We looked closely at several free verse poems and how the author used sensory language to help the reader visualize. Then we took a persona narrative with a strong emotion and wrote a small moment from it in free verse.

hit the ball
hit it into the outfield
what to expect
i don't know.
The sun is shining in my face
Like a flashlight in my eye.
Adrenalin pumping,
Getting excited.
BOOM!
The ball is hit!

Fright
Waking,
Made me scared.
Looking for the signs,
Of strange activity.
When I was at school,
I ran
To the school door
And had to survive the rest of school
frightened

Spring!
I feel the fresh breeze on my face
I feel the sun beaming on my face
Bees are buzzing around
Ouch!
I see flowers sprouting
It's not summer or fall nor winter
What season is it?

Wow!
No way!
I can’t believe it…
It’s white
It’s a rectangle shape
It has buttons
It has a screen
It can even take pictures
You can play games on it

Water Slide
Should I go on?
Or should I go somewhere else?
I should go on.
I am on.
Now I have to put on my seat belt.
I am going up.
Now I am scared.
It's going up.
Now it's going down.
Fast
Screaming
Now I am wet.
WATER SLIDE.

First Day...
Excited,
No,
Scared.
No, that's not right, I was feeling brave!
That's how I felt the first day at M.A.S.
In the back seat of the car
Not knowing what to expect
It seemed so lonesome
Teachers getting ready to start the new year
Saw kids running,
Hugging,
Meeting up with friends
I felt all by myself,
No one to lean on
My mom walked me up to my class room
I reached my class room
Took a deep breth,
And walked in
I didn't know what to do
I found my seat
I worked from there
And look at me now!
I feel like M.A.S is my home!
Great friends,
In the school play,
And much more.
