We have three 6th grade Science classes and two 8th grade Science classes blogging here from the Pacific Northwest in Chimacum, WA! Sixth graders are learning a bit about Mt Saint Helens, environmental science through fresh water ecology, and physical science this year. Eighth graders are learning about life science this year. Please join us as we learn Science by exploring our world.

FRICTION FORCE

Article posted May 14, 2012 at 09:14 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1126

FRICTION FORCE CAN SLOW YOU DOWN OR SPEEDS THINGS ALONG OR TELLS YOU THE WEIGHT OF THE OBJECT LIKE THE POUNDS OR NEWTONS OF THE OBJECT LIKE A BLOCK. IF THERE WAS NO FRICTION FORCE THINGS WOULD BE MOVING AT RANDOM SPEEDS LIKE THE TURTLE WOULD BE FASTER THEN THE CHEETAH. A lot of things have friction in,on,or around them

FORCES

Article posted April 25, 2012 at 08:52 PM GMT • comment • Reads 796

THERE ARE ALL KIND OF FORCES LIKE GRAVITY,ELASTIC,
SPRINGY, AND FORCES WE MAKE BY LEANING ON SOMETHING
ONE ELASTIC FORCE I KNOW IS THE RUBBER BAND IT HAS FORCE IN IT IF YOU STRETCH THE RUBBER BAND.GRAVITY FORCE IS WHEN YOU JUMP YOU ALWAYS COME BACK DOWN BUT IF THERE WAS NO GRAVITY EVERYTHING WILL BE FLOATING AROUND US ,HECK WE WILL FLOAT AROUND WITH EVERYTHING.SPRINGY FORCE IS KIND OF LIKE GRAVITY IF YOU BEND IT IT WILL COME BACK OR FLAP AROUND FOR A WHILE LIKE A POOL DIVING BOARD OR A FLY SWATTER.

batteries

Article posted March 13, 2012 at 10:02 PM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 1338

batteries are a little plastic cylinder that has this special kind of juice that helps power the batteries BUT YOU HAVE TO RECYCLE THE BATTERIES NOT JUST THROW THEM AWAY!!!! why because the juice inside the batteries is flammable and if it gets into the furnace then it will EXPLODE=http://=http://!!!!
If you want to make a battery then you will need:a zinc strip, copper strip a piece of a strong paper, rubber band, two small wires, copper sulfate(warning do not get on clothes or on human skin or in the body)and some tape also bend the strips almost 90 degrees away from the paper

Water Cycle

Article posted November 7, 2011 at 02:57 AM GMT • comment • Reads 1699

Precipitation is any thing that is water that falls to earth like sleet, rain, snow, and hail are all precipitation
The water cycle is the endless path of the water
Evaporation is water turning to gas while condensation is gas turning into liqud
Presipitation is water droplets forming into a cloud when there is so many water droplets it rains
You know it's there on hot days because you can feel it
When you sweat it evaporates plants do kinda the same thing it's called transpirtation plants and ground release water into the air
Gas cools down into water droplets

Water Pollution

Article posted November 7, 2011 at 02:37 AM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 1786

Some people don't care about the enviroment so they just throw garbage into water it is called water pollution
Glass takes so long to degraed nobody knows how long it takes to degraed
Plastic doesn't degraed so it piles up with other plastic
Fertilizer from near by farms can accidently get into nearby water, polluting groundwater that animals, plants, and people drink from
When there's a well nearby there's a chance that the water in there is polluted
If the water is polluted then fish, underwater plants, and other mammals, and birds can't eat things beacause it isn't edible to eat nor the fish, underwater plants, and mammals we eat
Some things take 800 years to degraed
there is some algae that are edible for fish but there is a type of algae that takes up all the plankton and water air bubbles so the fish and mamals need so if the fish die the toothed whales die

Mount Saint Helens blew up in May 18 1980.
It made alot of ash which blocked out the sun.
Mount Saint Helens killed 57 people.
A stubborn man named Truman didn't leave his lodge during the volcano explosion, he said "Im not leaving my lodge no matter what happens" he died in his lodge by the volcano.
Mount Saint Helens top actually slid of by a 5.1 earthquake.
There was a mud slid after the eruption that filled the rivers. Spirit lake was filled with a lot of debris and was dissplaced from its original location, too two hundred feet in ellavation.
Mount Saint Helens is now a highly active volcano.

macros

Article posted November 3, 2011 at 10:09 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1712

we found macros such as stoneflys, larve, bloodworm, worm,a fish of some sort?,water might,a scud or a white shrimp,
Stoneflies, mayflies, dobsonflies are not very tolerent so they die the quickest while others like worms and leeches die the slowest.
Leeches,worms=1points
Scuds=2points
Dragonflies, riffle beetle, water mights, and caddisflies=3points
mayflies, stoneflys, dobsinflies=4points
leeches are like sucking pads for human blood
alot of macros are dieing because of pollution
