What do you want for Christmas this year? Most people want things that have a price tag on them, but not me. All I want this Christmas this year is there to be snow on the ground.

The meteorologists say that there won't be snow on the ground for Christmas, but that doesn't kill my Christmas wish. In my opinion, a snow without Christmas doesn’t get everyone in the Christmas Spirit.

When you don’t have a Christmas without snow, it doesn’t feel like Christmas because you can’t make snowmen. When there is snow on the ground, people make snowmen, drink hot chocolate, and hang out by the fireplace.

A tradition in my family on Christmas is to get up, open presents, go to my grandmas for Christmas dinner, and then go sleigh riding with my little cousins. Do you have any traditions that you do on Christmas?

Although we may not have snow on Christmas, and my Christmas wish won’t come true, I will still be looking forward to snow in the winter. Sometimes you don’t get everything you want for Christmas, but you have to suck it up and deal with it. There are people who will get really upset about not getting what they want for Christmas, but in my opinion it doesn’t matter. Being with your family on the holidays is all that counts.

In conclusion, All I want is there to be a white Christmas. Even if you don’t get what you want don’t get upset about it. All that counts on the holidays is being with your familes.

“The Bass, the River and Sheila Mant”

Imagine having to choose between something that means the world to you, and someone you like. In the story, “The Bass, the River, and Sheila Mant,”the narrator has a crush on a beautiful girl named Sheila Mant. They go on a date and she is a jerk to him. Sheila Mant is a spoiled girl, she fits the stereotype of a typical blonde, and there is only one reason she couldn’t fit this stereotype.

Sheila Mant is a very spoiled girl. In the story she and the narrator were going on a date and traveling by canoe when Sheila says, “Look, I can get Dads car.”( W.D. Wetherell p.6) By saying this she is implying that she gets anything she wants, because she can use her dad’s car. Also another reason she is spoiled is because she goes skiing all over the country with her family on vacation. The last reason she is spoiled is because she told the narrator that she could go to college wherever she pleased. She is telling the narrator that money isn’t an issue in their family and she gets whatever she wants. This is how Sheila Mant is a spoiled girl.

Also, Sheila Mant fits the stereotype of a typical blonde. The stereotype of a typical blonde is self-absorbed, materialistic and snotty. She only talks about herself. For example, in the story the narrator and Sheila were talking and Sheila said, “I think fishing is dumb. I mean it’s boring and all definitely dumb.”( W.D. Wetherell p.7) This was rude of Sheila to say considering fishing means the world to the narrator. Another example of how Sheila is self-absorbed is when she and the narrator were on their way to their date she said “Eric said I have the figure to model, but I thought I should get an education first.” It was rude of her to talk about Eric while she was on a date with the narrator. She is materialistic because she ditched the narrator at the end of their date to ride home with Eric in “his Corvette” and this proves that she is materialistic. (W.D. Wetherell p10) Sheila Mant does fit the stereotype of a typical blonde.

One way Sheila Mant doesn’t fit the stereotype of a typical blonde is because she danced with the narrator a few times on their date before she ditched him for Eric. If she hadn’t had danced with him, she would fully fit the stereotype of a blonde, but because she danced with him, she doesn’t fully fit it. This is the one reason why Sheila Mant wouldn’t fit the stereotype of a blonde.

Sheila Mant is a spoiled girl because she gets to use her dad’s car, she can go skiing where ever and whenever she wants and she can go to college wherever she chooses. She fits the stereotype of a typical blonde because she is self-absorbed, materialistic and snotty. The one reason Sheila wouldn’t fit this stereotype is because she danced with the narrator. So what do you think; is Sheila Mant spoiled, and does she fit the stereotype of a typical blonde?

When you hear the word winter what do you think of? When I hear the word winter I think of snow and when I think of snow I think of skiing. I love to ski. I love to ski because I love the rush you get going down the slope. When you ride up the ski lift it’s really boring sometimes, but if you’re with the right people it’s really fun.

