Dear freshmen,
I have some advice for you all. If you follow what I say, I can guarantee that you’ll pass. First off, do all the work. Don’t just not do it, or “forget” to do it. Especially in English, blogs hurt your grade, more than you’ll realize; so just do them. They’re not even that hard. This isn’t eighth grade anymore kiddos’. The teachers aren’t going to be spoon feeding you. You pass or fail on your own merits, and you can’t blame anyone but yourself if you have to take summer school, or stay in ninth grade.
Second off, this might not affect your grades as much, but it’s still important. Try to make it to all your classes. Being late once or twice is understandable, but when it comes to your being late once or twice every day. That’s just unacceptable and annoying to your teachers. I was late just about every day to Algebra, and right now I’m failing that class, and getting Asd every Tuesday or Thursday is pretty annoying, especially when you already have something planned.
My third and final piece of advice is, try not to miss so much school. If you miss school, you miss that lesson is class that day. Then you won’t understand what you’re doing, especially in Algebra or Pre- Algebra. I missed a bunch of days, and I was failing most of the year; so just do your work, be on time, and don’t miss school. It’s not that hard, trust me. You don’t want to fail and watch all of your friends go on to tenth grade while you’re stuck with the next year's freshmen.
Sincerely,
Shane Kelder

I can still remember
The words and what they meant
As we etched them with our fingers
In years of wet cement
The days blurred into each other
Though everything seemed clear
We cruised along at half speed
But then we shifted gears
We ran like vampires from a thousand burning suns
But even then we should have stayed
But we ran away
Now all my friends are gone
Maybe we've outgrown all the things that we once loved
Runaway
But what are we running from?
A show of hands from those in this audience of one
Where have they gone?
Identities assume us
As nine and five add up
Synchronizing watches
To the seconds that we lost
I looked up and saw you
I know that you saw me
We froze but for a moment
In empathy
I brought down the sky for you but all you did was shrug
You gave my emptiness a name
But you ran away
Now all my friends are gone
Maybe we've outgrown all the things that we once loved
Runaway
But what are we running from?
A show of hands from those in this audience of one
Where have they gone?
We're all ok, until the day we're not
The surface shines, while the inside rots
We raced the sunset and we almost won
We slammed the brakes, but the wheels went on
We ran away
Now all my friends are gone
Maybe we've outgrown all the things that we once loved
Runaway
But what are we running from?
A show of hands from those in this audience of one
Where have they gone?
This song is called "Audience of One" by Rise Against. Like most songs, this one is open to much interpretation. I’m going to explain to you what story, or message I get from this one. Now from what I can get from it, this song is about growing up, and apart from your friends. An example of this is the one line from the song is,”now all my friends are gone. Maybe we've outgrown all the things that we once loved”. It’s saying that he’s growing up, and all of his friends have left.
You could also get the message that they’re running away from everything. The one line in the song says that “Runaway, but what are we running from?” Maybe they’re running from problems, or avoiding them? Another line is “We ran away!” That obviously means that they’re running away from something.
The third and final message I got from this song is that just because someone or something appears happy and content, does not always mean that they are. I found this in the line “we’re all ok, until the day we're not. The surface shines, while the inside rots.” The part that says “The surface shines, while the inside rots.” Could mean that the appearance of a person looks happy and such, but in all actuality they are really sad.
Those are the messages I get from the song "Audience of One" by Rise Against. They are growing up and leaving your friends behind, running away from your problems, and just because someone looks happy doesn’t mean they are.

