That week was very special for Catalan students, we did some activities in Caldes and Barcelona. Thursday afternoon the Dutch students went into town for a walk aroud the city centre. The atmosphere is very good as well as the weather! we met each other at 8 o´clock at school. On the second day we came together in the ´auditorium´ of the school Manolo Hugué to get an explanation about the programme. We also saw the ‘lip-dub´ that was made by the Dutch students in Naaldwijk.
After they had spent the weekend with their hostfamilies, our students today had to get up early for another day in Barcelona. At 8 o'clock, the bus was waiting for us to take us to the city. First we visited the beautiful Parc Guell that was designed by the famous architect Antoni Gaudi. After that we went to see to big church Sagrada Familia, also a work of Gaudi. They have been working at this church for 100 years now, but it still isn't ready! The students were impressed by the beautiful interior of the Sagrada Familia and the interesting explanation the guide gave us. In the afternoon we went to Camp Nou (Barca stadium) to visit this enormous building and the museum with all the prices the team has won in the past. At the end the students could buy all kind of FC Barcelona things in the special shop.
After the bus had brought us back to Caldes, there was a warm welcome for us at the school where we got something to drink and eat. It was our last activity with the group, because the students will spend the evening with their hostfamilies again and tomorrow the bus will pick us up at 6.45 AM to bring us to the airport. This was the last day of the exchange!

Last month twenty students of IES MANOLO HUGUÉ 3er ESO went to Naaldwijk, Holland. When we arrived, we went to house of the girl or the boy of the exchange, and we had dinner with him or her. The family eats before. We arrived at seven o’clock, in Holland the horary of eat is very different, they have lunch at twelve and here we have it at a half past one or two. They had the dinner at six or a half past five, but they went to sleep at the same hour, and before sleeping they eat another time.
This exchange is a fascinating experience for us. We had friends for all the life. All the things what we lived with them are very funny, we will never forget it. TWe really liked going to visit the most important places: Naaldwijk, Delft, Amsterdam... and we like dvery much going to skate on ice. Look at some of us in Delft!!
The prices of things in Holland are very different from our town. In Holland all the things are very expensive. The families of the students welcomed us very well.
We are very happy of this exchange, we miss them now. We are looking forward to seeing them in our town!
At the moment we have a provisional programme for week 9th-15th May. Do you want to see it? Send a comment if you have any suggestion!

The time has arrived when we have to explain things about Catalonia, Caldes and our school. To do this you are going to work in groups of 4. Once you have your group, follow the steps below:
- Choose a topic
- Barcelona (modernism and Gaudi)
- Barcelona (Gothic, modern and other important artists -Miró, Picasso, etc)
- Catalan traditions and celebrations (typical food, castanyada, Sant Jordi, Nadal, etc)
- Caldes de Montbui (history, traditions and important monuments)
- INS Manolo Hugué and educational system
- Send a comment to this article with the members of your group and the topic you have chosen
- Look for information about your topic and photos to illustrate it
- Save your information in your word document.
- Display your information in a visual format like ppt, prezi, voicetrhead, etc.
- Rehearse to explain your project to the rest of the class and to the Dutch people!

When you finish, save it in your computer (T). Don't forget your photo!

Congratulations for your presentations!. Now, we know a lot of things about Holland and Amsterdam. Make sure you saved the information in your doc document.
I have good news: We have got the tickets!! We will leave on Tuesday, 13th March and will come back on Tuesday 20th March 2011. We will have the list of Dutch students very soon!
The quickest way to go to Amsterdam is by plane. Many of you have never travelled by plane or been to an airport. You should know a few things before getting on the plane.
Do you know the meaning of these words?? "check in", "departures", "flight", "arrivals", "gate", "crew", "delay". ..
To my students:
A. Write the meaning of the words above in a new article in your blog
B. Go to Randall's ESL Listening Lab and follow these steps:
1. Go to Listening quizzes for Academic Purposes, (difficult)
2. Click on "Airport announcement"
3. Do the pre-listening and listening exercises (Read Quiz Script, explanation of Answers and Text Completion Quiz)
4. Add 5 new words you have learnt in your article.
5. If you have time, do some more listening practice about flying: Go to General Listening Quizzes, easy and do the exercises on "Travel on Sky Airlines"

