Emma's Extravagant Blog This blog is for Miss Jovanovich's algebra and geometry classes to share ideas, ask questions, and reflect on what skills and topics we are studying. If we are lucky, we might even get a chance to connect with other students studying the same stuff.

6 weeks left! Hello everyone! This year has flown by so fast. In fact, there are only 6 weeks left of school. It seems like just yesterday that we were all entering as freshman. Looking back at this year, I feel that I have learned a lot. Each class that I have taken has expanded my previous knowledge, and I feel ready to enter into sophomore year. On another note, we are currently finishing up our year in geometry learning about the area's of different polygons. We have learned many new formulas that help us to easily calculate the area. However, sometimes we are missing certain essential pieces. Luckily, if we are given a right triangle, we can almost always calculate each side of the triangle within the polygon, usually giving us some essential information. The two special right triangles are 45-45-90 and 60-30-90. Each triangle has it's own properties. For example, in the 45-45-90 triangle, the legs are congruent. To remember the length of the hypotenuse, just remember that there are two legs, so you multiply one of the legs by the square root of two. In a 60-30-90 triangle, the short side is half the hypotenuse. To remember the long side, just think that there are three different measurements, so you multiply the short side by the square root of 3. I hope everyone has a great week!
