May Moments

We are nearing the end of another great year at Cambridge. Our podcasts about the fourth grade musical and our fourth grade book float parade have been posted on the Cambridge front page and also on our fourth grade webpage. Take a look at these. We had so much fun making these.

My students are currently writing their thoughts about their fourth grade year. I think we had an awesome year! Click on a student name to learn how he or she feels about the fourth grade. If you are an incoming fourth grader, this might ease your mind over the summer. Happy reading!

A Very Busy Month

Article posted April 5, 2007 at 04:38 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 388

Wow, April is a really busy month for us. We have those charming Texas state tests this month. We are so ready for them! We are totally prepared and psyched. We also have a musical this month. Our fourth graders are singing and dancing their way onto the stage on April 12th. Can you guess what we are doing? Here's a big clue....seventy six trombones led the big parade! We are also having a book character float parade. Look for that on our web page in a Photostory soon. Also, check out our podcast about force and motion. Click on the Radio Cambridge link on the left side of this page. Then, click on the link, "The Great Catapult Contest". Be sure to check out some interesting science articles that the students have reviewed by clicking on a student's name on this page. Enjoy your spring!

I have a dream

Article posted January 16, 2007 at 06:58 PM GMT0 • comment (4) • Reads 429

Our fourth grade classes conducted an experiment in which some students were labeled "red dots". They could not join in the activites and had to eat at separate tables and play on different equipment on the playground. Then we switched so that everyone experienced both sides of the issue. The students learned a great deal about how it felt to be labeled "different". Click on a student name and read his/her particular "take" on the situation.

Our Winter Breaks

Article posted January 10, 2007 at 05:04 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 213

We had fabulous Winter Breaks! We mainly rested and ATE lots of wonderful foods. When we returned to school, we wrote about our breaks. We tried to focus on specific incidents instead of writing a list of things that happened. We really focused on "Voice" in our writing. Read our stories and see if you can "hear" our individual voices.

Themes in Literature

Article posted October 24, 2006 at 09:32 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 208

We just finished reading Patricia Polacco presents....The Graves Family. The Graves family moves into an old house in the middle of the night. The very first thing they do is paint their house bloodred! Ghastly....They let giant spiders run freely through their house and they have a giant Venus Flytrap! The story revolves around the events that happen in the town as this new, very strange family tries to fit in. The central theme of the story is about how people are different, and that we can celebrate their differences. We had a great discussion in class about this idea. The students discussed their own differences and how we respect each other and value the things we can learn from other people. Click on a student name to read their interpretation of the story we read, and the beautiful message we received from ...The Graves Family.

Book Reviews

Article posted October 9, 2006 at 05:33 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 233

I have made the most pleasant discovery, one in which all teachers delight. I have discovered that I have a classroom full of readers. They LOVE to read books. Since one of my favorite past times is reading, the fact that I have a group of students who love to read thrills me! Currently we are reading aloud "The Lightening
Thief". We are totally engrossed in the book. We'll keep you posted on how it turns out. Click on the fourth grade names on the right column to read about some more of the exciting books the students are reading.
