This blog is for Miss Jovanovich's algebra and geometry classes to share ideas, ask questions, and reflect on what skills and topics we are studying. If we are lucky, we might even get a chance to connect with other students studying the same stuff.

Reflection of the Week; 30- Another problem for the final

Article posted June 11, 2012 at 11:28 AM GMT • comment • Reads 101

Bloggies!

Hello again! My week has been pretty good, I am getting excited for school to be out and being able to have a great summer. I have still been studying for the final and I am going to show you another problem that I looked at. Number 37 on page 390. It was a pretty easy question but it was helpful to cover the entire unit on arcs. It shows a circle and gives you a small arc measure of 30 degrees and you had to find the other arc. The answer would be 330 degrees. But have a nice week. This is my last blog, I didn't enjoy this at all and won't miss it.

Reflection of the Week; 29-Last week Final Question

Article posted June 11, 2012 at 11:24 AM GMT • comment • Reads 15

My blogger people,

So last weekend this website was down so I couldn't blog but I am now. My week was pretty good, I started looking for problems to help me study for the final because I need to do good on it. I know most of the material pretty well but some of it I am a little shady on. One problem that I studied was number 35 on page 474. In it you have to find the value of y when given x. Next to it is a diagram showing where the values are placed. To find the answer you use tangent of y and do the math from there with your calculator. If done correctly the answer should be 71.6

Blogger people!

So this past week we learned some trigonometry. In order to remember what combination goes with either sine, cosine, or tangent, we learned the phrase SOH CAH TOA. I find this phrase to be not that helpful because I just memorized them, but next year when we come back to this I will definitely not remember it but this will keep it in my mind forever. I am hoping I did good on my scratch project but we will see. School is almost over and I am getting itchy to just be out, so hopefully it comes fast. But I will talk to you people next week!
Love,
Kevin

My blogging buddies!

My weekend was an experience and a half. I went down to Springfield, Mass and played against some of the best teams in New England. I drove down with my team which was a pretty fun time, we had a fire extinguisher actually go off in the van and we all thought we were going to die, but anyways, back to class. This past week was like always, I found the test to be a little difficult but I think I did alright on it. As far as blogging about something special I have no idea what it is supposed to be so I am just going wing and and yeah. Have a nice week

Reflection of the week 26: special triangles

Article posted May 14, 2012 at 11:14 AM GMT • comment • Reads 28

Bloggers!

My weekend was pretty good the homework is easy. Special triangles are pretty basic. If it's a 30_60_90 then you need the shortest leg. From there the long leg is times root three that and the hypotenuse is double it. For a 45_45_90 triangle its a little different. Both legs are the same since it's isosceles and the hypotenuse is times root two that. These to tricks are really helpful because they save you a lot of time because you dont have to use the Pythagorean theorem. Have a nice weekend!

My blogger followers!

I had a good weekend. First weekend with no tournament so I just got to gather my thoughts. Class this week was pretty good too. The homework has been fairly simple. I had problems with with a few of the answers but I figured it out. The formula for the pythagorean theorem is asquared+bsquared=csquared. It is very usefull to find the 3rd measurement of a triangle. I find it to be really useful while doing anything with triangles. Summer is almost here I am excited. Well, have a nice week bloggers!

Bloggers!

So I forgot to talk about reflections, which was what we are learning in class right now. I find them very easy, you simply draw the line of reflection then the the prime of each point based off of that line. I think it's pretty cool that you can completely copy a figure like that with actually using a mirror or something. Anyways, I was just talking about those real quick!

Have a nice week,

Reflection of the Week; 12 -Favorite Scratch program

Article posted January 30, 2012 at 01:08 AM GMT • comment (3) • Reads 375

Bloggers!

My weekend was good, I dyed a pair of white socks pink for my basketball game this Tuesday. It is breast cancer awarness month in basketball so it should be a fun time.

On another note, after searching through the scratch programs I found a couple that were pretty sweet but this one, I thought, was the coolest. Here is the link http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/kingliam3/2286716

In this program you control the physics of a helicopter in order to allow it to fly a certain way. You can also change the color of it and how much fuel it goes through. This program is really complicated and I am sure it took the creator a long time to make. I chose this one in particular because I liked how you can control certain parts of the helicopter in order to fly it how you want too. I also like flying in videogames and tis is the exact same thing as this.

