The Famous American I Would Like To Meet

Article posted May 16, 2012 at 07:59 PM GMT • comment • Reads 362

Hi, this is Lucas blogging and today you’re going to be reading about the famous American I would like to meet if he were still alive. That famous man is George Herman Ruth, Jr. or as we all know him “Babe Ruth”. I hope you enjoy reading.
First off, I would like you to know why I would like to meet him. I would like to meet him because he was a baseball legend. He has been my idol since I first started playing. I think that he has paved way for many kids like me and that motivates us to become just as good as him some day. I think it would also be cool because he could even give me some advice, especially since I’m in a slump.
Now, here is some more information about this amazing man. Babe had 714 home runs in his total career. I think that would be impossible for me.George had as we all know played for the Yankees but he also played for the Red Sox and the Braves. He played for the Red Sox for his first five years in Major League and then was traded to the Yankees for 15 years he then played for the Braves for a brief time before he retired in 1935.
Well, I hope you learned so much more after reading my blog. Thank you. Feel free to comment.

My Aristotle Report

Article posted May 15, 2012 at 08:50 PM GMT • comment • Reads 161

Hello, today you are going to be learning about the famous philosopher and scientist Aristotle. Did you know that Aristotle was born in 384 BC in the town of Stageira, Chalcidice and died in 322 BC? Well, he did. I hope you learn even more than this in my report. Thank you.
Now, you are going to be reading about whom he taught and who taught him. Aristotle was first taught and educated in the study of aristocracy. By the age of 18 he furthered his education in Athens at Plato’s Academy. After studying he did some brief studies in Asia and then became the head instructor at the Royal Academy of Macedon. There he taught Alexander the Great, Ptolemy, and Cassander.

Now, you are going to be reading about what he did in the field of science. After studying at Plato’s Academy he went with a man named, Xenocrates to Asia. While in Asia, Aristotle went to the island of Lesbos to investigate the botany and zoology of the island. Aristotle also contributed to many other physical sciences including, anatomy, astronomy, embryology, geography, geology, meteorology, and physics. He had also proposed a fifth element. This element was aether. By element I mean the classical elements like fire, wind, earth, and water. Aether was said to be the heavenly spheres that make up the planets and stars.

Now, you are going to be reading about how I think Aristotle has paved way for many of us today. I think that Aristotle has done many great things to help future generations. He has impacted Islam and Christian theories and so much more. I think he would have been able to help us more but through time, more than half of his work has disappeared. Many of his works that we have today actually have been rough drafts of his real work. I think he had also done good work for people of his time to; because he had built a school which had helped educate people and make them thrive and so much more. I think that without Aristotle’s work we would still be set back by so much in the world of science.

Well, I hope you learned way more than you knew about the amazing scientist Aristotle. I also hope you liked my report. Thank you for reading.

My Ending to The Wanderer

Article posted May 1, 2012 at 04:00 PM GMT • comment • Reads 255

Hello, this is Lucas blogging and today I’m going to be writing how I think Uncle Dock’s ending should have ended in The Wanderer by Sharon Creech. I will be writing in Dock’s point of view in chapter form. I will start right after the walk with Rosalie. I hope you enjoy reading.
Chapter 1
Thank the lord! I’m so happy! While I was at Father’s house Rosalie and I went on a walk and she proposed to me. First I thought it was a little awkward for a woman to propose to a man but who cares! I will be with her forever. We will be leaving in one week to Alaska to get married.
Chapter 2
Wow! Alaska is so wonderful and I’m so happy with Rosalie. We just got married and I just found out we are having a baby boy. We’re going to be naming him Eli. He will be born in November and we will be living in Spain because Rosalie was offered a job to be a skydiving instructor. It pays great and I will be giving sailing lessons. Sophie and her parents will be living with Bompie and we will visit every summer and next year we all plan to do another boating expedition.
Chapter 3
Eli is wonderful. He brings so much comfort to my life and we have finally settled in Spain. I love my job and so does Rosalie. Sophie is coming in a week to visit. Hopefully we can go on a short trip and sail to Portugal and this time we will be a lot more cautious. Everything is perfect.
Well, I hope you enjoyed reading a more positive ending to the Wanderer and thank you so much. I thought the Wanderer was a very good book. Please feel free to comment.

