In this science unit we have been learning about cells and their functions. My favorite part in this unit was when we looked at cells under the microscope. I found it very cool seeing such small organisms move under the microscope but not seeing them with your plain eye. I also found it interesting about how things change over time. We did an experiment and we kept track of how much bigger or smaller it grew. Lastly the worst part of this is the test. I’m ok at science but there is a lot of vocabulary in this unit. Over all we have a lot of experiments and we used microscopes.

The Gym

Article posted February 15, 2012 at 10:56 PM GMT • comment • Reads 755

Through the brown door,

At my cool, huge school,

Above nothing,

Below nothing,

Beside the noisy blue band hallway,

Across from the noisy drama room,

Near the smelly lunch room,

With the fun gym teachers,

During the day,

With many kids,

Of green, purple and smelly clothes,

Until the very end,

Of the day,

With all the kids,

Between the walls.

Books!

Article posted February 7, 2012 at 03:09 AM GMT • comment • Reads 900

Right now I am reading a book called The Yanti by: Christopher Pike.  I am enjoying this book; it is one in the many books of the series. The character’s name is Ali and she has two best friends Steve and Cindy. In this book Ali is learning this about herself that she never knew. Some things are beyond her wildest imagination.  During this book Ali find out that people in another dimension are plotting to kill the people on earth. Ali and her friends have to save it.  To make it even harder, the person on the bad side is her very own sister.

My Favorite Sport

There are many cool sports in the world. What is your favorite? My favorite sport is softball. I have been playing it for so long. Before I played softball, I played baseball. I play pitcher and first base. I started pitching fast pitch about five years ago. I did not like pitching as much until I learned how to and now it’s really fun! I play first base mostly because I’m left handed. I have played first for baseball and softball. I have a lot of sports I like but softball would have to be my favorite.

Poetic Effects

Article posted January 26, 2012 at 01:58 AM GMT • comment • Reads 609

There are a few tools poets use to create an effect. One is tone, the words that you use. Some words can make you happy while others can show anger. Another tool is what kind of rhythm they make. For example if all the lines rhyme or just some. One last thing is sentence length. The longer the lines the more dramatic it seems. The shorter the lines the happier it seems. Those are just some of the many tools poets use. In "The Charge of the Light Brigade," Tennyson had ends of lines rhyming he had a wide range of vocab.

My Pick

Article posted January 19, 2012 at 12:35 AM GMT • comment • Reads 832

“You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give. Kahlil Gibran. I think it means that if you give yourself you are giving happiness to someone in need but you also are giving help when you give yourself. When you give a gift you give a little but someone would rather have a friend than a present.  I could apply it in my own life by helping out at charity events or helping people in need. Helping could make a positive change in someone’s attitude because helping out you could feed them or help give shelter and they would be happier. This could impact the world by people could be happier or there could be more things done for the needy. People could also become happier.

2012 Goals

Article posted January 10, 2012 at 02:43 AM GMT • comment • Reads 908

I came up with a few 2012 goals. My first goal is to do better on my fitness testing. I want to improve my scores from last year. I improved my mile run by 30 seconds about and want to improve it more. I also want to get good scores on the rest of my tests and try to beat them at the end of the year. Another one of my goals is to become a better reader and writer. I can become a better reader just by reading more books. I also can become a better writer by writing more than I do now. My last goal is to do get the gold medal at the end of the year. I already did two quarters with 4.0 and I want to do the second half of the year just as strong.

Wiki Reflection

Article posted December 17, 2011 at 11:45 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1062

I think that the wiki went good.  We got all the requirements done.  Each person in my group contributed to it.  It was a little hard working in a group this way because when people who not go on it would get frustrating. I think that our communication worked great because we all answered and got our parts done. I think that our wiki page went the best. We got our information and pictures of Lord Alfred Tennyson very quickly.  We could have had better communication on our video. Something that you could change for next year would be to let us pick our authors. I think it would be more fun if we learned about someone we wanted to.

Greece! It

Article posted December 9, 2011 at 11:14 PM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 1415

There are a few things that I learned about Greece. One is that in ancient times there was no country Greece, there was communities scattered across land near the Mediterranean Sea. The Greeks also defeated the greatest empire in the world. The Greeks also were influenced by the Minoans. One last thing that I learned is my city-state Corinth was one of the richest in Greece.

Right now we are doing a simulation. We were broken up into city-states. My city-state is Corinth. So far we have made a logo, chant and a handshake. The people in my group are Kade, Ella, Devin and me.  We keep track of points. The biggest part of our points is our fates. You can be great through the class but if your fates choose something bad to happen you can’t help it.  The scores go up and down through every class.

Sheltie

Article posted December 2, 2011 at 02:11 AM GMT • comment (2) • Reads 1416

Many people in the world have dogs, millions. You know the saying “man’s best friend." Yes, I'm one of the millions. I own a Shetland sheepdog, a sheltie. I wondered where they really originated, and just basic facts about them. I found out that they originated on the island of Shetland. Shetland is located off the coast of Scotland. In the 18th century Shetland sheepdog’s guarded sheep. One fact I found was Shetland sheepdog females grow for about 12-15 inches. Also sheltie’s are short dogs that have a soft, double layered coat that could have the colors black, sable, blue merel, white and tan. My dog molly is white and sable. I found this site and the information very interesting.
