Title: Can You Do the Math? (10/20/11)
Description: Watch this video and respond to their method of solving the problem. Were they correct? Were they incorrect? Would you do it a different way? Explain.

The math problem tbhey did was wrong. 28 :- 7 does not equal 13. 28:- 7= 4 not 13. the reason this is because if you multiply 7x4=28.

They did the math problem wrong by dividing 28 by 7 and got 13. I would have gotten 4 because if you  divide 28 by 7 you get 4. Easy

They solved the promblem incorrectly . the why I did it is EX: 28 (divided by) 7 =4  ) so that says that 7 goes into 28 4 times  . So each officer gets 4 donuts each, NOT 13 !That's how I solved it .

The right anwser was 28 for 7 officers. The short guy wanted really prove to them that they had 13 doughnuts for 7 sailors. He did division and a pemdas kinda thing then multiplication. They didn't put the place holder and got 13. Every way he tried they messed up in the problem but the right anwser was 28 divided by 7 is 4 doughtnuts for each sailor.

My class watched Abbot and Costello and they were stuck in the math problem 7X4. Which equels 28. But Costello said that it was 7X13 that equaled 28. But the problem problem 7X13 equals 91. one of the other ways that you can divide 13 and 28 and see what it comes out as. and the answer to that is 2 remainder 2. So Costello was way off on that problem.

They had 28 doughnuts and 7 officers to feed. The cook wanted to give each one 13 doughnuts! To prove he was right he did the problem three different ways. When they did division, they said to do 28 one time. They should have it in 4 times. Next, they did multiplication. They did not put a place holder so they got it wrong. Finally they tried to do addition. They did not carry the 2 when adding the ones column of 13 seven times. Instead they continued to count arriving at 21 + 7 more to get 28. If they wanted to give each officer 13, they would have to bake 91 doughnuts in all. Instead the cook had baked 28 doughnuts. That would be enough to give each officer 4 each.

One of the sailers came in he made 28 donuts for 7 people he said they get 13 each.Another sailer said "28 / 7 does not = 13." So the first sailer tryed to prove it by drawing it out. So he did 28/7 he put 7 into 28 1 time then put one in the quotent. Then he put 3 sevens into 21 so he got 13.  He was wrong because he first acted like the 1 was a ten. Then he did 13*7. 3*7=21 and 7*1=7 so he then added 21 to 7 and got 28. He got that wrong because he put no place holder in the problom. He wanted to try and prove it one more time so he did 13+13+13+13+13+13+13 he first added the threes like 3*7 then he added the ones like 1*7 he added them and got 28 eight again. He was wrong there because he acted like the tens were ones again like in the division problom.

I loved to watch Abbott and Costello when I was a young girl. I thought they were a riot! Check out the video  and see if you can tell if there is anything wrong. You will find the link under Assignments: Can You Do the Math?
