Taylor's Blog This blog is for Miss Jovanovich's algebra and geometry classes to share ideas, ask questions, and reflect on what skills and topics we are studying. If we are lucky, we might even get a chance to connect with other students studying the same stuff.

My Favorite Construction My favorite construction is bisecting a line segment because I find that it is easy . To bisect a line segment you first have to draw a line bigger than that you are copying. Measure the original segment with your compass. The point of the compass will represent the same point on your new drawing. Keeping the same measure put the endpoint on the end of the segment and trace a dash with the other end that has the pencil on it. This will be your other point on your segment. Now put the compass' point back on the first point and put it out more than halfway on the line segment. Make an arc with the pencil and repeat, keeping the same measure with the other point on the segment. The points where these two arcs intersect will be the points of your bisecting line. After you draw a line through the two point either side of the segment you bisected will be the same length and you will have created a right angle on all four angles of your new figure.