Now most of you probably knew that Albert Einstien was greatest scientist of the 20th century but did you know that on March 20, 1916 Einstein published his theory of relativity.I think this would be relevant to those who don’t really know much about this great scientist.
Albert Einstein was born at Ulm, Wurttemberg Germany March 14th 1879. Not only is this the month he published his theory of relativity, it’s also the month of his birth! Anyways, Einstein was not a very impressing child; one of his teachers even went and said that he wouldn’t amount to anything. Can you believe he said that Einstein not amount to anything? He went on to graduate from Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich to be trained as a teacher in physics and mathematics.
To get to the main point of this free write, Einstein became one of the most renowned scientists in the history of science. He destroyed Newtonian physics. After he published his theories of relativity, he became an overnight worldwide sensation. He won the Nobel Prize for physics. His teacher in school was wrong! He became more than that teacher would ever have dreamed of.
In conclusion, Albert Einstein was one of the most intellectual men who ever walked the earth. I read some where he is the father of modern physics. If that doesn’t prove his mean school teacher wrong, I don’t know what will.

Now most people will probably be writing about how Valentine’s Day is about love and stuff, I’m not going to write about that. I’m going to write about how it doesn’t seem like anybody thinks about the people who can’t celebrate Valentine’s Day, mainly the men and women who are married to people in the Military. Like how those people won’t be able to see their loved ones on this holiday, or maybe they won’t ever be able to celebrate it again with them, because they’re dead.
How do you think those people feel when they’re out and about, and they see these young or even old couples being all romantic and stuff? Not that I have an actual problem with being romantic, I have a girlfriend. I just get tired of nobody thinking of all the people who can’t celebrate Valentine’s Day.
If it was me I’d have gotten tired of it years ago, and yelled at some of the young couples who are out on Valentine’s Day. As I said before, I’m not criticizing Valentine’s Day. I’m just trying to get the word out that maybe next time you’re hugging your girlfriend or wife. Remember those many people who can’t celebrate being with a loved one this Valentine’s Day, because it must hurt them dearly to see other people having fun. So take a moment to think about those lost this Valentine’s Day.

The beginning of the End.
It was the beginning of the end; everyone knew it was true. The sky was alight with fire, the moon was pink, and bullets were flying everywhere. Tomas began his journey with one intention, to escape this madness that was enveloping him. So one day he just got up, packed a few things in his bag, and took off into the night. The end began some time later...
The dream or prophecy began like this; He was walking along some kind of path, but he couldn’t see the path, As he was walking he could hear people whispering, it wasn’t just one person either, it sounded like a whole crowd of people just whispering to each other, so he kept walking urged on by this crowd of people he could not see. He eventually got to some sort of village. He walked into the village, but there was no one, all the doors were open, and most of the windows were smashed in. So he began to walk out of the town, and a bright light appeared before him and spoke.
“Tomas!” He exclaimed, “Where do you think you are going?”
Tomas replied to the Light, “Far away from here, that’s where I’m going.”
The Light laughed at him, he said to Tomas,” Where do you think you’re going to go my boy? You’re dreaming! You could walk for a century and not get anywhere.” Tomas thought to himself, I should’ve known I was dreaming, why didn’t I realize this when I was walking on that invisible path? The light interrupted his thoughts and spoke to him once more,” Now Tomas, I need your help, when you wake up boy. I need you to walk to the nearest town, and ask for a man named Lawrence. He will guide you to the elders…
To be continued…

Veterans Day
In 1918, on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day in the eleventh month, the world rejoiced and celebrated. After four years of war, a treaty was signed. The "war to end all wars" was over. November 11, 1919 was set aside as Armistice Day in the United States, to remember the sacrifices that men and women made during World War I in order to ensure peace. But Americans realized that the previous war would not be the last one.
World War II began the following year and nations big and small again participated in a bloody struggle. After the Second World War, Armistice Day continued to be observed on November 11.In 1953 townspeople in Emporia, Kansas called the holiday Veterans' Day in gratitude to the veterans in their town. Soon after, Congress passed a bill introduced by a Kansas congressman renaming the federal holiday to Veterans' Day. In 1971 President Nixon declared it a federal holiday on the second Monday in November. Americans still give thanks for peace on Veterans' Day. There are ceremonies and speeches and at 11:00 in the morning, most Americans observe a moment of silence, remembering those who fought for peace.

