Well, as I sit at home and reflect on the school year, I have to say it's been an amazing year. I was a lucky teacher to have such a great bunch of kids. Be safe, play as much as you can, and have an awesome summer! See you in September!

I can use the French vocabulary I have learned to make a short conversation.
Criteria:
-At least 30 seconds long
-No English, only French
-Must make sense
-Make it as clear as possible
-Loud voice and eye contact
-Everyone in the group must have a speaking part

Learning Intention:
I can create a visual that describes the basic structure of the human body systems and detail how they are connected to each other.
Criteria:
•I have displayed and described the basic structure of the respiratory, digestive, circulatory, skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems on my presentation.
•I have listed how each system is connected to the other systems in the human body.
Looking Back
In this unit, you have learned:
How your digestive system processes food to make nutrients for your cells.
How your respiratory system takes in oxygen for your cells.
How you circulatory system transports nutrients and oxygen throughout your body.

Questions are from the first day we started learning about the human body.
Digestive system
1. How much food can the average person consume

Designing a Compound Machine
In this unit, you have learned how forces affect the way that objects move, that there are six simple machines, and that simple machines can be combined to form compound machines. It is now your job to take what you have learned and create a compound machine!
Learning Intention:
I can show my understanding of simple and compound machines by creating and describing my own compound machine.
Criteria for Success:
•I have designed and built/drawn a compound machine that will make an everyday household task easier.
•I have accurately identified two or more simple machines.
•I have described why each simple machine would make the task easier.
•I have used scientific words from chapters 1-3 that explain my understanding.
•I have described why my compound machine would make the job easier.

Hi there,
The final term of Grade 5 is underway. It's been a fantastic year so far but we aren't finished yet!
We are working on finishing off simple and compound machines in science then will begin a unit on the human body. My goals for math include finishing 3 digit by 1 digit division, then get a handle on fractions and finally segue into decimals and measurement. I also wish to focus on healthy living and lifestyle choices in health and career education. We will continue classroom discussions that revolve around current events and social studies. In addition, we will continue to blend all subjects into language arts.
Report cards as it stands now, will be issued towards the end of the year. As always, please feel free to address any concerns with me via email lschade@sd57.bc.ca or by calling the school.

Here is the list of questions that you and your classmates came up with. I am impressed with the quality of the questions in this list. It shows that you really took an honest look at the major topics covered in this forces chapter. You really showed ownership of your learning. Please remember to study the concepts and ideas of the questions and try not to memorize the answers! If you understand the concepts, the answers will be easy-shmeezy :)
Question: Explain what happens when one force is greater than another force.
Question: Give two examples of what surface texture can do to an object.
Question: There is a sled sitting at the top of a hill. What forces are acting on this sled to keep it from moving? How could the forces change? What would happen if they did?
Question: Use drawings, words, and label a diagram to show how surface texture and slope can affect the amount of force needed to ride a bike. Give two different examples.
Question: What is friction? Name three things that can happen when two surfaces rub together.

Pictured above are my fantastic (yet at times troublesome) chocolate labs. Their names are Nash and Xiao Guai. Xiao Guai actually translates from Chinese to English, meaning "good boy." Nash is named after my personal hero, Steve Nash.