Keeping The Teams Safe

Article posted March 23, 2012 at 08:34 PM GMT • comment • Reads 279

Hello, today you are going to be learning about how the Jr. Iditarod helps keep the teams safe. I hope you enjoy reading this great informative blog. I hope you learn a lot after reading this blog. Also before you read a musher is a sledder.
First off you might be wondering “What in the world is the Jr. Iditarod?” well the Jr. Iditarod is a dog sledding race in Alaska in honor of dog sledders who helped bring medicine to the isolated town of Nome, Alaska. These brave sledders had to sled with their strong dogs in the large area of Mt. McKinley. So in honor of these dogs and sledders two races are held every year; the Jr. Iditarod and the Iditarod. Now you are going to be learning how they help keep the mushers and the dogs safe in the Junior Iditarod.
To keep the mushers safe they created the Jr. Iditarod, because the Iditarod is over 1000 miles. That is crazy. The mushers in the Jr. Iditarod can be within the ages of 14 and 17. They must be healthy and drug free. They also must have snowshoes so they can walk in the snow without getting snow all over and then getting wet, they must have a headlight so they can stay safe in the dark, and they must also have matches or a lighter to start a fire to keep warm and to make a signal if they get lost.
Now let’s talk about how they keep the dogs safe. First off the mushers have to present a heath certificate and must be up to date on their vaccinations. They also have to get a urine or blood sample to check if the dog is getting some kind of illegal steroids so the dogs preform above their natural ability. To keep the dogs healthy and full of energy if a musher gets lost a musher must have at least 2lbs. of food per dog. The musher must also stop at the half-way checkpoint for up to 10 hours so the dogs can rest. A musher must also switch a dog out or drop him off at the next checkpoint because if the dog gets too tired it can become very serious. They must also check the dogs feet at each checkpoint and if there is a cut they must put a bootie on the dog to keep the cut safe.
I hope you enjoyed reading my blog. And I also hope you learned a lot. Thank you for reading my blog. Also please comment if you liked my blog.

What I Want

Article posted March 5, 2012 at 05:11 PM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 261

Dear Mom,
I want a Mini HP laptop. It would be great. I hear they are always having great sales at stores nation wide. They also have great deals online.
They can really help out with academics. A girl in my class named Sophia said they helped improve her math grades by a lot. I can do blogs for Mrs. Freitas very easily, practice my reading skills, Do research and reports for Mr. Gardner, and there are many math websites where I can practice all that I know. I think that is a great idea.
We can also communicate very easily. I can check my e-mail more often and we can Skype with lots of convenience. I would really like that because I miss getting to talk to you face to face. I really miss it. I think it is a great convenience and a spectacular idea because like I said I could check it more often. Actually I think I only get to check it about once or twice a week, but if I got a mini laptop I would be able to check it almost every day. Plus, we could open an online chat room just for me and you.
A great thing about it is that, Marcos and I won’t argue about who gets a turn on the computer. Because, Marcos can use your laptop or my Dad’s while I use mine. But I would also share my laptop with Marcos because we are brothers and I think it feels good to share. I think it is also a good chance to bond with Marcos because some games have a two-player option. I think it is a great idea.

One thing that is great is that I can download games without being told it damages your computer and takes up too much memory. In fact, there are actually some games I have always wanted to play but I didn’t want to damage your work computer by taking the risk; and if I ever got a virus on my computer, the fixing would come out of my own pocket.

I have also done some research and some are as low as $250.00 but if you want a really nice one they are pretty expensive. I could help out with buying it by using some of my own money but I also don’t want a fancy one. I would like the kind that you bought Noel, a mini Gateway laptop.

Thank you for reading and I think it would be a great idea if I got one because I don’t want to be the only one in the family who doesn’t have a laptop. Have a great day.

