Sara's Blog

This blog is for Miss Jovanovich's algebra and geometry classes to share ideas, ask questions, and reflect on what skills and topics we are studying. If we are lucky, we might even get a chance to connect with other students studying the same stuff.

Freshman Advise

Article posted June 12, 2012 at 04:34 PM GMT • comment • Reads 20

Looking back at the beginning of the year this year was a very fun year at the High School. Stuff that upcoming freshman should know to make you not to nervous to come in is just be your self first of all. Second of all, do your self a favor and just do what your teachers tell you to do. Do your homework because I fell behind a little bit in the middle of the year, and it was hard for me to catch up. Don't be late for any of your classes. In the mornings, be in school on time because if you are late you get a Saturday detention because they want you to be in school on time. Now if you have a parent excuse you from being late or they call the school to tell them that your late then you don't get one, but if you just show up because you overslept then you get a punishment for it. One of the best tools that you could have is be prepared for class! Have a pencil, use your planbook, and have everything you need for that day. It's like middle school, just do the right things, and you will be a star student. Do not skip class and walk around the halls. You will see upperclassment doing that, but that might be because they're in a study hall, or they're just not where they need to be. One key, when you have math class, like Ms. Jovanovich, her class is the one of the best classes I had this year. She is one of the teachers I know that is strick because she wants you to do the right thing. Do not be late for her class. Help yourself and just go to her class ontime because she is the teacher that will give you a detention for being late. The first time that you're late she will be lenient with you a couple of times just so you get the point, but then she will give you the detention. Have open communication with her too, not just with her but with all your teachers. They tell you in middle school that your academics count right? Well in high school do your best and don't fail your classes because you will have to retake them, and you won't want that jut because you will be behind and falling down the cracks. The good thing about it, is if you really are having a hard time in the specific class and you do need the help and it comes to the end of the year and you just don't get it, you can retake it and you will get the credit, but don't slack off because then the teacher will say that you were fooling around the whole entire year and that's your fault.
Just have an awesome time in high school because it goes by so fast. I know you may have heard that so many times, but it really honestly does. I never knew that next year would have come by. It feels like yesturay I walked in as a freshman. So enjoy yourself, and enjoy it. Mr. Siroris is the assistent princible and I go in his office all the time and sit with him and just talk with him. He's the most funniest guy you could have as a princible. He's not scary, I promise!
Enjoy yourself and have a great time!!

Looking Ahead

Article posted December 15, 2011 at 03:19 PM GMT • comment • Reads 111

I have no started thinking about semester exams until the other day when we were talking about it in math. It really hit me about how serious you have to take these test because they count as your grade. All the things that we have done in math, about real numbers, adding and subtracting integers I should look back on and start studying soon. Three exams that I should start doing is Science, English, and Math. Maybe even Spanish. Those are the ones that are really going to be of a challenge for me. I think I understand the evaluating expressions, and translating because they were not really that hard. The one thing that I need extra help with is the absolute value. I had a hard time with that subject. I totally understand how they affect our grade because Mrs. Jovanovich was explaining it in class. The only thing I don't really understand is how they look. I've never really seen them to know what they look like. Maybe that's something that I could start looking at. Hopefully there not a struggle!!

Half of Quarter 2

Article posted December 7, 2011 at 02:55 PM GMT • comment • Reads 78

Wow, it's almost the half of quarter 2! Time goes by fast. I think that quarter 2 is going very well. I'm making progress in math. Daily comps were a bit of a challenge but it seems to make sense. We're starting a new topic and I hope it goes as well as the other topics we learned about. The progress that I'm making this quarter is I ask questions more. I also have been putting the correct answers on my paper when I get them wrong, and I've also done a little bit better on the binder quiz's. I think that was my problem. My evaluating was pretty tricky in the beginning, but now it's easier because we have been doing tons of them in class! Translating expressions was really easy! I liked them. They were a lot of fun. When we did them for homework, I rarely got anything wrong. I just hope what we're learning this time I will do the same progress and even better!

Tech 5

Wow, it's at the end of the quarter all ready! I have enjoyed almost everything in Math this quarter. I think the most fun was learning about things that I didn't know last year, and the most fun was listening to mrs. J talk, and go on and on(;
I think the most thing that has made me proud is doing math problems that I don't think I could ever do. Another thing that made me proud would be getting the highest science test score in my class! That was very exciting. It made my day, and my dads day, a lot. A couple of things that I am going to be doing differently in quarter 2 would be to ask questions when I need help, and to understand math more, because I am having trouble.
Goals for quarter 2
1. When Im struggling in something, don't just sit there, ask for the help.
2. When I do my homework, and mrs. J puts the coect answers on the board change my answers to the correct ones, so when we have a binder quiz, and it asks for the answer, l will have the right answer(: !!

My math teacher is Ms. Jovanovich. She is a really good teacher, she is really funny and she's got a great since of humor!! I have a little brother, and I live with my dad.
High school is so much better than middle school because you get so much more freedom than you do at the middle school. Freshman is swimming with the big fish now!!! ( :
