I wanted to read Flip because when Mrs. Berkman read the back to us it sounded really interesting. I really liked the first page because it had a lot of detail. I liked when The main character, Ryan, "flpped" into Gandhi during a fight with the schools biggest bully. I also liked when Ace stopped Billy from throwing a cynderblock onto Ryan's head because Billy could have killed Ryan. I would recommend this book to people our age because it seems like something they would enjoy.

MVP inventions

Article posted April 27, 2012 at 01:41 AM GMT • comment • Reads 465

The most important invention in my life is the T.V. It makes my life entertaining. Some people think that Edwin Belin invented it. Others say Guglielmo Marconi invented it. T.V.s come in many different shapes and sizes. All of them have a screen in the middle.

This is what many T.V.s looked like                                                                     This is what many T.V.s, like the one I have, look like now.

Nonfiction I DO Like!

Article posted March 22, 2012 at 09:18 PM GMT • comment • Reads 353

I have two favorite topics. One is about people and places. I really want to learn about the Eiffel Tower and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. I want to learn about these because I want to visit Italy and France. I alredy know that the Leaning Tower of Pisa was built strait up instead of leaning.

My other favorite topic is animals. I like this topic because I like to see what kind of animals do different things and I don't know all about them. I already know that some animals hybernate, like owls. I mostly want to read about adventures animals have been on.

Why Does a Strawberry Have Seeds On the Outside?

Article posted March 5, 2012 at 01:47 PM GMT • comment • Reads 323

Why does a strawberry have seeds on the outside? The answer is easy, strawberries aren't real berries. Real berries have seeds on the inside like blueberries and cranberries. A strawberry is really a big part of the plant called the stamen. Each seed is really a fruit that has another seed inside of it. Although I do not want to be this, a good carer choice for this article is a farmer because it talks about harvesting strawberries. This topic affects me because I love strawberries and now that I read this, I know what I am eating is not atually fruit.

My Brother

Article posted February 28, 2012 at 02:14 PM GMT • comment • Reads 72

My Brother

I really hate my brother

He really is a pain

He dances in his undies

(I should have moved to Maine)

He sings Raga on the X-box

His girlfriend’s name is Luna

His lunch is a goldfish sandwich

He smells a lot like tuna

But I really should just say,

I don’t hate him all that much

For the worst part really is

My brother’s hamster at lunch

My Thoughts on Poetry

Article posted February 20, 2012 at 03:52 PM GMT • comment • Reads 373

Poets I enjoy are Ken Nesbitt, Sharon Creech, Jack Prelutsky, and Shel Silverstien. Some topics of poems I enjoy are about funny things because they always make me laugh. I think some devices I am good at finding are end rhyme, alliteration, onomatopoeia, and repetition. I think devices I will use are onomatopoeia, repetition, and alliteration because those are some of my favorite poetic devices. I think my creative poems will be silly because I really like silly poems because they are not serious at all. These are some of my thoughts on poems.

I Bought a Pet Banana

Article posted February 14, 2012 at 02:07 PM GMT • comment • Reads 404

I Bought a Pet Banana

I bought a pet banana
and I tried to teach him tricks,
but he wasn't any good at
catching balls or fetching sticks.

He could never catch a Frisbee,
and he wouldn't sit or speak,
though we practiced every afternoon
and evening for a week.

He refused to shake or wave or crawl
or beg or take a bow,
and I tried, but couldn't make him bark
or get him to meow.

He was terrible at playing dead.
He couldn't jump a rope.
When he wouldn't do a single trick
I simply gave up hope.

Though I liked my pet banana,
I returned him with regret.
Boy, I sure do hope this watermelon
makes a better pet.

--Kenn Nesbitt

ht a Pet Banana

I like this poem because it is funny. I have always wanted a banana as a pet (not really).

My cousin has one because she is only 3 and I tricked her into getting one.

Star Light, Star Bright

By:Bruce Lansky

Book: "My Dog Ate My Homework"

Star light, star bright

first star I see tonight,

I'm going to try with all my might,

to keep my jammies dry all night.

I like this poem because it is funny.  At first, I thought this was going to be a serious poem but it was actually really funny. I think the picture looks cute, too.

Which dessert takes the cake?

When something "takes the cake", it usually means it's the best example of something. This phrase was invented at cake-walk strutting competitions in the late 19th century. At these competitions, couples who won received an actual cake as their prize. We think cake really does "take the cake" when it comes to desserts. Cake has been around for thousands of years. The first "cakes" were probably fried bread or cheesecakes. The word "cake" originates from a Viking root. It comes from an Old  Norse word "kaka". Today, cakes come in many different flavors. What is your favorite?

Vocab words:

Dessert- food that is usually sweet

Fondant- a gummy paste that tastes like sugar. Used to decorate cakes.

Lollipop- hard, flavored candy on a stick

Christmas in Switzerland

Article posted January 2, 2012 at 08:01 PM GMT • comment • Reads 620

Christmas in Switzerland is alot similar to our Chritmas but really different too. There are 4 traditional Christmas greetings. They are in French, Italian, Swiss-German, and Romansh. In Switzerland, the star treetoppers represent the star of Bethlehem. Only real candles decorate the trees as well as crystal globes to represent light and stars represent light from heaven. The week before Christmas every child in the village dresses up in costumes bringing little gifts. The villages compete with each other when they call people to a midnight mass. After the mass, everyone enjoys big donuts called ringli and some hot chocolate. Gifts are given on December 6th on a day called St. Nicholas Day. Gifts are given by Santa Claus, Father Christmas and his wife Lucy, La Befana, and Sameichiaus. Christklindli is a famous white clad angel in the Swiss-German areas. A veil held in place by a jewel crown covers her face and when she enters each house three candles are lit while she hands out gifts withher child helpers. These are some Christmas traditions in Switzerland.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             I chose Switzerland because I have friends who live there and I never knew how they celebrate Chrismas. When I read this article I was suprised because I thought this country didn't celebrate Cristmas and I learned alot.

Guns for General Washington

Article posted November 28, 2011 at 11:36 PM GMT • comment (3) • Reads 864

My book is Guns for General Washington. So far, this book is about a boy named Will Knox who is a soldier in the army. He and his brother have to go to Fort Ticonderoga and get guns for General Washington's troops. But soon the British might attack Boston, so they have to get the guns there fast. My favorite character in the book is Henry Knox because he is really brave to come up with a really dangerous plan. I liked when they got to the fort to get the weapons because it made me feel happy that they got there. I didn't like the beginning because you didn't know who the main character was. You might read this book if you like to read about history and wars.

I like smartsville because it teachs children to learn in different ways. I wish Voyager had Smartsville because I think it would be fun to have our own little town. The idea of the post office is really cool and funny. The school teaches kids to know the different smarts and intelligences.

My State - Washington

My state is Washington.  It was the 47th state to join the union.  Seattle was home to the first Starbucks Coffee.  Washington apples are famous there.  Washington is also home to the first revolving restaurant.

The Problem Child

Article posted September 19, 2011 at 07:17 PM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 1576

I am reading the 3rd book in the series of The Sisters Grimm. So far, Sabrina almost found her parents but Little Red Riding Hood took them away to another secret place. I think Sabrina and Daphne are going to run into her parent's kidnapper again. Or maybe they will run into her pet, a mean dragon called a Jabberwockey.
