Temple Of Apollo at Dephi

The Temple of Apollo was first built in the 6th B.C. After the deadly fire that burned down the temple, it was rebuilt by architects Trophonics and Agamedes. It was then called the “Temple of Alcmeonidae.” Once again, it was destroyed, but this time by an earthquake in 373 B.C. A third temple was built to similar proportions and size as the previous temple. Today, the temple’s foundation still survives today with several Doric columns made of porous stone and limestone (soft material) which allows for the temple’s advance decaying. Little is known about the temple’s interior arrangement.
The architecture was dedicated to the god Apollo (Zeus’s son, god of the sun, pottery, and music). Citizens around the area would come to the famous temple and ask Apollo questions that they needed answers to. It is said that a priestess (called the oracle of Delphi) went into a trance and the words she spoke were thought to come from the god, Apollo, himself. They asked Apollo questions about life because they wanted to please their gods and goddesses every day. They did whatever they could to please their gods and goddesses. The Greeks believed that their gods looked and often acted as humans but did not grow old or die.
The architecture is important to us because it teaches us a lot about Greek history. It teaches us that the Greeks took religion seriously because they built temples for their Gods and worshipped many gods and goddesses. They dedicated and built many temples for their gods. Also, it teaches us that the Greeks are hard working. The Greeks built the Temple of Apollo three times because they looked up to their gods and wanted them to have temples. They really cared and took worshipping seriously. Also they built their statues and everything else by hand. Back then, there were no machines- everything was hand made. This shows that the Greeks really cared about their things if they were willing to hand make all the temples.
Lastly, the Temple of Apollo has significance in history. The citizens of Greece traveled from all over to ask Apollo questions. The answers that the priestess gave to the citizens helped them make certain decisions. The Greeks tried to please their gods every day, and asking Apollo questions really helped them make their decisions. The Temple of Apollo was a really famous temple back then because a lot of citizens wanted a chance to talk to a god. It was a very important temple because it was rebuilt two times. The Temple of Apollo was a very important temple back then and it was taken very good care of and lots of people admired it.

The people of Greece made pottery during 1050-900 B.C.E. Pottery was used for holding items, such as goods. There were no such things as bags or plastic containers back then. They had to make these sort of things. Greeks often put rice, flour, and water in pottery bowls. They also made lids to cover the pottery bowls. Also, pottery was used for decoration. Greeks spent lots of time making their pottery perfect. They wanted to make them perfect and beautiful, so they would stand out in a crowd. Also, the Greeks liked to show off their pottery to the other people within their town. They made vases, urns, ornaments and vessels. (T.Q.) They made their pottery very detailed and elaborate. Greeks loved art, and thought of painting as the highest form of art. (C.L.) The people of Greece thought that art was a very important thing in their country, so they valued it.
The artifact is important to my friend and me because it represents the past. It tells us what people in Greece made at that time. It tells us how much effort they put into making their pottery. We learned that the people of Greece really loved pottery. Pottery was everywhere. It was in houses, markets, used as bowls and containers, and so much more. Also, Greek pottery is important because it tells lots of stories. Greeks, at that time, painted and carved important scenes on their bowls, plates, vases, urns, ornaments, and vessels. Scenes of battles, ceremonies, everyday life, traditional dances, and stories were painted and carved. Pictures of the Gods and Goddesses, kings and queens, soldiers, and more important people where painted on the pottery. My friend and I found Greek pottery to be very fascinating because every piece of pottery tells a story.
The significance that Greek pottery had in history was that it was an important part of trade. The Greeks spent all their free time making lots of beautiful pottery so that they could trade it for luxurious items and exotic raw materials. (M) They wanted their pottery to be very beautiful and perfect so that it would look like it was worth a lot, so that they could get lots of high valued items when they traded it. Also, the significance that it had was that it allowed people today to see how the Greeks lived. Today, we can look back at the pottery and get a sense of the Greek culture and how the people back then lived.
Overall, Greek pottery is very important today. First, the artifact was used for holding items, such as rice, water, and flour. Second, Greek pottery is important to my friend and me because it represents the past and each piece of pottery tells a story. Lastly, the significance that the artifact had was that it was used for trade and it allowed people today to sort of understand what the culture back then was. In conclusion, Greek pottery was an era in history because it allowed the Greek culture to be carried on into the 21st century.

New Year Resolutions

The tradition of making New Year resolutions started during the Babylonian times. It has been said that Julius Caesar started the tradition of making New Year resolutions on January First. Making resolutions was a way to honer "the Roman mythical god Janus, who's two faces allowed him to look back into the past year and foward to the new year." The Roman people mostly made their resolutions to seek forgiveness from their enemies.
My first resolution is to make my bed every day. Usually my mom makes my bed for me. If she sees me making my bed every day, she'll be very proud of me. :) My second resolution is to get better grades in Spanish. I don't get good grades in Spanish because I talk too much in class and I don't really learn a lot. My third resolution is meet my inspiration, the one and only, Justin Drew Bieber. I have been a Belieber (a HUGE Justin Bieber fan) since I've heard his song 'One Time' on the radio back in December '09. My room is filled with posters of him. I can't even see my walls anymore. I stalk him 24/7. I HAVE to meet him.
