 May Free write

My creative mind once more has come up with a new poem/song! I think that is a good enough attention gaining statement. I could not wait to share it with everybody. I’m grateful for all of my feedback and I hope everybody enjoys my poem/song.

There I go again falling to the beat of my own drum

And here I go again doing something so utterly dumb

But what can I say; when you’re not here to tell me I’m crazy

I need you, oh I need you

Like flowers need rain and I need air

I need you, I need you

And there you go again, dating somebody new

And here I am again falling for you

What do I say, what can I do

When I need you, oh I need you

Like flowers need rain and I need air

I need you, I need you

I want you, not somebody new

My heart is broke again, can I go on again

Tell me this can’t be true, I need you

How am I suppose to say the things that I don’t want to feel the things that I push away

How am I suppose to move on when everything is falling apart

I need you, oh I need you

Like flowers need rain and I need air

I need you, I need you

I want you, not somebody new

My heart is broke again, can I go again

Tell me this can’t be true

Tell me you love me too

I need you

I hope that everybody enjoyed my poem/song. Also, have a wonderful music filled summer. Have fun soaking up the sun.

You Are One Year Closer To the End!

Article posted May 23, 2012 at 04:44 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 162

Dear scared and confused Freshy ,

You don’t know it yet, but when you walk out of the 9th grade you will be a whole different person than you were when you walked in. This is the year of change for you. Life will seem hard and sometimes quite boring, but most of it will rush by in a blur that you can’t control and you will at one point scream at the top of your lungs, I swear. It’s going to be complicated. It’s supposed to be that way though. It’s part of growing up. You are going to make mistakes and you are going to wish you could take a lot of the things you ever said or did back at one point. Although you feel like you can take it back, there will be times that you can’t, but you have to get up and be strong and move along anyway. Keep your head up high and don’t let life get in the way of your pride. Trust me, I have been there.

Things that will make it better are getting good grades. The last thing you need to add to your plate is bad grades to worry about too. Deadlines pass in no time, so do it when you have free time. Yes, yes I know that your x-box or hanging out with your friends sounds so much better than doing book packets, but hint: if you don’t do it you will fail for that marking period. I have been there and it isn’t fun. Do it when you have the time because truth is, you have no time to waste. Every moment passes before you know it and if you think lying in bed asking “why you” is going to fix it, you are in for a rude awakening when you realize you have less time than you think.

Dear freshy, life is tough but you have to face it head on and not back down. Don’t let the ninth grade stop you, let it change you though. Let it make you into a better person because that’s what it’s meant to do. Things change. Adapt. You made it this far, you can make it further. Good luck.

                                                                                             Sincerely, been-there –done-that 10th grader

The Real Romeo and Juliet

Article posted May 9, 2012 at 04:40 PM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 459

Romeo and Juliet. What a timeless tale of star crossed lovers stricken with the horror of forbidden love. Who doesn’t know the tragic ending to such a popular story? I’m sure all of the song writers in the world know the story as well. It’s always used as an allusion in songs about love, but are they alluding to Romeo and Juliet affectively? Are the characters in the song the infamous Romeo and Juliet that we all have grown to know, or are the characters just a symbol for love in songs?

In the song “Not Good Enough for Truth in Cliché” by Escape the Fate, it refers to Juliet as the love one of the narrator. The story line of the song infers that the narrator, who can be assumed, is Romeo, kills Juliet by saying “Finger on the trigger to my dear Juliet.” It also says how the narrator cannot forgive themselves for killing Juliet by saying “This blood on my hands is something I cannot forget.” It infers the tragic ending of the actual novel Romeo and Juliet, but instead of Juliet killing herself by sword, this song depicts Romeo killing Juliet by gun.

The accuracy of the song “Not Good Enough for Truth in Cliché” by Escape the Fate is very little. It is true that Juliet dies in Romeo and Juliet because of Romeo, but Juliet kills herself, Romeo never kills Juliet. Also, because of the time period of the novel, Juliet’s death was by sword. The song is more modern and says that Juliet was killed by a gun which is inaccurate. Although the song is somewhat accurate, it is not completely accurate. The main idea of the novel is present in the song, but the details about the tragedy of Romeo and his love Juliet are incorrect.

