Pesky Proofs
How many of you out there know what a proof is? I sure didn’t before last week! A proof in geometry is when you have to explain why and how you were able to come to a conclusion. While this may seem rather simple, the process is actually very difficult. For instance, you may be asked to prove the statement: ⦟ABC ≅ ⦟DEF. In order to do this, you must use justifications for every little step in your thought process. I didn’t realize how many steps solving equations took until I had to write them all down. These justifications are things like postulates, theorems, and definitions. However, no matter how much you wish it to be so, you cannot use “because I just know!”, which I found I often wanted to scream in class.
