Ryan's connection blog

I just read Natalie's blog titled  “Cure for  Hiccups”.  In it she describes the time in her class that she had the hiccups. Thinking of Mary Poppins Natalie asked for sugar to cure her hiccups. The teacher offered her some, and guess what? It cured her hiccups! Like Natalie, I also have had many annoying cases of the hiccups , and  like her I found out that sugar would help it go away.

This past spring break  I was in the kitchen making some lemonade for the whole family to enjoy. I couldn’t wait to be done to enjoy my first cold glass. All of a sudden, hiccup, hiccup, hiccup! Oh no. The hiccups, have come back to haunt me again! There is nothing that I dislike more. Unfortunately, whenever I get the hiccups I have to wait it off. It is almost like a teasing game. Just when I think it’s gone , it comes  back  even stronger. I have tried all of the recommended remedies: holding your breath, drinking water, and trying to scare the hiccups away. But its all a lie! So I went to the only place where I might be lucky enough to find an answer, the internet. The site I decided to go to was Answers.com and then I typed  “cure for hiccups”. The site gave many suggestions. Some were very reasonable, some were just plain silly. Here are a couple of suggestions that were unreasonable . The first one said: ”Get bucket of water. Then, stick your head into the bucket of water 3 times and pull it out”.  Another suggested to “ Tilt your head back, plug your nose, roll your  eyes 7-10 times and say "vavavavava". Repeat steps once or twice”. Another  one advised you to “Stand on your head”. I mean, don’t you think that’s going a little far just for the hiccups? Now here are some more reasonable ways to cure the hiccups. “Eat a piece of dry bread slowly”, “Gulp down a glass of water”,      “Swallow 3 times with your mouth closed.”.  But  the one that caught my attention and was easy enough to do was to eat a tablespoon of sugar.  So I quickly searched for some sugar and gulped it down. I waited patiently for about one to two minutes and bam!, my hiccups went away.

Just like Natalie, I found  out that one tablespoon of sugar can cure a case of the hiccups. So the next time you get it, just try it. If you really  think about it, what do you have to lose, but the hiccups.
