Title: Westminster Woods Poetry (04/15/12)
Description: We had a great, rainy week at camp in March. You were able to explain your week through the poetry you wrote upon your return from camp. Now, select your favorite poems and put then into your blog. You need to have at least three, but feel free to put them all on here, if you'd like. There was a lot of great poetry created about our trip, and it will be great for others to see your thoughts. Post away, fourth graders!

Rain
Like a silver mist on a winter morning
Like a cold shower on a hot summer day
Like a soft pleasant music on a tired evening
Like the sound of cheers from a winning team
Like a delightful joy of a little kid on Christmas morn
Like the showers of blessings from heavens above
Like the droplets spreading peace around the world

The Forest Very tall trees hovering over me
The creaking of branches as the wind pushes against them
The light rain drops as they fall on me
The incense of the cedar trees
The rough rugged bark of the trees

Tide pools
Small, rocky
Amazing, interesting, splashing
Water stagnant, illusion, fancy
Deceive, mock, delude
Unreal, misleading
Mirage

Campfire
Hot, blazing
Warming, flaring, igniting
Warmth on a chilly evening
Mystifying

WESTMINISTER WOODS
Best time for me
Enormous place
Super
Terrific

Tons of fun
Really awesome
Irresistible
Popular

My class went to Westminster Woods for a week, and we wrote poetry while we were there. These are a few of my favorites.

Porcelain Crab
Sharp- clawed, feisty
Eating, scavenging, crawling
Tide pool, rocks, forest, duff
Running, hiding, sleeping
Quick, quiet
Deer

Cabin 5
Loud, fun, laughing
Cabin 5

Sea Anemones
Green, squishy
Filter- feeding, closing, amazing
Tide pool, rocks, forest, duff
Reaching, drinking, astonishing
Tall, magnificent
Redwoods

Deer
Fast, nimble, hiding, fearful, forever moving, peaceful, hunted
Deer

Octopus
Amazing, long-legged, colorful, swimming, scarcely found, hiding
Octopus

Pacific 12 -- Poems

Article posted May 10, 2012 at 06:20 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 569

These are some poems I wrote after my class went to Westminster Woods, a nature school. I hope you enjoy!

Rain
Beautiful, powerful, quick
Rain

Creek
Natural, forceful
Churning, flowing, splashing
Sunlight glistening off of waves
Fresh moving water

Waterfall
Cool, rejuvinating
Clamoring, dancing, flooding
Pounds of falling rain and mist
Nature’s showers

Wild Flowers
Like a hand waving to the trees
Like a smile on a hot day
Like the sunlight on a still lake
Like a shooting star in a clear sky
Like a bird singing in the spring
Like a redwood waving wildly in the breeze
Like a rainbow after a horrible storm

Sea anemone
Hundreds of little arms waving to greet me
The silent tranquil sound of the stirring tidepools

Banana slug
Small, slow
Climbing, wriggling, sliding
Camoflage, gentle, wooden, strong
Protecting, charming, exciting
Cozy, inviting

Stars
Beautiful, spreading
Inspiring, fascinating, mesmerizing
Fireflies everywhere
Little lights

After going to Westminster Woods for a week, our class had a great time. Here are some of the poems I wrote about our once in a lifetime experience.

Tide Pools

People scurrying around, trying to catch a glimpse of every discovery
The waves crashing against rocks, creating mountains of water
Elated when I discover a rock crab between the algae covered boulders Salt that has accumulated in the Pacific for many years
The shell of a hermit crab that lays in my palm

Waterfall
Like a national monument, kept for its beauty and grace
Like Mother Nature’s garden for absolute peace
Like a miracle that appeared in the making of this world
Like all other nature parted to make a picture frame for this brisk wonder
Like a river that decided to do a favor for the world and become as beautiful as can be
Like a quick dip of refreshment for nature Like a water supply for animals that is marvelous as well

Redwood
Towering, gigantic, strong
Redwood

Cabin
Cozy, warm, pleasant
Cabin

My class and I went to Westminster Woods for a week. When we got back to school I wrote poetry about my trip. Here are some of my favorite poems:

Hike
The strong scent of bay leaves
The chilling bark of the famous madrone
The fallen leaves of a Douglas fir tree
The birds softly chirping, filling the air with beauty
Enchanted by the forest’s elegance

Puddles
Muddy, dirty
Splashing, drenching, soaking
Pleasing kids who wish to get wet
Small pond

Waterfall
Beautiful, loud
Trickling, flowing, escaping
Lake, river, food, dinner
Repulsing, disgusting, sickening
Burnt, gross
Vegetable Patty

Rain
Constant, misty
Annoying, irritating, un-ending
Refusing to disappear
Precipitation

Redwood
Colossal, intriguing, brightly colored, mighty, strong, evergreen, famous
Redwood

computer -- My Poetry

Sunset
Like a beautiful rainbow of colors
Like a painting with majestic shades
Like a sky filled with fluorescence
Like a gift from Mother Nature
Like a sign that a great night is approaching
Like a mystery of colors
Like part of a world of perfection

River
Flowing, rippling, exhilirating
River

Mountains
Snow-covered, dominating, gorgeous
Mountains

Clouds
Like a great mess in the beautiful sky
Like a pile of the softest cotton
Like a hazy mist blocking the radiant sun
Like a fluffy pillow inviting me to rest
Like a stretch of white on a background of blue
Like a sweet cotton candy spread through the air
Like a light puff fluffing around
Like a ball of smoke coming from the sky
Like some thing crying tears of rain
Like majestic wings covering the bare sky

Wind
Cold, forceful
Blowing, roaring, pounding
Pushing me back and forth
Gust

Ocean
A wave, powerful and mighty
Seagulls flying overhead
The freezing cold water at my feet
The saltiness of the air before me
Water spraying on my face

Sun and Moon
Sun
Brilliant, luminous
Dazzling, shining, blinding
Radiant, yellow, white, round
Illuminating, brightening, smiling
Glowing, crescent
Moon

Math Magic -- Poems of Westminister Woods

Article posted April 18, 2012 at 07:42 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 590

Tide Pools

Living creatures in the tide pools
The crashing waves on the high rocks
The rough rocks under my feet
The salty water
The squishy sea anemone under my fingers

A Redwood Tree

Like a tower that’s reaching for the sky
Like a giant ready to stomp on me
Like a suspended net waiting to tangle me
Like a radio tower sending out signals
Like a telephone pole towering over me
Like a red skyscraper waving in the wind
Like a masterpiece wanting to be looked at
Like a package of beauty for me to admire

Woods
Dark, creepy
Logging, living, flowing
Trees everywhere
Forest

Cabin, at Night

Everyone sleeping, tossing, and turning
The rhythmical hooting of owls
A warm, happy feeling blossoming in my heart
The crisp air of the blackened sky
The soft sponginess of my sleeping bag
