Band Reflection

Article posted June 12, 2012 at 07:18 PM GMT-8 • comment • Reads 254

Today my class walked to DP Todd high school to  watch the band. I liked how they played the sponge bob square pants theme song for us. We could sing along, which was also fun! My favorite instrament would probably be the tuba, because it was really big and I liked the deep sound of it.  One of the questions I had was which instrament was the most complex or complicated to play. They all looked quite complicated. Another thing I liked was how we got to walk around the room and see the instraments and how they worked. Over-all it was a fun experience, I had alot of fun.

Moving Day

Article posted March 29, 2012 at 01:22 PM GMT-8 • comment • Reads 79

It was a calm Friday afternoon, in fact it was the afternoon before the day that Joe was moving. He was at school on the playground. It didn’t have much friction because of the frost which made it slippery. After lunch, Joe and his friend George went into their classroom and found out that they were doing science for the rest of the day. “Okay class, we will be studying force for the rest of the afternoon.” said the teacher. “Please open your textbooks to page 92 and write a couple sentences on force.” the teacher said. Joe’s sentence said “Many effect force. They include load, friction, and surface texture. ( Ring, ring, ring ) “Well that’s the bell, see you on Monday!” said the teacher. The next day it was Saturday. Joe’s mom woke him up by screaming “Moving Day! Wake up Joe!” Joe woke up and had a shower. He slipped and screamed “OUCH!” The surface texture was too slippery. After that Joe said “I will use effort force to open the door and spin the axel in side of the door knob. All of family friends came over to help them move. There was Tyler, Jamie, Rob, Todd, Ryan, and Mike. Some of their family came over too. While Tyler was moving a heavy box, he said “I wish I had a mechanical advantage like a combined pulley to help me move all of this load and do the rest of this work.” Then Todd said “What do you mean by work Tyler?” “In science, you are doing work when you are using force to move an object.” said Tyler. “Oh thank you for explaining,” said Todd. After that, they moved the rest of the stuff and enjoyed a nice dinner made by Joe’s mother. Then they hung out for a bit. Unfortunately, they had to go home after that. They said their goodbyes, thanked them for the dinner then left.

Volleyball

Over this spring break, my sister and I have been practicing volleyball. I have been improving by a lot. Since it has been light out for a longer period of time, that means that we can play volleyball for a longer time without loosing track of the ball. Before I knew how to volley and bump, but not that good. Now I know how to volley, bump, and serve good. I also know most of the rules for the game. It has been a lot of fun this spring break and I can't wait till next years spring break.

Skiing/Snowboarding Field trip

Article posted March 21, 2012 at 03:57 PM GMT-8 • comment • Reads 165

On Thursday and Friday, grades 5-7 in my school went on a skiing/snowboarding field trip. On the first day we had lessons. This was my first time skiing so I was exited, but nervous. It wasn't very fun for me because I wasn't feeling very good, so I had to stay in the lodge for the rest of the day. The second day was a lot more fun. my friend and I had a new instructor and we got put into a group with my sister and her friend. We went down one of the easy runs once with the instructor, then the lessons were done. So we had the rest of the day to do whatever we wanted. I went on the chair lift for the first time too. It was scary, but fun at the same time. After lunch, my friends came with me down the other easy run. Most of them were snowboarding. Then after that I went down the run that I first went on with my instructor, but this time i was with one of my friends. Then we went home for the start of our spring break!

Northern Gateway Pipeline

Article posted February 23, 2012 at 02:06 PM GMT-8 • comment • Reads 69

The Northern Gateway Pipelines are two pipelines that transports oil from Bruderham, Alberta to Kitimat, British Columbia. Then on a boat, ships the oil off to China. Personally, I am against the project because it will pollute the air and nearby waterways, harms habitats of animals, produces large amounts of greenhouse gases, and threatens the health of people who live in the area. It could harm Canada's environment, animal's habitats, etc. If it leaked or the boat that was carrying the oil tipped over, I don't even know what would happen. What I do know is that Canada's environment would be potentially ruined. It would also go through the territory of more than 50 First Nations. Canada's oil would go down faster than if we just keep it how we have it. To me the Negatives over-rule the positives. It would create over 1,000 jobs. 104 permanent and around 1,200 temporary jobs. The last positive is that the pipeline would make over 2.8 billion dollars for Canada.