The Netherlands and Amsterdam

How many inhabitants does the Netherlands have?
Which is the largest national park in the Netherlands?
How many windmills are still working today?
Which city is the centre of the cheese trade?
What is the name of a famous Dutch painter born in Delft?
What is the title of his most famous painting?
Do tulips come originally from Holland?
How many bridges are there in Amsterdam? What are the opening hours of Van Gogh museum??
All these questions and many others can be answered using one of these two links:
To my students
1. Write an article about The Netherlands and/or Amsterdam. Go to one of these two links and choose 12/13 questions (you can also mix questions of the two documents). You wil find the answers using the links on the right of these two sites. When you have the answers, write a new chapter in your doc document, titled "The Netherlands and its capital, Amsterdam." You can add photos to illustrate your article. When the text is finished, paste it in a new entry in your blog.
2. Prepare an oral presentation with your findings. You must choose one topic and write a comment to this article to tell me what you are going to talk about. You can also choose one of the options at the end of the links above. You can use visual aids (photos, ppt, poster) to help you with your presentation.
You have three sessions to prepare your project. On the 8th of November you have to be ready for your oral presentation.
Before beginning the project make sure you have published all previous articles:
- about the exchange
- about who you are
- about Caldes town festival
- about Naalwijk

Naalwijk is a little town between the Hague and Delf, about 50 minutes from Amsterdam. There are many interesting things we can learn about his town: culture, weather, celebrations, sightseeing, etc.
TO MY STUDENTS
In this article you are going to write about Naaldwijk. First, look for information about this town! Then summarize it in this entry. Display some pictures to illustrate your information.

Caldes de Montbui is an interesting town, there are many things to visit and many cultural traditions. There is also a especial "festival" called "The Festa Major", which means something like "The main party", and it lasts for about 4 or 5 days.

To my students
Write about your town, Caldes de Montbui. Write about the interesting sites, about its culture and history and about its celebrations. You can also write about the "Festa Major", and insert some pictures so that the Dutch students can get an idea of what it is like.

In this group there are 20 students. At the moment there are 5 boys and 15 girls. One of this girls cannot go to Holland, so we might include another boy or another girl, (we will see if the school organization allows us to do it). These students work in pairs. Each pair has its blog (see the list on the right), and the students are publishing their work on their blogs. We would like this tool to be the way to exchange communication between our students and the Dutch students and teachers. We hope it works!.
There are two teachers in the group as well. Dolors, the coordinator of the project and teacher of English, and Marta, a science teacher who speaks English very well and likes participating in this kind of projects. We are looking forward to meeting the teachers and students of Naaldwijk and share this interesting experience.
TO MY STUDENTS :
Write your article about WHO YOU ARE, including a short description of your personality and physical appearance. You can also talk about your hobbies, family, friends, and whatever you want to publish. Some of you have already written this article. If so, write about your town and the town festival (festa major de Caldes).
Remember to bring a photo of you for the blog!!

Well, hello to everybody and welcome to this blog, a site to share information. This is the first message to introduce a new project. A project between two classes, between two countries, between two cultures. A class from the school in Caldes de Montbui (Barcelona, Spain) called "IES MANOLO HUGUE" is going to exchange information with a class from a school in Naadwijk (Holland). What information is going to be exchanged? What can the students involved be interested in? Taking into account that they are 14-15 years old... Perhaps we can let them talk and ask what they want to know about each other...
TO MY STUDENTS:
what do you expect from this project? Talk about your expectations, ambitions, fears, doubts...
