This blog is for Miss Jovanovich's algebra and geometry classes to share ideas, ask questions, and reflect on what skills and topics we are studying. If we are lucky, we might even get a chance to connect with other students studying the same stuff.

Greetings everyone! This is my last geometry blog before finals. I have my geometry final the last day of school and I think this is a good thing because it gives me more time to study and review. I started reviewing for finals more than a month ago so I feel pretty confident I will do well. I just think it will be hard to remember what we learned back in September. Ultimum vale omnes.

Salutations fellow bloggers! This week in geometry class we learned about the law of sine and cosine. It isn't to difficult but I don't really understand how it saves you time.
My question for the final review is: What quadrilaterals have diagonals that bisect each other?
Answer: Parallelogram, rhombus, rectangle, and square
Have a great week everyone!

Sine, Cosine, Tangent

Greetings everyone. This week in geometry class we learned about sine, cosine, and tangent. These are formulas that an help me find the length of a side in a triangle by using an angle measure and a different side. These only work in right triangles. Each formula connects different sides and angle measures. To help remember which goes with which, I use SOH, CAH, and TOA. I find these acronyms very helpful and it will be interesting to see what we do next with these formulas. Thanks for reading my blog and check in next week to hear an update on what we learned in class.

Salutations fellow bloggers. Last math class I took a test on finding the area of parts of circles and triangles. It was horrible. It wasn't that the test was extremely hard, but it was just so long. Also, my geometry teacher wasn't there and I couldn't understand the wording of a few of the questions and I had no one to ask. I wasn't at class Tuesday because of a field trip and was sick the next day. This meant I didn't get a chance to have the questions I had on my homework answered. Over all, I don't feel confident I did well on this test. Thanks for reading and have a nice weekend.

Track Meet

Hello everybody! This past week was great. I had a track meet Friday and I won the 800m and placed second in the 1600m. My 4X400 relay team also won. It was lots of fun. The scratch project we have been working on for forever is due next week. The hardest part was trying to sync it to the music. I could make one tessellation and plan the entire program, but to see if it looks okay, I need to have all of them. After I've made all my pieces, if it's one second off, I need to go throughout and change the time on each piece. It takes forever! I can't wait to see everyone's projects next week.

Special Triangles

Greetings fellow bloggers! This week we learned about special triangles and ways to find their side lengths. The special triangles we learned about were right triangles with 60º and 30º angles and right triangles with two 45º angles. These shortcuts really help to speed up my work when finding the area of triangles. One thing I like about the shortcuts is they are not formulas, so I don't have to state my variables. Have a nice week!

Radicals

Hey everyone, I had my first track meet Friday and it was really fun. I won the 800m and got 5th in the 1600m. I was also in the 4 X 400 meter relay for the first time.
In geometry we are learning about radicals. This confused me because I already learned about radicals but it was nice to review them before using them for bigger things. To help me simplify the square roots faster, I am memorizing my square roots up to 25. I'm using this sight to help me: http://quizlet.com/1136699/square-roots-to-25-flash-cards/
So far I have most of them memorized except a few of the harder ones. My goal is to have them memorized by the end of the week. I hope everyone has a good weekend.

I had a fantastic April vacation. I went horseback riding in the mountains; it was really fun. I also went out for dinner in Boston. In geometry we are still working on translations. They aren't very hard but I thought my homework over vacation was. It was on tessellations and I had a hard time seeing them. I also worked on my scratch project over vacation and it turned out pretty cool. I hope everyone enjoyed their vacation as much as me!

I hope everyone had a great Easter. I sure did! Not only was the long weekend helpful but I got to spend time with some of my family I hadn't seen in a while. I had an easter egg hunt with my family and found a chocolate bunny in a scavenger hunt. My Aunts and Uncles and I went out for brunch and Although the food wasn't very good, the deserts were yummy!
In geometry class last week we learn about translations. They aren't too hard but I still don't understand how they will help with the scratch project.
April vacation is coming up next week and I am so excited. I'm going to Connecticut to visit family and work. Everyone have a wonderful vacation and have fun!

Hello everyone, the quarter is almost over and we just completed our final geometry test. I thought I'd done well and I got a 94. I also got my grade back for the triangle poster, another big grade this term. I didn't do very well because my color coding wasn't clear enough. I never really understood what the color coding was supposed to be. I'm excited for next term and hope I get to do the scratch project. I hope everyone has a great next term!!