The truth is revealed; the songs don’t always tell the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet the way it actually happened. Although the song may appear to be singing about Juliet and her love Romeo, it isn’t singing about the characters in the novel. They are characters of their own with their own individual stories, not the story Romeo and Juliet.

Music Is the Answer

Article posted May 4, 2012 at 04:44 PM GMT0 • comment (2) • Reads 442

You are having a bad day. You trudge to your room and plop on your bed. “Nothing can make this day any better” you think to yourself. Little did you know that a CD waits to sing to you exactly what you feel, comfort you.  Now your troubles are gone.

Since there are so many genres of music, it’s easy to find a song that explains exactly how you feel. When you finally do find that song, you feel like you’re not alone, it feels as though all of your troubles are gone. One of the best things about music is that it comes in so many forms. Not only will the perfect song sing about your exact situation, but it will also express those words with background music that portrays how you feel as well.

Music helps to release emotions that tend to be bottled up. When things feel stressful or upsetting, one of the best solutions is blasting your favorite song and dancing around like nobody is watching. Sing your heart out. Music is always the answer.

Another way that music helps to release those emotions can come from the form of writing songs. Singing or playing exactly how you feel for yourself is also very stress-relieving. As a singer/ song-writer myself, I know how helpful writing songs can be for stress.

Next time you are trudging around trying to forget about the terrible day you had, I highly suggest music as an easy fix. Music really is the ultimate answer.

A March Full of Music

Article posted March 7, 2012 at 04:44 PM GMT0 • comment (6) • Reads 777

Did you know that March is music in your school month? If it isn’t already obvious, I am very musically involved. Along with listening to music, playing music, and writing poems, I like to write songs. To stay with the theme of music, my March free write is going to be one of the new songs I recently have written. This will only be the lyrics since I have problems recording to the blog.

Just Another Love Song

An Original song

That time in the woods, and you held my hand

That look in your eyes

“I hope this moment never ends”

So we raced, these essential moments fly

This song in my head that I just keep singing all the time

It’s just another love song to add to the list

So why do I keep singing it over and over and over again?

‘Cause I hope you know that I can’t get you off my mind

You’re like a melody that I keep singing all the time

It’s just another love song, and I can’t stop sing it

It’s been awhile, since you’ve came around

My lonely heart wishes you would come pick me up off the ground

I’ll wait, forever it seems till you will see

It may be over but it isn’t over for me

It’s just another love song to add to the list

So why do I keep singing it over and over and over again?

‘Cause I hope you know, that I can’t get you off my mind

You’re like a melody that I keep singing all the time

It’s just another love song, and I can’t stop singing it

You’re stuck in my head

The things that you said

They play like a melody

That just keeps getting stuck in my head

I just can’t stop singing it

It’s just another love song to add to the list

So why do I keep singing it over and over and over again?

‘Cause I hope you know, that I can’t get you off my mind

You’re like a melody that I keep singing all the time

It’s just another love song, and I can’t stop singing it

To celebrate music in your school in March, write your own song. You might be surprised with your own ability. I hope everybody has a wonderful music filled March.

A Humanist Celebration

Article posted February 15, 2012 at 04:43 PM GMT0 • comment (5) • Reads 566

Construction Theory

A humanist would celebrate the book Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver because the main character Samantha learned from her bad choices to make a good choice.

To begin, in the book, Samantha died and tried to redo her life in a way that would safe her own life. She tried many times but each time she awoke to the day starting all over again and so she made each day better by doing things differently. Eventually she made good choices which are something a humanist would like.

To further my point, a humanist would like this story because she is rewarded for good deeds. Living that day over and over again began to be a burden for Samantha. In the end, Samantha just wanted to die happy with her choices. When Samantha was killed, she was rewarded with the happiness of the choices she had made that day and no longer having to live that day over. This concept of reward is something a humanist would like also.

