Ben Franklin and his Big Ideas
Do you know about Ben Franklins Big Ideas? Ben had some wonderful Ideas and I will be telling you about them in this essay.
One big Idea Benjamin had was the almanac. He was the first person to make one. He called it the Poor Richard’s Almanack. His first edition was published in 1733. His book was very popular and people would buy it every year. In the book there would be information and advice.
People loved his almanacs but he had even greater ideas. Another idea had something to do with electricity. He wanted to prove that lightning was the same as electricity. Others thought that was the craziest idea they ever heard. Ben wanted to prove that he was right, so he set off to work.
He flew a kite with a key attached to it on a very stormy day. The lighting was attracted to the key just like how electricity is. Some European scientists decided to test it for them selves. They soon figured that Benjamin was right. Soon, lots of people did not think he was crazy, but smart.
He was famous and everybody knew him. During this time the revolutionary war started. He was sent to go to France to persuade them to fight with the U.S.A against England. Ben Franklin was a very good negotiator and got France to help them. He was also chosen not just to go to France, but to help write the declaration of independence. With the France helping them the U.S.A won the war!
Now you see, Ben Franklin was a very important man and made a great deal of history. Today, we remember him and all the good deeds he did. We also remember his big ideas.
