Go Big or Go Home

The reason that I wanted to read this book was because it looked very interesting from what my classmates told me. I also wanted to read this book because it was a sci-fi book and sci-fi books are pretty cool from my experiences. I think who ever the new reader is should hear this interesting fact, Brady the main character, was almost got hit (if he was sleeping in his bed) by a meteorite that he called FRED. Fred stood for far roaming I forgot. I would definitely recommend for someone to read this book because it is far roaming off the ground more than any other book. I think you should read this.

Basketball

The most useful thing that I think is the Basketball. This MVP lets me use my free time with friends on a 1 on 1 game. James Naismith invented the wonderful Basketball because he thought that it would give people 1 more thing to do.

This is what a basketball looks like. It is sometimes made of synthetic rubber and leather. The inside is made of butyl rubber and the carcass consist of thread of nylon or polyester.

Non-fiction blog

Article posted March 20, 2012 at 10:23 PM GMT • comment • Reads 382

I am interested in the topic of non-fiction, animals. That animal is the Siberian tiger. I am interested in that topic because they always have interesting facts about them like how long they live or are people destroying their habitats. What I already know is that the Siberian Tiger usually hunts down his/her prey in the middle of the day. I also know that when they have cubs they are a little to protective over them.

#122 Who is Punxsutawney Phil?

Article posted March 15, 2012 at 02:27 PM GMT • comment • Reads 306

Punxsutawney Phil, if you're wondering who it is like I did, he is a groundhog that comes out of its burrow to see if it can see its shadow. If it can't see its shadow then he will go back in its burrow and that means 6 more weeks of Winter. On Febuary 2, an early morning ceremony happens at a place called "Gobbler's Knob". When Phil has made his decision, legends say that he speaks to the president of the ground hog club in a secret language called Groundhogese. A special group called the inner circle keeps good care over Phil year-round. Phil has been sharing its predictions with the world for 120 years. Since groundhogs only have a life for 10 years or so, scientists tell us that there have have been more Phils throughout the decades.

If a farmer believes this tradition then it might effect when he plants its crops. If he thinks there is six more weeks of winter then he might not plant his crops in time!!!

Hi Bloggers,

Let's extend our exploration of Wonderopolis!

I want you to go to Wonderopolis.org (or use the widget I added below your names) and find an article you REALLY enjoy. Read the article from start to finish... then come back here to complete a little report.

Your Wonderopolis pt. 2 report needs:

-Specific topic of the Wonder

-Interesting things you learned from your reading

-3 of the Wonder Words to know and use WITH your personal definition of the word as it was used in the article

This should be at least a 7 sentence post. Please choose one or more of these ideas to extend your post:

-How the topic you chose affects your every-day life

-How the topic you chose relates to a possible career choice for your future

-How the topic you chose affects the lives of people in other parts of the world.

GOAL: no repeats (from the first Wonderopolis Report OR new ones posted). One way you can do this is by posting the title of the article you choose before you type the whole article.

My thoughts on poetry

Article posted February 21, 2012 at 03:16 PM GMT • comment • Reads 400

My favorite poets are Shel Silverstein and Jack Prelutsky. I like end rhymes, personification and hyperbole, mostly. I am good at finding end rhyme because they are easy to find. I think I will use end rhyme, hyperbole and personification because those are all my favorites. I think I will work on writing about sports and sports players.

Homework, Oh Homework

Article posted February 9, 2012 at 12:09 AM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 422

by Jack Prelutsky

Homework! Oh, homework!
I hate you! You stink!
I wish I could wash you
away in the sink.
If only a bomb
would explode you to bits.
Homework! Oh, homework!
You're giving me fits.
I'd rather take baths
with a man-eating shark,
or wrestle a lion
alone in the dark,
eat spinach and liver,
pet ten porcupines,
than tackle the homework
my teacher assigns.
Homework! Oh, homework!
You're last on my list.
I simply can't see
why you even exist.
If you just disappeared
it would tickle me pink.
Homework! Oh, homework!
I hate you! You stink!

I chose this poem because it makes me laugh. My favorite part in this poem, by Jack Prelutsky, is when the boy or girl says I'd rather take baths
with a man-eating shark, or wrestle a lion alone in the dark. I really hope you will enjoy this poem.

Is the sky falling?

Article posted January 26, 2009 at 06:00 AM GMT • comment • Reads 412

No,the sky is not falling. Many people wonder if the sky is falling because the satellites and "space junk"are sometimes falling from the earths atmosphere. We believe that 20,000 pieces of space junk orbit the earth. Sometimes even at 5 miles per second. Space is also filled with rocks and stones called meteoroids. The earths ozone layer helps keep the meteoroids out from entering the earths atmosphere. On their flight to earth, objects meet the wind from the air in the atmosphere. When this happens it causes friction and makes a lot of heat. In fact most of the objects burn up on their flight. If a piece of meteoroid is big enough to survive the way down it is hot and we usually call them shooting stars, falling stars or meteors. Only 4 people have been hit by a meteor but none have had serious damage. Only 1 person has been hit in 1997 by a piece of space junk. It was a piece of the Delta ll rocket and felt like somebody was tapping her. By the way, the odds of getting hit by space junk is 1 out of 100 trillion. Getting hit by lightning is 1 out of 60,000.

Wonder Words

Atmosphere-- Is the earths space.
Meteoroid-- rocks and stones of all different sizes.
meteor-- Is when a meteoroid survives its flight down to earth.

Greece

Article posted January 10, 2012 at 10:36 PM GMT • comment • Reads 473

The country I am doing is Greece. Their decorations that go on their tree symbolize the real gifts on the family trees. The Christmas season begins with 40 days of fasting. The week before Christmas, Greek families begin baking. One of the baked items is the Christ's bread (Christopsomo), sweet bread made into large loaves of various shapes. The remainder of the loaf is divided among the family. Before those pieces are eaten, each member dips his piece in wine and prays to St. Basil. The children believe that St. Basil gives gifts to them.

Keeping Room

Article posted December 6, 2011 at 04:40 PM GMT • comment • Reads 818

Keeping Room

So far, this book is about Josephs dad going off to war. The British captured him and put him in the British jail. At the end, they write to each other and his dad wrote "I will be home soon".

My favorite character in the book is Joey (Joseph) because... Joseph is my favorite character because he is brave and bold and I like those sort of people. He is also a nice kid because he thinks that the British should not take over their land (its kind of obvious).

I liked when Captain Harkins saved Joeys life. Captain Harkins was a nice man to Joey but Joey did not like him because he was one of the British who tore and ripped the Keeping Rooms floors and walls. Captain Harkins got killed because of Joey.  Captain Harkins jumped in front of the bullet to save Joeys life when the red coat shot.

I didn't like it when Joey had to look at people being hanged in his own front yard. I would NOT want to see that because your stomach might get the jitter flies and you might faint.

You might want to read this book if you like American History and wars. This book was really good(in my opinion), I suggest you read it.

Applying my intelligences

Article posted November 16, 2009 at 06:00 AM GMT • comment • Reads 1001

I can apply my intelligences at school by doing my work properly. For example I can use my linguistic smarts by reading at school and writing at school. I can use my logic-mathematical smart at school by either using it at math or using all around me. I think that school can help you do activities like those and help you get smarter in a fun way.
