Seventh Grade

Article posted May 16, 2012 at 06:43 PM GMT • comment • Reads 820

Seventh grade was a lot of fun! I thought that this was the best year so far. I was happy we could participate in after school sports now. I thought I was successful in my grades and sports. I learned that I’m good at math and science. I also learned that I need to work harder at L.A. and Humanities. I probably would have been more organized. I found my papers but, it was a lot harder than it should have been. In eighth grade I want to keep doing the things I have been in seventh grade. For the next year’s seventh graders I would say to turn in all your work on time, because after a while it starts building up and it’s hard to get back on track. Also I think that you should do all your blogs, they are worth a lot of points. Good Luck next years seventh graders!

Internation Towne!

Article posted May 10, 2012 at 06:38 PM GMT • comment • Reads 489

I think that International Towne was very fun. We learned a lot. One thing was different currencies can have different amounts of money but they all could be equal. You could have 10 PacAsia notes and 20 AmeriLat notes but they are equal. One thing that I would change is our time. We need a longer break time, but the actual work time was good. One other thing that I would change would be the amount of people per job. For example I was a Finance Minister. When people would take their breaks other people would have to take over even if they didn’t know the jobs. I had to start selling stuff, even though that wasn’t my job, so that would be the other thing that I would change. My favorite part was having our breaks and getting our money. It was fun being able to bring things back from International town. I think that International Towne was a lot of fun.

World History Fair

Article posted May 2, 2012 at 08:49 PM GMT • comment • Reads 580

For my project my guiding question was: Why was the building of the temple of Artemis important to the Greeks. The most interesting part about the temple was that it was a wonder of the world. Also it was so important to the Greeks that every time something happened to it, it was rebuilt. The temple of Artemis was built for the goddess Artemis. It was built in Ephesus. Today people visit the site where there are some ruins. Also there are some ruins in museums. Learning about this today shows how people acted back then compared to now.

During the world history fair I learned a lot of things. One thing I learned was about the Trojan horse and the Trojan War. I learned that the Trojans made a horse and presented it as a gift to their enemies. It was so the soldiers could sneak in to fight. I also learned a little about Pantheon. It was a very big building. The Romans built it and when they did they made it in a dome shape with a hole in the roof. So that made it energy conservative. I learned a lot at the world history fair, this is just some!

Seedfolks

Article posted May 1, 2012 at 10:18 PM GMT • comment • Reads 543

I think that Seedfolks is ok. I find the format a little weird. I feel like you just start getting what their explaining and then it’s a new person.  I think this book is about people who are making gardens in one big plot. A little girl started the whole garden with just a couple seeds. The character that I dislike is Wendell.  I dislike him because he just seems lazy and kind of boring. This week I found the activities very fun.  One of my favorite ones was planting the tomatoes. I can’t wait to see which one grows faster. I also thought making the flowers were fun! These were my favorites because they were more hands on. Even though these were my favorite I enjoyed them all.

For my humanities project I am doing the Temple of Artemis. Finding my research went very smooth. There was a lot more to the temple of Artemis than I thought! My final project is coming along great! For my 3D project I am doing a Papier Mache temple. I’m almost ready for May 1st. At first I thought it would be too much to handle but it has been going good so far! I can’t wait to see other people’s projects.

We are the Patriots!  We got our uniforms already and I’m #6. I’m playing against one of my friends but, we’ll have fun.  I like my new coach, he is very nice. I just can’t wait till we start games. I also started volleyball. My coach is so nice. Her sister is on the team, and we work together good. I like the rest of my team too. I can’t wait till my next practices!

Chicken Wings

Article posted April 2, 2012 at 11:08 PM GMT • comment • Reads 684

We were dissecting chicken wings to learn about how things work, like tendons and ligaments. A chicken wing is like us, some of the things work the same way. I thought at first it seemed a little gross but then after I started that wasn’t so bad. It was cool that you could make the chicken wing move by pulling one part of it. I think it was worthwhile. You can actually see what you are learning in books in a dissection. I learned a lot in this experiment starting with how each system works. I had a lot of fun!

I Wish...