In conclusion, a humanist would celebrate the book Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver because she makes goad choices and because she was rewarded for those choices.

The Language of Music

February Free Write

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow once said that “Music is the universal language of mankind.” All around the world music is played. Some places play different type of music than others and some places play different instruments than other, but in the end a C chord is a C chord.

Music is music. The sounds never change. Your favorite song is the same song half way around the world as it is when you listen to it yourself. Somewhere in France there could be a person listening to the same exact song you listen to everyday. Music isn’t exclusive to a certain place. Same with music notes. A C is still a C in Russia as it is in India. In that way, music doesn’t change.

Music is made all around the world. Some people make it with their voice. Some people make music with different types of drums and guitars. Different places around the world do come with different types of music though. Country music in the United States isn’t the same as it is in Latvia, Germany, or in any other country. The same with other genres of music like rock, pop, and rap. If you want a true example of this listen to a modern day country song and then listen to a song of the same genre but by an artist from another country. Chances are that they won’t sound the same.

Even though the sounds may be different in some country, a specific song never changes and neither do specific notes. In conclusion, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow is right when he says that “Music is the universal language of mankind” because it is used and understood all around the world.

November Free Write (better last than never)

Have you ever seen the show Glee? I haven't, but I am in a Glee club at my school that is run by Danielle. Our performance will be this Sat. and I am excited for it. Wouldn't you be excited?

I have been singing in front of a lot of people for years. I have become used to performing and I find it very enjoyable. I can't wait to sing in front of all of the people who come to our performance. I sing one solo song, one duet, and I have several solos in a few group numbers.

We practice non-stop at glee practice. Since it is our last week for practice, we go through songs faster than a cheetah can run. Everybody is all over the place preparing everything for this Saturday. I can't wait.

I may not watch the show, but i do enjoy being a part of a glee club. Hopefully it all goes very well. Glee is me? :)

Father and Son

Article posted January 20, 2012 at 04:28 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 201

Allyssa

Miss Transue

English

10 January 2012

                                                                   Father and Son

Would age difference affect the relationship between you and your parents? Do you and your parents talk to each other? The father and son relationship has always been a tough one, but Will and Charles Halloway’s relationship was not normal. In the book Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury, Will and his father’s relationship changed dramatically because of the carnival.

Before the carnival arrived in town, Will and his father barely talked. In the beginning of the book, Will and his father had a poor relationship. In the book it says Will wanted to say “what did you think of the handbill” to his dad, but he didn’t because him and his father rarely talked at the time (Bradbury 36). Another example of Charles and Will not being able to talk to each other like father and son should is when Will was out late and instead of Charles giving him a lecture about his behaviors he simply says “be careful” and walks away (Bradbury 91). Lastly, before the carnival arrived, when Jim and Will entered the library it says that “dad always seemed stunned when Will rose up before him…and one had grown old while the other stayed young, and this fact stood between” meaning that Will and Charles didn’t encounter each other often (Bradbury 14). Some people may that this is normal for a father and his son to not talk, but even Charles wanted to run with the boys. It says on page 15 that “Charles Halloway suppressed a sudden urge to run with them make the pack” which shows that Charles wanted to run around with his son (Bradbury 15).

When the carnival arrived, Will and Charles’s relationship became better, but still not as great as when they were actually fighting against the carnival. Charles started to be open with Will. He says to him “you know what I hate most of all, Will? Not being able to run anymore, like you” (Bradbury 130). In return, Will also is more open with his father. He says to him “in a couple days, dad, I’ll tell you everything. I swear” (Bradbury 132). Will also says, “You’ve told me more, tonight, than I’ve told you…” (Bradbury 136). Although it seems like this is the best their relationship gets, Will already said he would be more open later when he said he would tell his father everything later (Bradbury 132).

While fighting the carnival, Will and his father’s relationship improved the most. Now, Will and Charles can have deep conversations with each other. Jim, Will, and Charles have a deep conversation in chapters 38-40 about the carnival and its purpose. In chapters 49-53 they also fight the carnival side by side working together to defeat the carnival. Finally, the last sign of Will and Charles improved relationship is that Jim, Will, and Charles all run home side by side like Charles said he wanted to in the beginning of the book (Bradbury 288). It may seem that their relationship is no better than it was before they began fighting against the carnival, but Will and Charles started working together and started having deeper conversations after they started fighting against the carnival together.

