Abby's Astounding Geometry Blog!

This blog is for Miss Jovanovich's algebra and geometry classes to share ideas, ask questions, and reflect on what skills and topics we are studying. If we are lucky, we might even get a chance to connect with other students studying the same stuff.

My Favorite Problem From Chapter 3

Now that my class has finally finished up chapter 3 and is moving on, I thought it would be nice to post about my favorite problem from chapter 3.

My favorite problem is the class starter we did on December 7.  The problem consisted of 5 lines that intersect to form a star with a pentagon in the middle.  Extending off of each of the star’s pints is a right triangle.  Some of the angle measures in the image are given, and the are 8 angles with variables.  The task is to find the value of each of the variables though the use of theorems, postulates, and definitions.  Unlike all the other class starters we do, this one was a race to see who could finish first, and the winner received extra credit.  I never won, but it was still a fun competition and an enjoyable way to apply our skills and test our knowledge.  I hope we do more of these races in the future!