Have a good week!

Bloggers!

My weekend off was good. We won our game on Saturday, 8-0 baby. I'm not realling looking forward to midterms but I am sure they will go by fast and then I can enjoy myself. One problem I have studied this weeked for geometry is a proof because I am not very good at proofs. I ended  up getting the answer but it was a kind of easy one so I am not sure if it helped much. Anyways, have a nice day!

Mty basketball team is doing great! We are 7-0 which is pretty sweet. My weekend was good. I drove up to Tilton, NH to watch the number two high school prospect in the nation for basketball play. He was a beast and dropped 25 points. I could do better but that is a different story ;)

Reflection of the Week; 6. +Favorite Problem

Article posted December 19, 2011 at 12:57 AM GMT • comment • Reads 96

Bloggers, blogging is dumb. Anyways!

Hi bloggers! This week was pretty good. My basketball team is undefeated and we have another game this Tuesday. My weekend was very, very busy. I had to work on two projects Saturday and then my family had a christmas party on Sunday. On another note, out of Chapter 3 my favorite problem was in Lesson 3-4 on page 147, problem 19. The problem is a triangle and it gives you two of the measures and you have to find the third angle measure. The two angle measures are 81 degrees and 62 degrees making the answer, or the third angle be 37 degrees. I like this problem because I think it is cool that triangles angles always have a sum of 180 degrees.  Talk to you next week!

Love,

Hello Bloggers! This is me just talking about my week once again. Also what is to come :)

So this past week has been pretty good. In class we had a quiz which I did pretty well on. I am finally starting to somewhat not hate proofs anymore. They are fairly simple if you get it so it's not that bad. This coming week is going to be very exciting. I have basketball tryouts so hopefully that all goes good. Oh and we have a binder quiz in class. I'm sure ill be fine on that

My blog buddies! Sorry this blog is a bit late but my internet has been down at my house for the whole weekend. Hopefully it will be back up when I get home.

Anyways...... This past week in class we have been learning about proofs. I find them very pointless and kinda boring. Who cares how you got the answer, you just got it. Haha..... But so far the class in general has been pretty cool. I love math and my mind just works in a mathematical way. The 1st quarter went pretty smoothly I thought. I ended up getting an A- which im pumped for. I'll write next week.

      Till then,

The 5 Angle Pairs

Article posted October 25, 2011 at 02:45 PM GMT • comment • Reads 120

GOOD MORNING FELLOW BLOGGERS=http://! I hope the following information is very helpful to you.

www.mathsisfun.com/    go to this site and enter whatever angle pair you want in the search bar for a good defition.

My favorite angle pair is supplementry angles. I like these pairs because all you have to know in order for them to be supplemtry is that they equal 180 when added. This is a very basic pair and it also occurs a lot in math. A good way to remember what supplemtry angles are is to think that the two angles supplement each other meaning together they form the overall goal of a line. For me this thought helps me but it may not for you.

Constructions

Article posted October 18, 2011 at 01:29 AM GMT • comment • Reads 119

Hello bloggers. I am glad to announce this is my first blog and I hope you enjoy the following information.

"Construction" in Geometry means to draw angles, shapes, or lines accurately. These constructions are made with the use of a compass, straightedge and a pencil. Constructions do not use numbers at all. My favorite construction is copying a line segment. I like this for two reasons, one it is the simplest of the constructions, and two lines are used in just about any geometric problem so it is important to know how to copy a single segment. The first step in copying a line segment is to have the segment that you want to copy. Once you have found the line you take the point of the compass and put it on the endpoint of the segment. You then put the other point of the compass on the opposite endpoint of the segment. Making the compass as long as the line is. Once you do this you make a point wherever you want the copied line to be. You put one point of the compass on this point and while keeping the same measure of the compass you draw an arc. Then put a point in the middle of the arc and connect to the points making a line that is congruent to the line you wanted to copy.

My hope is that this helps you out but if not there is plenty of information on the web. Good luck!!
