1)    Inquiry 6.1:    I learned that surface areas like coarse sandpaper have more friction,while surface areas like waxpaper have less friciton.

Inquiry 6.2:   I learned that the more weight you have on your surface area,the more friction there is going to be.

Inquiry 6.3:  I learned that if you put the wooden block on its smallest side,it is harder to pull on high friction surfaces like coarse sandpaper.

2)We measured it by hooking the newtons scale to the wooden block and pulling it across the course sandpaper.The weight of the friction pulling on the wooden block will pull on the newtons scale,bringing the metal peice down to take the measurement of the friction force.

 

3)I learned that with controlled variables you can usually predict what will happen.Examples of controlled variables are the weight of the wooden block,the surface area(course sandpaper),and the distance you pull the block(27 cm).

OK,here is my lesson 6 blog post:

I measured sliding friction force by setting down our surface(course sandpaper) on the table.Then,I

hooked the hook on the Newtons scale to the hook on the wooden block.Then,set the ruler next

to the paper.Pull the newtons scale at a medium speed and the wooden block should follow.Get

to 27 cm and then stop.check the number on the scale.that is the friction force.

                         I learned,about controlled variables,that Most of the time,you can predict what

happens.Examples are,Surface area,Weight of the load,How far you pull it,etc.

1) what i learned was that we used a lot more energy in 2010 then we did in the 1930s.like:

energy.Stored energy can convert into other kinds of energy depening on where the energy needs

to go.If you hook a charged battery up to say a lightbulb or a motor,then all of the stored energy

turbidity is the study of the cloudiness and clearness of water.we check for it because if the water is cloudy,it could be toxins,or acids floating in the water!!!The acids or toxins can effect the water by poisening fish and plants.if it is dead plants in the water,it can block the sunlight from coming in then it would make the living plants sick...we used this little machine and you get a small glass bottle of the creek water (or any water) and you put it in.you hook it up to a labquest and then it will show you the level of cloudiness in the water sample.!!! will finish later!!!!

All of the blog articles that i have done for science,have led to this one.Water quality,creek jobs,water pollution,etc etc.so,heres what i figured out.......

WATER QUALITY

water quality is like the creek jobs,but it is how water is doing as in just water.The levels of toxins,acids,etc etc.this is partly why we went down to the creek!

CREEK JOBS

the creek jobs are testing the levels of amnonia,turbidity,nitrates,dissolved oxygen,and more.we used tools to go down to the creek and test the water.I was turbidity which is the testing of cloudiness and clearness of water.So,we just check for the cloudiness because sometimes thatmeans that there are acids or dead plants in the water.

WATER POLLUTION

water pollution sorta ties in with the creek jobs.because some of the ways to get water polluted is some of the things we are testing for.like acids,amnonia,etc.it can be caused by fertilizer leaking in the water,sewage,garbage,and toxic chemicals.

HOW IS CHIMACUM CREEK DOING??

chimacum creek is doing very very well because all the levels of things like turbidity,dissolved oxygen,etc...exept for amnonia which is bad for the water and makes it polluted.the high level was thought to be a mistake tho.....

 okay here are the creek lvls

D.O

D.Os average for this year is 8.125 MLG/L.this is good because it means our creek  doesnt have to much D.O and it doesnt have  to little D.O.

Nitrates

Nitrates average for this year is 0.3 mg/l this is good because if our creek has too much nitrates,the alge and the other plants will grow too much.

Turbidity-meh job!!!!

turbiditys average this year is 44.7 NTUs.this is relatively low and that is good for our creek because that means our water is clear.If the was is high in turbidity,that means that the water is muddy,foggy,or just unclear.if the water is foggy,that could mean that our water has acids,dead plants,mud,or something that is bad for our water.

PH

the average this year for ph is 6.this is great for our creek because if it is under seven it is acidic.if it is over seven t is alcoline.

Ammonia

the average level for ammonia this year is 1.6...this is the one that mr.g thinks is likely a mistake because it is very high and it means our creek is very high in ammonia and all the other levels are great.

Flow Rate 

1972 GPS is the average flow rate for this year.this is good for our creek because if the flow rate is to  fast then the fish cant rest and then they would be very tired.but he level is good because the fish can rest and they wont get pulled with the stream.

