt so good to have freedom from my brothers and have my mom all to myself. My brothers always take time away from my mom because they are younger. When the food came, we started to chat and eat. Chat, eat, and talk about doing this again.
When we finished we paid $56 and then we went home in my mom’s Audi (by the way, that’s a kind of car). We had such a good time that we decided to do this every month.

The Family Swimming Race
One day, when my dad and I were swimming under the hot sun, we decided to have a swimming race. It’s a good thing all the family were there playing with each other.
We didn’t want to disturb anybody, so dad and I made posters. We put the finished posters in different places where they were playing. We put a sign-up sheet next to the pool. They read the posters, signed the paper, and all participated except my grandmother who is too old so she was the ref.
I had a smile of excitement on my face as we began the race. I was watching all the older people in front of me and was scared that they would win the prize. When my grandma started counting down for us to start I ignored them and focused on the water. But I got even more nervous! We were all squashed together in the pool so, because I’m small, I was able to swim between the gaps. I got near to the front, but my brother was ahead of me by about 2 feet. Suddenly, I saw my little cousin drowning. I grabbed him, put him on the side, and continued the race.
My brother won and I came second. I was very happy for my brother.

The Amazing Trap
One day, my dad asked me to go down to the basement to get his tool box. When I got there, it was dark. I was about to turn on the light when I saw a pink nose and a long tail scurrying in a zigzag around the room. I flicked the light on. A rat! I’d never seen one before, I was kind of scared. I ran back upstairs.
The next day, my mom was scared but my dad wasn’t, so we went back down to the basement. All we put was a mouse trap, and it didn’t work. I decided to invent a trap. I put a dozen mouse traps beside my trap. My trap was a rope tied to cheese with a bug catching net and a wooden plank with metal sticking up from it. First, I put the wood then I balanced the net on the metal. My dad helped me with the dangerous things like drilling the metal into the wood. I wasn’t sure it was going to work so I took the mouse traps and surrounded my trap. At the front I formed a little entrance. I stood back and took a look. I felt tired but happy and hopeful at the same time. I left it there.
In the middle of the night I heard a snap, but I was too tired to get up and see what had happened. The next morning, I went back downstairs and the rat was caught! It had worked! I was amazed that my trap had worked. I ran back upstairs but this time yelling, “I caught it, I caught it, I caught it!” My dad and mom were relieved, and so was I.

Call of Duty – Black Ops
When we arrived at my dad’s mom we ate lunch. We asked my dad’s brother, “Can we play Call of Duty on Playstation 3?” “Please!” I said. “Yes, Abed.” Replied Marwan.
I turned on the PS3 and put Call of Duty in. We started the game. I was player 1 and Omar was player 2. I took a gun and a bazooka and Omar took the same things. I changed the gun in my hand for the bazooka that was on my back. I shot Omar’s guy with my exploding bazooka. Omar told Marwan, “Your turn.” Marwan took the PS3 remote and played. He beat me forty times in a row. He beat me one more time and it was forty-one times. Then, Marwan’s guy died because I shot him with my exploding bazooka. Marwan’s guy went upstairs and aimed but I was hidden behind a barrel so he didn’t see me and I shot him!
I laughed but time was up. Marwan won, I lost. We retried it again and again and again. I managed to beat him about 5 times.

Catching my First Fish
I really wanted to go fishing. So, one day, my dad organized it with his friend and we went. In the car I got so bored. As soon as we got there I couldn’t wait to begin fishing with my dad and his friend.
We got the rods and stuff from the car. My dad’s friend set up the rods and reels, they were all messed up. I put the bait on the hook and cast it into the river. I waited, and waited, and waited, but… I caught nothing. My dad’s friend called me. I ran over to him and saw that he was catching a fish. I tried to help but the fish escaped. I went back to my pole. There was something pulling it. I thought, “Yay, yay! I’m finally going to catch my first fish.” I pulled back, but it was water plants. “Oh, God! It’s just plants.” I muttered to myself. I was so mad!
Then my dad’s friend called me again. I ran and it was another fish. I was helping him but the fish swam away, AGAIN! I waited for one hour, two hours, three hours, four hours, five hours, then he called me again. This time I walked over. He told me to hold the pole. There was something pulling. It was a fish. We pulled together, harder and harder. We caught it! I yelled over to my dad and told him that we’d caught a fish. He told me to pick it up, but I didn’t want to so I poked it with a stick instead.
When we went home my mom cooked the fish. Everyone ate some of it except for me.

Scary, Black Hole!
One day, my mom said, “Do you want to go to Waves with your cousins?” I was excited, “Yay! Okay.” We quickly got ready and left in the car. It took a long time to get to Waves but finally we arrived and met my cousins.
We played on a small slide altogether. Then we moved to sit near the wave pool. When we went in to swim my mom got so worried. She kept coming down to the edge and shouting at me and my older cousin. She didn’t want us to swim without tubes. I heard her but said I was having too much fun to come out.
After that, we decided to go to the big slides. I was so scared, especially of the big, dark one because it was closed and was all dark. You couldn’t see anything. It was called The Black Hole. My mom was too scared to go on it. I decide to go with my mom’s friend’s daughter. I was going to go on the front of the tube so that I could hold onto her legs. It was our turn and I got so scared. As we went down through the black tube I was screaming so loudly, I couldn’t handle it.
When we finally reached the end I wanted to do it again, it was so much fun. But, my mom said we had to go and didn’t have time. I was so disappointed that I started to cry when I got dressed.