I ski on blue squares because I’m too afraid of going down black diamonds. Blue squares are one step below a black diamond, but they’re not as steep. When you’re at the bottom of a black diamond you can basically see the top of the mountains.

Some people snowboard instead of skiing because they think it’s easier, but in my opinion skiing is much easier. I tried snowboarding once with my sister and I couldn’t even stay up. As a result of failing at snowboarding, I ski. Snowboarding and skiing are very different. A snowboard is obviously only one board, and skis have two. Skis are much easier to balance on in my opinion because you’re standing on two feet, not balancing on one board.

I also like to drink hot chocolate after I come off the slopes. So tell me… When you think of the word winter, what comes to your mind?

In the passage "The Djinn Who Lives Between Night and Day" the theme is sometimes it's okay to lie if it's for a good thing, but if it's for a bad thing it's bad to lie.

Tayab lies to the woman saying if she goes to the sea and stays there her children will come back to life, but she can never go look for them, because if she finds one they will all die. This lie was for a good thing because it gave the woman hope, but also bad because she would stay there her whole life believing a lie.

This can be tied into real life because if you lie in order to keep hope, the lie is worth telling, but if you lie and something bad can happen out of the lie, it's not worth telling.

Mousetrap Car

Snap! There it goes around the turn and into the ending zone! Yes, we’re going to Wagner University! We have built and designed a mousetrap powered car to travel a track with a 90o turn and finish in the designated area. One thing that could improve our car is more speed and if I were to grade my own project I would give myself a 110%.

The “Warrior”, my car, is a car with designed with four wheels, one mousetrap, one lever, one block of wood and axels for the wheels. We chose to use CD’s for our wheels because they don’t cause much friction, or loss of speed, in your car. The wheels are attached to our car with wooden rods, with red adaptors on the ends to hold the CD’s in place. These rods are called wheel axles. The axles are attached to the base of the car which is a block of wood. Near the front of the car is the mousetrap with the lever attached to it which is approximately 10”. Attached to the lever is a fishing line that connects to the back axle, and winds up and when you set the mousetrap off the fishing line goes with the lever which makes the wheels move the car. We changed our project by not using bumper wheels, instead of using them we angled our front wheels to the left to give it a natural curve.

The best part of my car is the natural curve that makes the car smoothly glide into the end zone without letting it hit any corners. The worst part of my car is the speed. The Warrior doesn’t go fast, it goes smoothly instead. If I had to change anything about my car it would be the speed. I would shorten the lever and shorten the fishing line so the wheels turn faster and make the car travel at a faster speed. If the Warrior goes faster, it will make it over the speed bumps with no problems.

If I were to give myself a grade on this project I would give myself a 100%. I would give myself a 100% because to get this grade you had to successfully maneuver the track and stay in the landing zone, which my car did. Also my car is very colorful and school spirited. I would give myself 10 extra points for that. So my overall grade would be a 110%.

If you had to build a car similar to this would you use the same design I used? The Warrior is known for its natural smooth curve, but lacked for its slow speed. If I were to change one thing I would make my car faster, and I would give my car a grade of 110%. Just imagine how it would feel to have the honor of representing Elk Lake School at Wagner University of Philadelphia, PA.

Do you think the grass is greener on the right side, or the left side of the fence? What makes the grass greener on one side of the fence than the other? Is the grass greener on the side with more sunlight or less? The grass is definitely greener on the other side, because the cows don't eat the grass from there, the sun shines more on one spot than the other and if it is on the other side than obviously more people go on one side than the other.

Most people consider famous athletes as heroes. A hero is someone who leads you in the right direction and tells you to make the right decisions. Would you consider a teacher as a hero? As a student, I don't consider teachers as heroes because the only reason their there for you is because they're getting paid, they pick favorites and most of them don't care if you pass or fail, and they let you do it on your own without help.