As you can see, Will and Charles Halloway’s relationship improved a lot since the carnival arrived and when they fought against it. This is proved because before the carnival arrived they didn’t talk. When the carnival arrived unlike before, they attempted to be closer to each other. Finally, when they fought against the carnival they became the closest they have ever been. With the carnival and time Charles and Will’s relationship changed a lot.

Life Without Music Would Bb

Article posted January 4, 2012 at 06:00 PM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 756

December Freewrite (better late than never? :) )

Since I was little I loved music. When you think about the bigger picture, its easy to see why people love music.

Music comes in all different shapes and sizes. There are so many genres of music that everybody should be able to find a genre they like. From country to hip hop to jazz there are so many types of music.

Music says things that words can't. If a picture says a thousand words than music paints a picture. Music doesn't just express words but emotions as well. Anything can be expressed by music.

Finally, there are many ways to create music. From guitars to bongos to flutes there are so many instuments to play music with. If you don't have an instrument, the best instrument of all is your voice. No matter who you are you can create music.

Those are just some of the many reasons that music is so enjoyable.

Third Time’s The Charm

3rd person omniscient

One day, Shanice and Brynn met a Glee pony at the 7-11. Since Shanice loves ponies and since Brynn obsesses over Glee, they fell off the rainbow because they had a spaz attack. Fortunately they landed on the shore of New Jersey. They walked the board walk and bought ice cream when Shanice found Twilight Sparkle sitting all alone. It turns out that it was just a hobo, so Shanice said, “I miss my pony…”

To Brynn this meant little because the only thing she was concentrated on was a picture of Kurt Hummel that she could win if she could just throw a football. Brynn knows she can’t throw a football but she ran over to the stand and tried anyway. She screamed of joy when she succeeded! She yelled, “Yippee! Kurt!”

Shanice and Brynn walked home in silence because Brynn was hypnotized by her love and Shanice was depressed because she misses her pony.

Poems. They are one way to express your inner thoughts. They are also my favorite way to express my thoughts. For my October free write I wrote a poem.

As I Fall Asleep

An original poem

I close my eyes, I fall asleep, I see his face, I start to freak

I don’t know why, I ask what for, I wake up, and close the door

He haunts me by day, he haunts me by night, his amazing face, his glorious eyes

He grabs my shoulder, shakes me awake, calls me beautiful, these emotions I can’t take

One is on one side, the other another, my heart breaks, I hide under the covers

But still it gets me, it comes once more, all the memories, coming through that door

His dark brown eyes, his angelic voice, his angry expression, his emotions of choice

He won’t forgive, he won’t forget, so I close that door, and start to fret

He says it’s ok, I know it’s not right, I keep that door closed, to avoid the fight

But it flies open, his eyes opened wide, he doesn’t understand, I’m ok for this night

Don’t let go, it will go away, keep up hope, I promise one day

And the days go on, and the days repeat, my eyes water, but my heart still beats

He asks why, but I don’t speak, he doesn’t buy it, so I stare at my feet

So it hides in my heart, it hides in my soul, that love of my life, and his heart of gold

But then I close my eyes, I fall asleep, I see his face, I start to freak

Pay Attention to Me!!!!!

Pay Attention to Me!

Crowded. Noisy. Boisterous. These are words that describe the average hectic city. I personally dislike cities. I will most definitely raise a family in a rural area because of the beautiful surroundings, small towns, and uncrowded roads.

What would this world be like if we never told on our friends? Would you, your friend, or anybody else be safe? Would you feel guilt if something bad happened because you didn’t tell on them? There are times when we have to tell on our friends for the safety of ourselves and others. It is appropriate to tell on a friend when they threaten themselves, threaten others, or do something illegal.

