Dear, soon to be freshmen

I don't give advice very often, but here goes nothing.

First off Stay organized. If you let your locker get messy or backpack you will lose papers and work and next thing you know your grades are slipping before your eyes. Also pay attention. No matter how much you hate that teacher just swallow your pride and pay attention and do your work and things will go a lot smoother.

Secondly, don't let the term freshmen make you think everything is that much different now though. It's the same old petty teenage gossip, and drama. Just maybe a little more than eighth. Luckily though if you hate ninth it goes by really fast, so don't sweat it.

Basically just do your best, ignore the drama, be you, and by god keep up on your blogs. They will eat you alive if you get behind.

Sincerely, Mike McVeen

Here we are again. Me writing another poem yet again. I do enjoy this though as being in a band I can use this for maybe fragments of songs. Anyways, I hope you enjoy the following poem.

Smoke from matches struck too soon

Embers from bridges burning under the interstellar moon

Children playing under the twisted bars

Men crying behind the cold bars

Women starving themselves to be like the stars

Wasting minutes sitting at desks

Glazed eyed and emotionless

Mind control at its best

“Hey john what’d you get on that test?”

Millionaires stealing their share

Too apathetic to care

Therapists in a line trying to diagnose and define

I swear it’s just all in my head

If we all live to die and we all die to live

Than were all just a paradox and there isn’t anything to give

An educated criminal

A mindless authority

They follow around like blind sheep

So just count me in the minority

Waking up every night in cold sweats from the nightmare

You begin to wonder why nothing seems to go right

You begin to learn it may not be so fair

April Freewrite

Poems are really interesting. They have been around for hundreds of years. They can be about nearly everything and anything. Here's my poem. I hope you like it.

The Gardener

The flower seems a little dry today

The cold grey sun beating over it

The starting line looks like a nice place to quit

Seedless with reverse thorns

Up above with reverse thorns

Up above, the myth scorns

The white petals now a deep red

Whispers and broadcasts the only way you get fed

The bugs and bees keep away

The rain hasn’t stopped in days

The pollen doesn’t seem to be the same

The soils not good enough

We need more dirt on him

The stems a little thin

Fertilizer should do the trick

Dry season, dry heaving, synthetically sick

Roots tied around its self

Why won’t the gardener help?

Begging for nutrients

Trapped on the other side of the fence

Its harvesting season

I Hope you enjoyed this poem on a flower.

Representin'

In many books, movies, and other forms of media, seasons are used to portray a mood or emotion. It is very widely used. Also it is very effective. Here is my ideas to what the seasons could symbolize.

Spring could mean hope, and that things will get better and that there's always a second chance. I say that because Spring comes after winter when every thing is bare and lost its color, so Spring would be when everything is coming back to life or in symbolic terms, things are getting better.

Summer could mean love, and happiness and freedom. I say that because Summer would than be when everything is at it's peak and everything is great, because suunny days are always associated with good things.

Fall could mean honesty, and wisdom. Fall symbolically means wisdom and honesty I think because it's when things start to change and it could be good or it could be bad.

Winter could mean solitude, isolation, and maybe even death. This would mean that Winter would be isolation because being in your house a lot because of the snow being am obstacle to get places, can cause that feeling. Also things are bare during winter and look dreary and dead. Or atleast that's what I think seasons could symbolically represent.

In conclusion, the seasons represent. Spring is hope, summer is love, fall is honesty, and winter is isolation. I hope you enjoyed it.

Construction Theory

Anyone who knows me probably knows my obsession with Pink Floyd. Also what better than for a blog than to use something by them. I chose the song "Waiting For The Worms" because I think that it has a lot to do with Humanism. Humanist experts would definitely celebrate this song.

My first reasoning behind why I believe it has examples of Humanism is the lines "Waiting to weed out the weaklings, Waiting to smash in their windows

,and kick in their doors, waiting for the final solution". With those lines, they're showing you the mindset of a powerful corrupt system or government. An example would be the Nazi party.

The second reason that actually without a doubt takes in through the eyes of the Nazi party is "Waiting to turn on the showers

And fire the ovens

Waiting for the queens and the coons

and the reds and the jews

Waiting to follow the worms". Those lines although some people interpret that as being supportive of the Nazi party, are in fact strongly against that way of thinking.

This song was about exposing that way of thinking and getting a message of how pointless and evil wars and governments and even people can be. Humanism experts would celebrate this song for trying to expel hateful thinking and advance towards more peaceful methods.

Dreaming is a weird thing if you think about it. Closing your eyes and falling asleep and seeing and imagining things. This poem is mainly about dreams and life and reality.

February freewrite

Space is just a place

with no human race

no law or no rule

no sinner no fool

we are all just dreamers

all floating in a dream

so what's closing your eyes

if nothings as it seems

what you see

what you feel

what you hear

what you eat

who you meat

what you fear

reality is a locked door with no key

and right now is all that will ever be

there is no tomorrow

there is no yesterday

and if you could finally wake up

you'd see the sky today

November Free Write

Hey you! come read this poem/song. It's about the endless possiblilties and dreams that seem on the horizon as a child and how when you get older things start to grow dull and those possibilities start to dwindle because reality's harsh and sometimes you can't get what you want.

Floating on clouds

Flying through waves

Hiding through streets

Exposed in caves

Swimming with birds

Flying with fish

Cursing a star

On an asteroids wish

Were close to the sun

But we can still see the moon

We can still make it back before noon

In our space ship cocoon

What is work?

Why can’t we play?

I lost that child innocence today

So we pretend that we have control

When we are sporting a tie

But in the course of life

Conformity’s just another way to die