Article posted March 20, 2012 at 12:00 AM GMT • comment • Reads 590

I wish

    I was a lion

    King of the jungle

    With my loud roar

    No one would dare

    Push me around

I wish

    I was a fish

    Carefree swimming in the water

    With little fins

    That push me forward

    Through the ocean

I wish

    I was an eagle

    Soaring through the air

    Going from sea to sea

    High in the air

With no one to stop me

Ernest Green

Article posted March 14, 2012 at 10:24 PM GMT • comment • Reads 617

I thought that trying to keep the coloreds out of white schools was cruel. No one deserves that treatment. Also just because of someone’s color doesn’t mean that they should not get the same things. Truthfully I would like to thing that I would be able to have courage to continue on but, I don’t think I would have been able to do what Ernest and others did. I think that there should not be discrimination but there still is today. Some instances could be picking for a job or playing a game, picking a team mate. I think that everyone deserves the same treatment not matter what race.

Theodore Roosevelt

“Believe you can and you're halfway there.”

Theodore Roosevelt

When you’re studying for a test,

Trying your best,

Or practicing sports,

Playing on courts,

Try your best,

And you’re even closer to being above the rest,

When you’re taking a test,

Doing your very best,

Or playing sports,

Running on the courts,

If you have a great attitude,

You’ll go great latitude.

M and E

In this science unit we have been learning about cells and their functions. My favorite part in this unit was when we looked at cells under the microscope. I found it very cool seeing such small organisms move under the microscope but not seeing them with your plain eye. I also found it interesting about how things change over time. We did an experiment and we kept track of how much bigger or smaller it grew. Lastly the worst part of this is the test. I’m ok at science but there is a lot of vocabulary in this unit. Over all we have a lot of experiments and we used microscopes.

The Gym

Article posted February 15, 2012 at 10:56 PM GMT • comment • Reads 744

Through the brown door,

At my cool, huge school,

Above nothing,

Below nothing,

Beside the noisy blue band hallway,

Across from the noisy drama room,

Near the smelly lunch room,

With the fun gym teachers,

During the day,

With many kids,

Of green, purple and smelly clothes,

Until the very end,

Of the day,

With all the kids,

Between the walls.

Books!

Right now I am reading a book called The Yanti by: Christopher Pike.  I am enjoying this book; it is one in the many books of the series. The character’s name is Ali and she has two best friends Steve and Cindy. In this book Ali is learning this about herself that she never knew. Some things are beyond her wildest imagination.  During this book Ali find out that people in another dimension are plotting to kill the people on earth. Ali and her friends have to save it.  To make it even harder, the person on the bad side is her very own sister.

My Favorite Sport

Article posted February 1, 2012 at 12:25 AM GMT • comment • Reads 656

There are many cool sports in the world. What is your favorite? My favorite sport is softball. I have been playing it for so long. Before I played softball, I played baseball. I play pitcher and first base. I started pitching fast pitch about five years ago. I did not like pitching as much until I learned how to and now it’s really fun! I play first base mostly because I’m left handed. I have played first for baseball and softball. I have a lot of sports I like but softball would have to be my favorite.

Poetic Effects

Article posted January 26, 2012 at 01:58 AM GMT • comment • Reads 596

There are a few tools poets use to create an effect. One is tone, the words that you use. Some words can make you happy while others can show anger. Another tool is what kind of rhythm they make. For example if all the lines rhyme or just some. One last thing is sentence length. The longer the lines the more dramatic it seems. The shorter the lines the happier it seems. Those are just some of the many tools poets use. In "The Charge of the Light Brigade," Tennyson had ends of lines rhyming he had a wide range of vocab.

My Pick

Article posted January 19, 2012 at 12:35 AM GMT • comment • Reads 824

“You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give. Kahlil Gibran. I think it means that if you give yourself you are giving happiness to someone in need but you also are giving help when you give yourself. When you give a gift you give a little but someone would rather have a friend than a present.  I could apply it in my own life by helping out at charity events or helping people in need. Helping could make a positive change in someone’s attitude because helping out you could feed them or help give shelter and they would be happier. This could impact the world by people could be happier or there could be more things done for the needy. People could also become happier.

2012 Goals

Article posted January 10, 2012 at 02:43 AM GMT • comment • Reads 889

I came up with a few 2012 goals. My first goal is to do better on my fitness testing. I want to improve my scores from last year. I improved my mile run by 30 seconds about and want to improve it more. I also want to get good scores on the rest of my tests and try to beat them at the end of the year. Another one of my goals is to become a better reader and writer. I can become a better reader just by reading more books. I also can become a better writer by writing more than I do now. My last goal is to do get the gold medal at the end of the year. I already did two quarters with 4.0 and I want to do the second half of the year just as strong.