Theme of The Djinn Who Lives Between Night and Day

Article posted October 5, 2011 at 04:43 PM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 184

The theme of the short story "The Djinn Who Lives Between Night and Day" is that a glimpse of hope is better than the sorrow of losing someone you love. In the story the Djinns fool the mother then the husband of the mother into believing their loved ones are still alive. Even though they won't be allowed to see them ever again, the mother and husband set off into the direction they were told believing that their loved ones are alive. This applies to real life as well as this story. The hope of your loved ones living is a lot better than the sorrow of knowing they are gone. In real life, people would rather have hope, but never see them again than know they are gone. Because it applies to both the story and real life, hope is better than the sorrow of knowing they are gone must be the theme of “The Djinn Who Lives Between Night and Day”.

Do you have a song that just gets stuck in your head?

Article posted September 21, 2011 at 05:30 PM GMT0 • comment (6) • Reads 1402

I love this song. It’s stuck in my head and I can’t stop humming it.

You, got me caught in all this mess.

I guess, we can blame it on the rain.

My pain is knowing I can’t have you,

I can’t have you.

Tell me does she look at you the way I do,

Try to understand the words you say,

and the way you move.

Does she get the same big rush,

When you go in for a hug and your cheeks brush?

Tell me am I crazy, or is this more than a crush?

I catch my breath,

The one you took the moment you entered the room.

My heart it breaks at the thought of her holding you.

Does she look at you the way I do,

Try to understand the words you say,

and the way you move.

Does she get the same big rush,

When you go in for a hug and your cheeks brush?

Tell me am I crazy, or is this more than a crush?

(Is it more than a crush?)

Maybe I’m alone in this,

But I find peace in solitude knowing,

If I had but just one kiss this whole room,

Would be glowing.

We’d be glowing,

We’d be glowing.

Does she, tell me, does she look at you the way I do,

Try to understand the words you say,

and the way you move.

Does she get the same big rush,

When you go in for a hug and your cheeks brush?

Tell me am I crazy, or is this more than a crush?

(More than a crush)

Does she, tell me, does she look at you the way I do,

Try to understand the words you say,

and the way you move.

Does she get the same big rush,

When you go in for a hug and your cheeks brush?

Tell me am I crazy, or is this more than a crush?

Tell me doe she look at you the way I do,

Try and understand the words you say,

and the way you move.

Does she get the same big rush,

When you go in for a hug and your cheeks brush?

Tell me am I crazy, or is this more than a crush? ~Blame it on the Rain, He is We

I love this song for several reasons. First, it’s relatable. Most people can relate to this song and the emotions this song portrays. I know I can. I can remember having a crush of my own and feeling that jealousy, haven’t you? Second, the song is catchy. Once you start singing it you can’t stop! If you are as big of a fan of music as I am then you agree that this song stands out from the crowd. If someone were to randomly start singing this song, I have no doubt that I would immediately know that it’s “Blame it on the Rain” by He is We. Lastly, it’s a kind of song that has no distinct genre. I like to listen to rock and country music, but sometimes I can’t choose which one I rather listen to. This song is the answer to my problem. It’s that anytime song, the balance to my music, the compromise. There is never a bad time to listen to this song. Those are the reason that I absolutely positively love the song “Blame it on the Rain” by He is We.

A Representation of Me

Hi! I'm Allyssa and for English I had to decorate my English binder with things that represent me. I also had to use a quote. For my quote I chose a line from a song I am writing. My quote is "Get up, be strong, and smile through this day" I chose this quote because when things are bad its best to get up and smile anyway.

My first picture was of music notes because I love music. I also love to write music as well.

The second picture is supposed to be of something that represents your personality. For that picture I chose to use a paint brush because I am creative.

My third picture is of the book FreeFall by Mindi Scott. I chose this book as my positive reading experience because it was one of the few books I like to read. It is about a boy overcoming obstacles in his life. I recommend this book to anybody in search of a good book to read.

Lastly, I put a picture of two of my dogs on my binder. I chose these pictures for the anything I want picture because I love my pets.

Those are the pictures and quote I chose to put on my binder to represent me!

Any questions?
