Old Sacramento floods Old Sacramento used to have tons of floods. Once there was a flood where the governor had to enter the governor’s mansion on the 2nd floor! The people of Sacramento tried almost everything, but nothing seemed to work. They tried building levees, but it only lasted a little during the season when floods started happening. Almost year after year people had to stay on their roofs and use boats to visit friends and family. Several years in a row, there were no floods and some droughts, so nobody was worried about the floods. One year however, a flood started during one of the shows at the Eagle Theatre. The rest of the show had to be canceled because the flood had started to get on the stage! However, the people of Sacramento decided that the entire city needed to be raised. Over the next 14 years, the city got raised. By the end of the raising of Sacramento, the entire city had been raised 12 feet! If you want to see how deep that is, then find the underground wine tasting place and look down from one of the sides to the ground below were it was not raised. If you don’t know where that is, it’s near the train museum of Old Sacramento. Since the city was raised, there have been no more floods.
