water quality conclusion

Article posted February 28, 2012 at 04:11 PM GMT • comment • Reads 999

this is the pastyear of ph data of chimacum creek our creek got a pretty good score our average was 6.3

this is the past years of chimacum creeks data we also got a pretty good score.

The Average of DO was 9.16 this was a pretty good score.DO stand for dissolved oxygen.some ways to get oxygen in the water is when it is touched so the oxygen from the air compresses in the water.Without DO the fish would die.Or the fish wouldnt have enogh oxygen and the eggs would deform.

PH stands for postove hydrogins. Ph is a balance of posotive hydroxide ions (H+) and negative hydroxide ions(OH-). fish need to have a balance of Alkeline and acid.Thescale goes from 1-14 8 and up ois alkeline and 6 and below is acidic. To have a good PH is to have a balanceof acid and alkeline. Some fish can tolerate bad PH but if we want more non tolerant fish and bugs in our creek we need to balance our PH.

Tempature is very important in our creek. Fish need a good temature because they will omly lay eggs in the right temature. And if salmon dont lay eggs it will affect the whole food chain. Intolerant bugs and fish can take bad tepatures. But there are also very intolerant fish that need good tempatures to survive. The averaage tempature for chimacum creek was 38.2. This is a good tempature.

turbitity determines the clarity of water. Turbitity is caused by plankton, soil erosio, mining etc.the most accurate way to determine turbitiy is to use a turbidimeter. If the water is to cloudy agea grows. If to much algea grows it will take away the oxygen. If there is no oxygen the fish can't breath. The average for turbitity is 22.7. This is a good score.

Nitrates are not good. Nitrates can poision the fish and give them brown blood disease. Nitrates sometimes get into water by farmers fertalizer. Nitrates help water weeds and plankton grow that atract fish. This may inccrease the fish population . But the algae will grow and there will be little oxygen wich will cause fish to die. The average number of nitrates for chimacum creek is 0.3. This is a good score because the best score is 0.0.

Ammonia is used in strong cleaning liquids such as bleach. Ammonia is toxic to fish. When ammonia reaches 0.06 mg/L. Fish like trout and salmon start to die when ammonia levels reach 0.2 mg/L. We didn't get the correct average for ammonia this year but the average for the past years data is .8 wich is an ok result.

my recomendations to keep chimacum creek healthy areto contain fertalizers, and don't litter.

Some of the bugs I saw at chimacum creek are benthic macroinvertebrates wich is good because those are some of the intolerant bugs

thanks for reading i hope you liked it!!

Snow creek!!

Article posted January 27, 2012 at 04:00 PM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 1146

We recently went on a field trip to snow creek and we planted trees for the fish and wildlife people it was really fun. First we went down a hill and we started to walk overcome small creeks it was kind of scary because the bridge was slippery then we had to walk over snow creek over a salmon grade and the water was really high so then we went to the field and the guy told us how to plant the trees and shrubs first we dug a hole about 6 or 7 inches deep then we have to hold the tree about an inch over the bottom of the hole then we filled in the dirt around it and patted it down and did that to the rest of the trees and shrubs and we planted all the rest of their trees and shrubs I really liked it that is my tree plNting experience

Yellow jacket creek and chimicum creek

Article posted November 4, 2011 at 04:12 PM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 1839

When we went to a camp called cispus with our school we went on a hike to yellow jacket creek so we took a little score sheet with types of bugs tolerant not so tolerant and intolerant to pollution so the more tolerant the less the score then in the end you add them all up and you get a bug score and the score for yellow jacket creek was 25 points chimicum creek was not as healthy as yellow jacket creek it was only 20 points well according to our period

The fish and wild life took a study called a Bibby and had to count every single bug in the creek are score didn't come out great but are creek goes through alot of different types of land like farm land that sprays pesticide and manour and it goes under a bridge and through towns so it has lots of types of pollution exposed to it. Thanks for reading.

Water pollution

Article posted October 14, 2011 at 04:36 PM GMT • comment • Reads 2034

this blog is about water pollution and the causes and ffects and types i will have sevral paragraphs about diffrent information on water pollution i hope you enjoy.

Water pollution can come from a number of different sources. If the pollution comes from a single source such as an oil spill it is called point source pollution if the pollution comes from many sources it is called a non point-source pollution Surface water can be polluted in a number of ways and this is called surface water pollution .Oxygen depelting:microorganisms that pigeon water feed on bio degradable substances. When to much biodegradable material is added to water, the number of microorganisms increase and use up the available oxygen. This is called oxygen depeltion.Ground water pollution:alot of earths water is found underground in soil or under rock structures called aquifers.Humans usually use aquifers as means to obtain drinking water and build wells to acess it when this water becomes polluted it is called ground water pollution.Ground water pollution is often caused by pesticide contamination from the soil this can infect our drinking water andc ause huge problems.Nutrients and there effects on water:nutrients are essential for plant growth and development.many nutrients are found in waste water and fertilizers, and these can cause exess weed and algea growth if large concentrations end up in water.Microbiological water pollution:microbiological water pollution is usually a natural form of water pollution caused by microorganisms.Suspended matter:some pollutants do not dissolve in water as their molecules are to big to mix between the molecules.Chemical water pollution:industrial and agricultural work involves the use of many different chemicals that can run-off into water and pollute it.

The outcome of pollution is less fish and other organisms, unhealthy water and a polluted earth.Water pollution hurts our water sources such as lakes, rivers, oceans and our drinking water .It's a big problem and a global concern. Many diseases ,health problems and even deaths have been tied to water pollution. The process of contamintation begins with microscopic organisms named zooplankton and it moves up the food chain through clams, birds, marine creatures, and humans.Thse kinds of algea are considered toxic because they have killed humans.

Solutions involve finding sustainable ways for the urban area to reduce both it's dependance on pollutants it produces,or to properly recycle or dispose of pollutants before they contaminate soil, water,or air.

Preventing pollution in urban areas is often a public relations task.People need to be educated about proper ways to to dispose of waste showing each other where waste goes and the problems it can create in our water sheds is an effective way to get the message across the world.

I hope this blog informed you about the types of water pollution and how to stop it.It's or water stop polluting it.

Article posted September 30, 2011 at 04:36 PM GMT • comment (2) • Reads 2080

I think someday mt.st.Helens will return to it's normal size in a century or so because mount saint helens lava dome expands an inch a day.So 365 inches a year,so in many years the lava dome will expand and rebuild the top on mt.st. helens.