Wiki Reflection

Article posted December 17, 2011 at 11:45 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1040

I think that the wiki went good.  We got all the requirements done.  Each person in my group contributed to it.  It was a little hard working in a group this way because when people who not go on it would get frustrating. I think that our communication worked great because we all answered and got our parts done. I think that our wiki page went the best. We got our information and pictures of Lord Alfred Tennyson very quickly.  We could have had better communication on our video. Something that you could change for next year would be to let us pick our authors. I think it would be more fun if we learned about someone we wanted to.

Greece! It

Article posted December 9, 2011 at 11:14 PM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 1389

There are a few things that I learned about Greece. One is that in ancient times there was no country Greece, there was communities scattered across land near the Mediterranean Sea. The Greeks also defeated the greatest empire in the world. The Greeks also were influenced by the Minoans. One last thing that I learned is my city-state Corinth was one of the richest in Greece.

Right now we are doing a simulation. We were broken up into city-states. My city-state is Corinth. So far we have made a logo, chant and a handshake. The people in my group are Kade, Ella, Devin and me.  We keep track of points. The biggest part of our points is our fates. You can be great through the class but if your fates choose something bad to happen you can’t help it.  The scores go up and down through every class.

Sheltie

Article posted December 2, 2011 at 02:11 AM GMT • comment (2) • Reads 1387

Many people in the world have dogs, millions. You know the saying “man’s best friend." Yes, I'm one of the millions. I own a Shetland sheepdog, a sheltie. I wondered where they really originated, and just basic facts about them. I found out that they originated on the island of Shetland. Shetland is located off the coast of Scotland. In the 18th century Shetland sheepdog’s guarded sheep. One fact I found was Shetland sheepdog females grow for about 12-15 inches. Also sheltie’s are short dogs that have a soft, double layered coat that could have the colors black, sable, blue merel, white and tan. My dog molly is white and sable. I found this site and the information very interesting.

What I'm Thankful For!!

Article posted November 15, 2011 at 12:10 AM GMT • comment • Reads 1195

One thing that I am grateful for is my family. I have a family that supports and cares for me. They come for my sporting events and award ceremonies. If I did not have my family I do not know what I would do. Another thing that I am thankful for is my house that I live in. I sleep under my roof every night and it keeps me dry and warm. There are homeless people out in the world. They worried about where they will sleep at night, I am so thankful that I have a place to call home. One more thing that I am grateful for is my country. We are so grateful to have brave men and women that fight for our lives. We have freedom of speech and we have choices in our lives. I am thankful for many things and these are only some things I’m thankful for.

The Oblong Crate

Article posted November 11, 2011 at 10:57 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1269

The best mystery that I have read would be “ The Oblong Crate”. I like this mystery because the writer kept you guessing what was in the crate. When he came up with an explanation it seemed like it could be the answer but when it wasn’t you wanted to know what it was.

My story starter: Ahhhhh! When 13 year old Julia went into her room it had been trashed.  Her computer and television was gone! Her mom walked in and then said she would call the cops. When they arrived they asked her mom a lot of questions. It did not help them any because they found out that she had an alibi, she had been at work all day with many witnesses. They did get one clue though. There was squashed mud with a perfect boot print. The person had left in hurry not to cover up their tracks.

Blogging

I think that blogging has been fun and easy. I have had a very smooth experience. I have wrote my blog and posted it easily. I would rather type my writing than to write on paper. Also when we type we have the option to use spell check and we neat writing, so it’s readable. If we had to do this as writing we would not be able to comment on other people’s work. For example the book’s blog, we would not have been able to learn about books that we should read. Lastly when we blog we can learn things about people that we never knew!

My Weakest Paragraph

Article posted October 26, 2011 at 03:09 AM GMT • comment (2) • Reads 1719

To “always remember” is very important. If you couldn’t remember it would be very different. When you remember you can learn life lessons or learn about something fun to do. Like the saying” you live and learn”. Everyone has experiences that change their life forever.

I think this is my weakest paragraph, what do you think I could fix?