 Temperature

the temperature level this year is good.37.13 F.this is good because if iti is too hot then the fish eggs would overheat.if it was too cold,they would freeze.

alevins have a wide variety of dangers,since they are so tiny and defenseless.here are a couple.larger fish are a big danger to alevin since they can eat them.gravel falling,can be dangerous because alevins hide between gravel and can be crushed.large animals,can step on them or eat them.humans can pollute the water,step on them,and make the gravel fall.flooding is a problem for them because they can be washed out of the stream.

Rob yelled frightened,but trying to sound tough. suddenly,he heard a small giggle and flung around with his camera in hand.A young girl stood in the doorway of his closet just giggling and giggling.Her white victorian-fashioned nightgown fluttered in a breeze that Rob didnt even feel.*giggle* came again,from behind him this time.He flung his body around,so frightened that he barely knew he was moving.An identical child stood at the foot of his staircase looking at him with large,green amused eyes."WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME?!" Rob screamed...TO BE CONTINUED

     THE ROOMATE

this is Macy  (sorry if these pics dont show up)

and this is her roomate Kit

her roomate was a little bit annoying,in Macys point of view.Macys best friend also went to the

same college.One night,after Kit was sound asleep,Macy decided to go visit her friend and 

stay the night.After a couple of hours,Macy realized that she had forgotten her purse in her room

and decided to go back and get it.As Macy walked down the halls of the creepy,castle-like 

college,she thought about all the horror movies she had ever seen,And bad thoughts began to

flutter through her brain like peices of paper in a wind storm.She reacher her room,and carefully

cracked open the door.It squeaked,and not hearing her roomate stir,she opened the door 

all the way and closed it behind her.The thoughts grew,and grew,Dancing around her brain

dangerously.Her heart thumped.She didnt turn on the light,because she feared that she would

wake up her roomate.With every step she took,she  held her breath.She felt around and finally

felt the cool patterned leather strap of her purse.She almost sighed in reilef.She hesitantly

began her blind walk through the door where a crack of light shined through from the hall.

She suddenly bumped into something solid,and figured it was just a desk.She made her

way out the door and back into the desserted halls of the dorm.She carefully and silently

walked back to her friends room.The next morning,Macy walked calmly back to her room.

She opened the door and,Gasped in disbelief.She almost fainted.What she saw scarred her

for life,and she was never the same again.Standing frozen in the doorway,she stared at the

pool of blood sorounding her roomates lifeless body.Written on the mirror were the words

that haunted Macy for the rest of her life. "Arent you glad you didnt turn on the lights?" written

with the blood of her roomate who would never walk or smile or talk again......THE END

There were 3 friends.All in the sixth grade,they were always near eachother.There was

     Amy

     Savanna

and Crystal

They were riding the bus to school,and Crystal spotted a man in the back seats staring at them.

She told her friends.They figured he was the new guy and nick-named him the 'creeper'.

They forgot about it until 4th period  when savana spotted him outside of their classroom,

once again,staring intently at the girls.Savana just looked away.They had all planned a

sleepover at Amys house for the weekend.They rode the bus to Amys house and had already

packed all their stuff they needed in their back packs.They were settled in their sleeping bags,

when they saw Amys moms car pull into the driveway.They started to watch tv again,but soon

noticed that no one got out of the car.They started to hear dragging noises coming

from the porch.They exchanged worried glances and then they quickly decided to run up

and hide in the attic.They pushed open the attic door and bolted it shut.They huddled in the

corner farthest away from the door,and then they began to hear the dragging noises again,

this time,closer then before.They cowered behind eachother,eyes wide and terrified.Then came

the pounding on the door.Louder,and louder until finally the door broke down and the 'creeper'

walked through dragging Amys parents behind him.The girls wimpered.He took off the plastic

mask he wore (which,suprisingly they didnt notice he was wearing)and revealed his true

identity.Amy recognized him right away.It was her cousin."HI!!!" he exclaimed excitedly.He pulled

out a hatchet,and a gun.The fate out how the three girls died was unknown.The bodys were

found several days later,in the attic,where they whimpered and screamed with their last breaths.