Third times the charm!
By Shane kelder
Third person omniscient:
Once upon a time, there were three guys and a talking clam named Bob, the names of the three guys was Caleb, Shane, and Kyler. Now the friends and their pet clam were going to see their favorite band Asking Alexandria in Globestown. They were driving along when Bob the clam said “Oh my gosh, look guys a flying turtle.” Shane, Caleb, and Kyler all thought that the clam was being crazy, but they looked anyways.
As they were looking for the flying turtle, Bob the clam thought to himself, “What idiots they are for believing me! Don’t they realize I was only kidding?” As Bob the clam was deep in thought, the three guys talked it over and they decided to throw Bob out of their speeding car. So as Caleb was driving, and Shane and Kyler were in the back seat with Bob, Shane and Kyler grabbed Bob; rolled down the window, and threw him into the open highway.
While they were driving away Kyler looked back with a tear in his eye and thought to himself, “You were a great pet Bob, I’ll always love you.” Let’s just say, bob made the fall into the highway but then was stunned from the fall and didn’t realize the huge 18 wheeler coming his way. That is what Bob died from.

Shane on the other hand thought to himself “Why would Bob trick us like that? Maybe we shouldn’t take him to the concert with us today.”
So as Bob was in the back seat not paying attention, Shane told Caleb and Kyler that they should help him get back at Bob for playing a trick like that on them. Then as Caleb was driving, Shane and Kyler grabbed Bob; rolled down the window, and threw him into the open highway.
While they were driving away Shane noticed that Kyler had a tear in his eye and decided to let him have some time to get over Bob. Now let’s just say that Bob the fall into the highway, but was stunned from the impact and he didn’t realize the huge 18 wheeler coming his way. That is what Bob died from.

Mr. Woolcock
Science
9 10/17/2011
Mousetrap Car project Have you ever felt the tension of watching the car you bet on, go down the track? Well in the Mousetrap car project we did for science, my partners and I felt just that. Building this car was quite an experience, there was a decent design, there was good and bad parts in the final result though, and through all this I think my partners and I deserve a pretty good grade.
The final design of our car was not very different from the original design. We still had four wheels, we still rounded the front edge of the car. The only differences was that we added an extender arm to our final design, so that it would travel farther, we also took a wire hanger and bent it as to create a front bumper; so the car would bounce off the corner of the track. The car was still the same length, and we still used cds for the wheels. So all in all the final product was rather similar to the prototype. In actuality there were many good things, and many design flaws.
The good things is that it had much power behind it so that it would go over the speed bumps, but the bad thing about that is that when it hit the corner it stopped dead. But even with its flaws we painted our car so it looked awesome! If I had to go ack and do somthing different it would have to be that wire bumper we glued to the front of it, because that was what was stopping it from going around the corner. I also would have put some sort of bumper on it. But I still thought our car was performed well. If I had to give my car a grade it would have to be at least a 90%, because it did run, and it had all the requirements. The only reason that we didn't get a 100% was because our car couldn't go around the corner, which was actually dissapointing. But I think that a 90% is a fair grad.
So all in all my groups car was pretty good, and at the end of that race the tension lifted

The theme for "The Djinn Who Lives Between Night and Day" would be not to always believe what people tell you.
It applies to the story because Al-faq the djinn went to the husband and said to him "Get up," said Al-faq. "Go out. Walk south. Walk until you can go no farther. I will give you a sign that your wife and children have returned to life, but you must stay there by the sea, alone, with nothing. You must never speak again. You must never seek the ones you love, for if you find one, then all eight must die." And the man believed him! He ended up walking all the way to the sea.
This theme also applies to real life because you shouldn't believe everything that you hear, for example if someone walked up to you and said that there was no school tomorrow, and if they were lying then you would miss school and get into trouble! So you see how this theme relates to life.
