We have three 6th grade Science classes and two 8th grade Science classes blogging here from the Pacific Northwest in Chimacum, WA! Sixth graders are learning a bit about Mt Saint Helens, environmental science through fresh water ecology, and physical science this year. Eighth graders are learning about life science this year. Please join us as we learn Science by exploring our world.

Article posted May 15, 2012 at 07:52 PM GMT • comment (2) • Reads 1009

1. i wrote about 14 blogs.
2.all were school based or set by the challenge, about 10 were set by the challenge. others were set by the school.
3. 1 comment from a different school. (yes, i was commenting on other peoples blogs. i commented about 26 times on other blogs.)
4.i really cant answer this, since i only got a few comments, and they were all on the top post, so i think they just commented on the first thing they saw.
5.they were all pretty fun to writ, though no one ever views them.
6.i used to have about 20, but it got laggy, so i deleted them and now i have 2.
7.about 4-6.

Friction

Article posted May 10, 2012 at 08:22 PM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 820

1. i learned that friction is the force that happens when 2 surfaces rub together, like a block and sandpaper.you can measure friction in many ways, including newtons and LBS.

on narrower sides, theres more weight since its a smaller side, so its harder to pull, which means there's more friction.

2.we measured friction by pulling the block with a little scale thing, and it measured the force it takes to pull it with newtons by feeling the drag the block creates.

3. controlled variables are the thing that when you do several experiments, it stays the same. we controlled: pulling speed, pulling length, and block type.

the thing thats important to me is a little bit of woodworking.

it is important to me because my grandfather taught it to me, and it is one of his favorite hobbys.

its helped me in life by learnining patience by waiting for the stuff to cut, or for the glue to hold.

Gravity and other, lesser forces

Article posted April 24, 2012 at 08:10 PM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 997

in this section, i learned that the more mass there is, the more weight something has.

I also learned that there are TONS of forces, such as gravity, thrust, drag, lift, friction, ETC.

we also focused a lot of detail into elastic force. elastic force is what a rubber band does when you stretch it.

The blog of carbon dioxide

Article posted April 10, 2012 at 08:22 PM GMT • comment (2) • Reads 1067

how much CO2 did we use in 2010?
964 POUNDS of CO2, or carbon dioxide

how does insulation help you conserve energy?
The pyramid game on the Atoms Family states that the more instillation you have, the more heat it traps.

what are some things you learned about being safe with energy?
don't fly a kite near telephone wires, do not stick something in a toaster or a socket, and dont put anything on cord, also do not leave a plug partially exposed

which fuels put less carbon into our atmosphere?
C02,
electricity,
or
oil?
winner, electricity!

what is a battry?

Article posted March 21, 2012 at 08:20 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1162

a battery is something that powers other objects. it can also be charged, and they usually require an acidic based chemical in them. when you charge it, the battery stores chemical energy. when you use it, it puts out electrical energy. then, when it comes from the lightbulb, it is called light and heat energy. flowing electrons create electricity.