Love,
Lucas

Homer P. Figg

Article posted December 2, 2011 at 03:26 PM GMT • comment • Reads 267

Today I am going to be talking about why I think Homer went to go find his brother, Harold instead of living with a very wealthy Quaker named, Jebediah Brewster who can provide for him the rest of his life. I hope you like my blog and if you do feel free to read this book. The name of this book is called, The Mostly True Adventures of Homer P. Figg.
First, of all you are probably wondering who is Homer, Harold, and Jebediah. Long story short, Homer gets their uncle upset so he sells Harold into the army for a bottle of whiskey. So Homer runs away from his mean uncle to tell Harold that he can leave the army before he is killed because Harold is not old enough to enlist in the war.
Once Homer runs away he stumbles upon two serial killers named Stink and Smelt who want Homer to go inside and spy on Jeremiah’s home because there have been rumors that his home is a station for runaway slaves on a journey along the Underground Railroad. If Homer doesn’t he will be killed. So Homer goes in Jeremiah’s house and is accepted. He is treated like Jeremiah’s son and is allowed to stay but Homer chooses to look for his brother instead of living in luxury. Now I will be writing about why I think he left.
I think he left because I would have rather found my brother than live alone and be rich. I mean I would be so depressed if he died knowing I could have maybe done something to keep him alive. Another reason I think he left is because he feels his brother has helped him all his life and acted as his father and now he feels like it is all he fault he is in the army. So he faces many obstacles to find him even if it means going face to face with a killer.
Well, hopefully you like my blog and thank you for reading. Even though this story is fiction I think I would’ve done the same thing he did instead of living in luxury. I think you should read this book if you like my blog and thank you for reading.

Across this Vast Sea

Article posted November 10, 2011 at 08:47 PM GMT • comment • Reads 311

November 10, 1620
Dear,Pa
It’s been really hard since we left with Uncle Robert and Aunt Jean to the New Land. Especially since it has gotten so boring on the ship with nothing to do Marcos and I tend to fight a lot. I mean the other day I got into a fight with Marcos and I gave him a black eye and I really got bruised up.
Another thing that really stinks is that we all stink since we have not taken a shower in over eight weeks. Aunt Jean says it’ll be a long time till we even see fresh water and that really worries me if we run out. The food really gets boring after almost eight weeks of salted pork, beans, cheese, and stale bread, plus mice have gotten all over our rations and that makes it even worse. I hate the storms even more because we are all cramped up down in our living quarters and we don’t even know what is going on out side.
You’ll never believe what just happened…
Marcos and I got into one of our usual fights and it was going pretty well I mean if I were an announcer at the street fights in England. I had hit him in the head and he fell back then I got on top of him and started hitting him when all of a sudden we both fell off of the ship and when I thought all hope of life was lost I was hanging on to a piece of wood sticking out of the ship holding onto my brother’s hand and still the waves were crashing against our backs. I was scared to death. In less than a minute, men held out a rope and we clung onto it with our dear life. Once they pulled us onto the deck I was praying to Lord Jesus with my dear life and I accepted God right then. I was very glad I stayed alive. Well I hope you could ‘a been there but I can’t wait to see you next spring.
Your Clever Son,
Lucas King

Ben Franklin’s Big Idea’s

Article posted October 20, 2011 at 06:30 PM GMT • comment • Reads 356

Hello, do you know Ben Franklin’s big ideas, if you don’t read this and you will learn a lot more about his ideas. So come on, get your reading glasses on, and get ready to read.
Did you know that Benjamin Franklin published the first almanac in 1733 and he was only 26 year old? The almanac’s name was the Poor Richard’s Almanack. It included weather forecast, tide schedule, sun set and sundown times, when to plant crops, jokes, and every day advice. The thing that I think was the most interesting is that he was pretty young when he wrote it. And by the time he sold his third edition he was getting about 10,000 copies sold each year.
He also discovered that lightning and electricity is the same thing, although electricity is much stronger. The way he discovered it was first he sent a letter to European scientists to do an experiment; and this is what the experiment was. Build a tall shack and put tall and pointed rod up on the top of the shack and take notes on what happened. Then, he decided to prove it himself by holding up a kite in the air with a pointed wire at the top and feeling the shocks travel through the rope to the key, and guess what, he proved that he was right.
Guess what, he also convinced France to help us gain our independence. He got them to send us money, guns, uniforms, food, and soldiers to help us win the war. I am very glad he was very good at persuading people to do thing or else I might not have been born in this country.
He even was a post master and improved it a lot from six weeks to three weeks to six days. That was a major improvement.
Another thing he did was he organized a fire department and fire insurance which I think is really cool and probably made a lot more people feel safe when cooking.
The last thing he did that I think was awesome was that he organized the first ever hospital, even though they did not have many of the things we use today.
I hope you liked my essay/blog; and I know you probably learned a lot more about Benjamin Franklin just by reading this. Thank you.