Swim Day
I was so happy to go to AUB pool without my water wings. Then, my sister said I have to stay close to the edge of the pool.
I ran to my dad’s bedroom and told him what Leyla said. We argued about it for a long time. I told my dad that now I’d taken swimming lessons I felt confident to be able to swim in the pool. I was excited to try. Even my mum came and calmly told me that I have to stay near the edge. Then, my mum went and spoke to my sister. Leyla told her that she wanted to swim alone in the middle of the pool and not have to worry about watching out for me. Dad reminded us that we were losing time at the pool. I knew he was right and that I had to stay near the edge, I just didn’t want to admit it.
We walked a few minutes from our house to the pool. We passed the candy machine, but dad wouldn’t let me have any. You guessed it, when we got to the pool I had to stay near to the edge. All because of my annoying sister!

The Broken Pinky
The Broken Pinky
Once I was playing tether ball at recess. I was having a really good day and playing well for the beginning of September. I was playing against someone, but I can’t remember who, and I beat him. Then, I was playing against Ahmad.
I knew this match was going to be tougher because Ahmad is a sort of medium tether ball player. I was hitting the ball so hard, but then I thought there was something on my head. I kept having to touch my hair while I was playing. This made it really hard to play well. Then I stopped touching my head and began playing hard. I gave the ball one big hit and heard Ahmad say, “You broke my pinky!” He got angry and hit the ball. I hit the ball back with my fists.
After about 2 minutes I beat him. It was a good match.

Going to Fossil Mountain
One day in the holiday my family and my friends went to a place in the mountains where there are fossils. I looked for a fish fossil and I saw very many of them. I also saw fossils of shells and even baby sharks. I took my fish fossil home with me.
When we finished looking, we went to a sea food restaurant. There was Arabic food and it was very yummy. Then we went back home and my friend, too. It was a very good day and we had lots of fun.

The Motorcycle Accident
One sunny day my dad and I were going to TSC Supermarket. We were on my dad’s medium-sized, gray motorcycle. We were going really fast, maybe 120km per hour! Suddenly, there was a puddle on the floor in front of us. We slipped and the motorcycle fell on the side. We skidded onto the road.
I fainted. The next thing I can remember was my mom poking me. My arm was really painful and I could feel liquid on it. When I looked it was covered in blood. My dad was hurt, too, so we both went to the hospital.
When we got to the hospital they put something on my finger. It was blue and they taped it on. There was a wire going to a box. It gave my heartbeat and whether or not I was ready to go home. They cleaned up my arm. It felt more painful that when I’d fallen off the motorcycle.
After a couple of weeks I went to school, I was in KG1. My friends kept on asking me why my arm was kind of brown. I felt really shy. I just said, “Because.” and tried to cover it up. They didn’t stop, they just kept on asking me again and again. Finally, I couldn’t take it anymore. I told them why and then they stopped asking. I should have told them in the first place because then they wouldn’t have annoyed me as much.

A Rainbow of Fish in Dubai
I was going to Dubai at 7 in the morning. We got to the airport on time. Then we had to wait for the plane for 5 hours because it had to take some other people to a different country. I don’t know where it had to go.
We finally took off and got to Dubai in 3 hours. We went to the hotel. Soon after we arrived we went to a place called Fish. We got into a boat that had a special glass bottom. We could see a lot of fish. I saw a shark. I asked the man why the sharks weren’t eating the fish. He said because they feed them every day and they don’t get hungry.
When we got out we were looking around and we saw a tunnel. We went inside. All the fish were everywhere. You couldn’t see anything except fish and divers. I felt like the divers were also fish! The fish were all different sizes and colors. It was like a rainbow of fish. When we came out we went to a bridge. It was hard to pass over because it moved a lot.
When we went home I told my dad, “I want to go again, every year!” He said, “Maybe every two years.”

The Day I Learned a Lesson
Once, when I was living in Egypt, me and my best friend Lina’s family were in the desert. We stayed there till night time. I said, “Why not camp?” They agreed, “Yes!” We got the tents and opened them up. Then we went exploring around the desert. We were so tired that we went back to our tents and went to sleep.
A few minutes later, I heard rustling sounds in the sand. Then barking – WILD DOGS, dom, dom ,dom, dom!! AAAAghhhhh! I felt so worried and scared. Lina and I knew we had to wake up her parents. We were trembling with fear. It was really annoying because her dad snored a lot. That’s why it was hard to wake him up. When they got up, we packed our stuff, quickly ran out of our tents, got in the jeep, and drove away.
When we got home, we slept in a much more comfortable bed. I was so tired that I slept in a second. All I dreamed about was to never, ever go camping again! I learned a lesson, I should have listened to my mom in the first place because she didn’t want me to go.