Current Event

Article posted October 22, 2011 at 05:48 AM GMT • comment • Reads 1457

I read an article about the World Series Game2. The second game was won by Texas. The first game was won by the Cardinals. This World Series is very close games. Some things that happened at the second game towards the end was the worst play for the Cardinals. The Rangers were down 1-0. There was the tying run and the go ahead runs on the bases. Pujols was a cut off and if he caught the ball he would have held the runners. Pujols is the first baseman for the Cardinals. Although he missed it and the go ahead run got on second into scoring position.Pujols is my favorite player, I think that he had a bad angle on the play, I was watching the game. I think that this World Series has been very exciting.

Uglies

Article posted October 12, 2011 at 05:43 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1642

A book that I have read recently is called Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. This book is about a girl named Tally Youngblood. In a few weeks she will turn from an ugly to a pretty. To be a pretty you get a big surgery. Tally is very excited until she meets a friend, who has the same birth date as her, her name was Shay. She met Shay in pretty town, they both snuck in. Shay thought that Tally had guts to jump off a building, with safety, and sneak into pretty town. Shay was different than other uglies though, she did not want to become a pretty. Shay told Tally a story about other friends sneaking off to never become pretties. What happens next? You would have to read the story to find out. I thought that this was a very good book.

Molly

I have a Shetland sheepdog Molly. She is such a cutie. Molly is almost ten, November 16. Molly has brown, black, white and a little bit of red fur. She has brown eyes. I love playing ball with Molly. Molly is full of energy and likes to run. Molly has basically grown up with me; there was one other dog before we had molly when I was born. Her name was Mindy. I don’t remember her that much because I was so young. Molly has moved with us from Massachusetts to Colorado. Molly loves treats and barks at the door bell. Molly protects us. Molly will chase my volleyball and then pick it up. I love my dog Molly!

Fox Run Field Trip

Article posted September 29, 2011 at 03:40 AM GMT • comment • Reads 1790

Over all on the fox run field trip I learned a lot and I had a lot of fun. and  I think that the best part of the field trip was the camouflage and seeing the pictures of animals and hunters. I learned some things and we got to play a prey and predator game. One activity that I enjoyed was the island game; we had to work together as a team to get across. We had to communicate but we also had to listen to each other. On this field trip I learned that animals have a lot of things that they need to do to survive. For example they need food, water and shelter, but they might not always get everything. I also learned that plants need to have certain things to survive other they die. I thought that the field trip was very fun.

To Ban or Not To Ban

Article posted September 29, 2011 at 03:17 AM GMT • comment • Reads 1803

I think that books should not be banned. Just because some people don’t like books, doesn’t mean that they are not good books. Freedom of speech falls into this because you are free to speak, so you should be free to read books, even if someone thinks they are not good. I think that we all have the choice to choose what we read or do not read. Books should not be banned.  You should have the choice to read what you want. You have the choice if you think it is not a good book to not read it, but no one should take away the option to read it though. I think that books should not be banned!

Abbot and Costello

Article posted September 25, 2011 at 12:39 AM GMT • comment • Reads 3295

Costello is wrong. When you multiply 7 by 4 it is 28, not 7 by 14. Costello is wrong because when dividing you can't hold a number. Also when he added 14 he counted the one's place correct but not the ten's place correct. Another set of numbers you could use it 8x15=48. You could find this out very easily.

The problem would be set up like this: XY+X=Z

X= the multiplier

Y= the ones digit

X and Y have to be one of the digits 1-9.

For Example:

X=8

Y=5

8x5+8=48

8x15=48

My Stitches

Article posted September 14, 2011 at 10:53 PM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 1658

My scariest thing that happened was over this past summer. I went bike riding and crashed. It was on pavement. I was going too fast and slipped. I had a helmet on but it hurt. I got scrapes on my knees and hand, and a gash on my chin. When my parents looked at the cut they knew I needed stitches. We went to an Urgent Care place and had to wait. When the doctor came he first gave me numbing medicine, and then I got stitches. This happened in June, and it just so happened I got my stitches taken out on my birthday! That was the scariest thing that happened to me.

Rachel's Legacy

Article posted September 7, 2011 at 03:08 AM GMT • comment • Reads 1661

I think that the Rachel’s Challenge assembly was very inspiring. I think that it is worthwhile presentation that reminds you, life is short so make the best of every minute you got. I think it is effective because the story grasps your attention and makes you want to listen. I took away from the experience that you never know what day will be your last or someone else’s last. So treat everyday like it’s your last. I will do something different; treat everyone with kindness, even on a bad day because you never know what minute will be your last minute.
