 Combining like terms- Semester Exam Review Combining like terms: Problem: 8s-3s+4k First off, in any combining like terms problem you want to check to make sure that all the variables are grouped together for when your solving the problem a lot easier! For this problem we do not have to do that because all the variables are already in order. So we can just get straight off to the math. First we want to combined 8s-3s because the variables are both S. So 8-3 is 5. So our problem is now 5s+4k. Now we cannot add together 5s and 4k because the variables are not the same. So now our problem is finished and we leave it as 5s+4k.
